I understand that that may sound farfetched, but it would be an incredible asset to have their numbers in your contacts.
As for the PCA satellite question, I was simply asking because I am in the Bahama's quite a bit and would love to play in it if I were able to win a satellite and not shovel out 10k. I do, however, understand the unlikelyhood of me winning the PCA or even a satellite, but it's all just giving me more experience!
Ah, that's cool then
In my opinion, the best way to do it is via the forum. Make friends and contacts through the FTR, and they'll introduce you to their contacts, and it spirals out through there.
My experience was similar - I knew very little about poker but signed up to a very small UK forum. Guy I got chatting with there came to visit me at uni, and I went on holiday with him for New Year with a couple of other guys. One of those was a high stakes MTT player, the other a mid/high stakes player who is now my backer and through them I met various other players.
Live events are a really good way to make friends too; the UK has a UK tour with £770 main events which are great for going drinking with people and making friends as a lot of people play the majority of events. I imagine you'll have a similar experience in FL if you can find young guys who regularly play these events.
My biggest tip would be don't treat pros as celebrities, just treat them as normal guys. From my experience, if you just want to go drinking etc and talk about stuff like sports and life rather than spending all your time telling them how great they are and asking them for poker advice, you're way more likely to fit in to the social group.
Hope you get something out of this post, it might just be a ton of ramblings
