Default Bubble sat to Wcoop ME

109r satellite, first 4 get seat to the Wcoop main event (2.6k).

    Really unsure about:

    - correct stealing frequency
    - KQs hand
    - correct pushing range in final hand

In the last hand, moving in with rags is really really bad. You can't do this stuff against a chip leader.

    1) Sucking out on him doesn't double your equity like it would in a regular tournament. it only multiplies your equity by about 1.3
    2) He has enough chips that calling and losing doesn't hurt him that bad, so he should call with anything better than about 57% against your range.

Stealing the blinds is still worth a lot so I'd move in with top 40% or so depending on how tight is. Not sure about stealing frequency it's something I'm struggling with myself.

Top 40% sounds ok, I just didn't know what to do really, the 2nd smallest stack was just waiting for me..

About stealing, I guess it's a matter of how much they let me. I can't call reraises light so solid opponents will reraise me a lot which means I should open tight (I can't 4bet wider to compensate like I do in regular mtt's)..

What do you think about the KQ river bluff to make Ax(44/66?) fold?

Dont you think you are ahead of his range here? And calling here is probably better than just shoving any 2 in the SB vs the big stack
  5. #5
There is no way Hero can ever call there with A7... that's sinful talk. It's on the bubble.
  6. #6
QK hand. I think in a satellite it's best to conserve your chips here and check / fold river. Those chips are much more valuable in a sat than in a regular tourney.

Other than that I think your stealing range was pretty much spot-on.

Last hand I really don't like.
BB will call pretty wide here and with the other short stack I can wait for a nicer spot here.

I think your KQ hand looked too much like a busted draw. If you wanted to steal I'd prefer leading turn.
Just dipping my toes back in.
  8. #8
With the KQ hand- Have you lead out weakly on the river before to get a call with a good hand? If not, I would have rather bet more if you are bluffing, because otherwise you are giving him great odds to call that.
  9. #9
Why would calling with A7 there be sinful at all? The bad guy is probably pushing any 2, and you are almost always ahead here. As the short stack, shouldnt you take this edge?
  10. #10
    KillThatInfidel,

You should probably stay away from satellites until you understand why the A7 call would be awful. You have everything to lose and doubling up doesn't help you as much as one might think.
  11. #11
I have never played such high sats, i will admit the sats i play range from 5$-26$ buy-ins but i have made money in them. I understand doubling up means nothing, but if you make the call and win with the A7 then you have knocked out the guy and have won the seat. So i think you have a lot to gain by making the call, but also a lot to lose.
So i still dont understand why it would be a terrible call, if you are most likely slightly ahead. With an M of just under 10, and with blinds rising, one might not get a better shot at winning the seat.
Thats just my reasoning. Can you please explain more in detail why the call would be awful in your view?
  12. #12
The problem with your argument is that you are assuming it's between you and the SB for the last seat. It's still possible for one of the bigger stacks to somehow lose. If you fold you're still going to make it more than 60% of the time but calling gives you a 58% chance at best if he has any two. Most likely he's folding a few of his very worst hands so you'll probably win even less than 50-50.
  13. #13
Ahhh, so what kind of hand do you need to call here or in a similar position?
  14. #14
AJ+, 77+ sounds about right to me against an average player. If I thought he was too tight then I'd only call with AQ+, 99+.
  15. #15
To add an extra point to the satellite bubble strategy, it's often correct to fold premiums under certain conditions if you do the calculations, because the equity you gain by a double up is nothing compared to the amount you lose if you lose the hand.

This is due to the flat payout structure which gives no incentive for first place.
  16. #16
Yea i know about folding the premiums when you have a big stack and have no reason to play. Thanks mcat for explaining your reasoning to me, looks like you were right.
