Good Fold? Do You Think So?
I've been wondering about this because I really think it was a good fold. I couldn't put the villain on something I could beat. But, I did fold kings OTF.
$100 GTD Deepstack Turbo - $1 + $0.1 -- 9 Max -- 20/125/250 Blinds -- 9 Players
MP2 - 8,940
HJ - 11,182
CO - 8,825
BTN - 6,145
SB - 5,979
BB - 7,105
UTG - 3,214
UTG+1 - 10,645
MP (Hero) - 7,571
Pot is 555
Dealt to Hero K, K
UTG calls 250, UTG+1 calls 250, Hero raises to 1,250, MP2 calls 1,250, five folds, UTG calls 1,000, one fold
Pot is 4555
At this point, I'm more worried about MP2 than UTG. I'm really wondering what would flat my raise there. I grant I don't have reads on the villain (a leak I need to work on).
*** FLOP *** A, A, 7
UTG checks, Hero checks, MP2 bets 2,278
I decided to check because any reasonable size bet would be called/raised by an ace. I felt a shove was best, but a shove would be called by an ace and not two clubs. Although there's two out there, MP2 could have easily flatted behind with an ace.
MP2's bet really confused me. Since I had the K and the A was on the board, I was pretty sure he didn't have two clubs. Two clubs is the only hand I'm solid against here, although his hand prices in a club draw and that also baffled me. I couldn't see the villain flatting behind pre with QQ, JJ, 10s, or with QJ of clubs, all of which would be worth betting IP on this flop.
My best guess was that the villain had AQ or AJ, but that didn't feel right either, although I couldn't put him on anything else (or anything I could beat). I think I made a good fold, but I couldn't stop thinking about this hand since I was really confused throughout the whole thing.
In hindsight, he could have had 77. This makes sense to flat pre given the size of my raise, and would also make sense with the flop bet. However, I didn't think of this until well after the hand was over.
