    Default Fulltilt's Flipout Festival

Received an email from Fulltilt re: Flipout Festival.
Figured I'd flip my way into some money this morning... but left down $1.44 after playing in 5 of them.

Everyone allin on your first table, winner moves on in tournament. New tables open up with blinds @ 250/500 & everyone sitting on 25k (if I recall correctly?... so basically starting off ITM on 50bb's)

Actually watched my hands going allin on the first table flips... was kinda amusing. (KK flops topset & loses to runner runner gutshot; QQ < Q5o; K8s flops a flush & loses to the rivered nutflush And my 1 hand that actually won the allin flip was 42s

Didn't even double my buyin as I didn't go very deep at all. Probably won't bother with them again.

It's actually not a bad idea. It basically means the first few hours to the cash is turned into a minute-long game of bingo, and the poker starts ITM with plenty of donks still around. In theory you should make the money 1 in 9 times, so you just need to make 10x the BI as an average, every time you cash, and you're making money. I don't think that would be a difficult target to reach, although I haven't looked at the prize ladder to see how many people actually make this much.

I don't like these type of games, with all the talk about poker being hasard and all, this is the type of tours that supports the politicians who say that poker is bad, as it's an easy way to create ludomaniacs. These are just pure luck, and therefore has nothing to do with what we know as a thinking sport

It's not pure luck. First hand is, but after that it's a game of skill with a higher than average number of fish, so we should have a larger edge than we usually do. Thus, seems like a great game so long as we're playing within our roll. I'd imagine we need to be tighter with our roll simply because we cash less often, but when we do cash it should on average be more than in a normal format.

On FT the payouts are topheavy in almost any MTT so I guess it doesn't change much, you just have to make topfinish once in a while to make it worth.

You could give up an edge if you are better than average, by just flipping.

    ludomaniacs tho

It seems awesome to me. In the old days I would have loved for something like the Sunday $10 donkaments on stars to run like this. I would usually be in them, but I would be hardly paying any attention to it anyway so I doubt I would have given up much of an edge. I certainly never folded any remotely close spot in a large pot. In exchange you either get more table space or an automatic deep run.

I do not like these at all. Play for free with nothing to lose okay but why pay to play bingo.

The first hand is bingo, the whole game isn't.

Donkbee is right, fish will love these games because it suits the gambler who isn't thinking about large samples. And if there's a high number of fish, well a good player who knows how to adjust is gonna go real deep pretty often when they do bingo into the cash.

Also, if you're a profitable player, then you're making money just by saving however long it takes to get to the money. If you save 3 hours of play, then you just earned 3 hours of winrate.

I don't understand the hate for these games. Those who think this is bingo are not thinking it through.

No bubble exploitation is a bit of a bummer.
idk, I actually like early/mid stages... trying to build a decent stack. Play approaching the bubble is kinda cool too.

That is my thought. A lot of the skill element of building a stack in the early stages disappears. A higher number of fish in the late game than usually is kind of tempting to try though.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who often types usually instead of usual.

I think bubble exploitabtion is a myth at my level, very few people care if they win a prize of $1.75 or whatever. I do tend to find in rebuys that as we approach the addon that a lot of people tighten the fuck up, but not enough to warrant all out craziness because there's always someone who is willing to gamble knowing they can rebuy. But yeah I don't find that many people change their game at bubble in my games, which is purely down to stakes.
