    Default help with tight tables.

Hi all i just started playing poker seriously a month ago and just took part in a HE NL competition last night.

during the course of the tourney i found a recurring problem i hope u guys can help me with. usually when i become chip leader on a table i find that people tend to play really tight against me and i find it hard to kick people off the table. usually what i do when the flop brings me something good is to check and then try to suck em in on the turn or river. however even then most people just fold.

whats your strategy in sucking people into the pot when u know u r holding the nuts?

    thanks.

in a tighter group of players, i've yet to really find anything that sucks those players into a hand, unless they have strong hand. they'll only play the premium hands. if it's a ring table, i move.

that said, in a tourney situation you can't move, so, if you can't get them into hand, start stealing the blinds. at the higher levels, that can add up, and really eat away at their stacks. at least if they come out betting, you know to be careful.

    good cards!

well depending on how risky you want to be Either keep playing your game and try to crack them OR you could always advertise a hand or two..

"Advertising is playing a poor hand to give yourself a bad table image so that you can cash in on it later."

Play a weak dominated hand out of position to the river so you have to show it. Show them a hand like K8o or Q9o or A7o. Something that an amature/fish would play.

This may lossen up your table image and in turn bring in more callers.

I've only done this twice with mixed results. The first time it was too late in the tourney and I put out a few too many chips. I believe this hurt me more than it helped. Lesson learned.
The second time it didn't seem to have an effect on the table.

    DISCLAIMER!!!

Giving away chips is a bad idea late in the tourney (thank you captain obvious) .
This isn't something I'd do if your "on the bubble".
Be careful advertising/throwing a hand like this make sure you do it CHEAPLY. If it costs you more than 3-4x the BB i wouldn't do it.
I wouldn't recommend trying this unless its ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.. in fact don't do it.. it was just an idea.

Way to stick with your convictions, Mike.

I sometimes raise 72o or similar by 5-6xBB on a tight table or tight tournie table (during first or second level of blinds). Best place to do it is on the first hand of a tournie when no one knows anybody's style yet.

    Then again, I suck.

lol yea.. It's something I tried awhile back and had poor results with. Maybe the table wasn't right, maybe my timing was off.. Yep, i'm a hyprocrite today.

I think for advertising purpose 72o is too obvious. Most people will know right away your playing a cliche hand and won't take it serious.

I think it takes a hand more linke 74s or K5o.
