stop thinking about the actual hand he showed up with and start thinking about what RANGE OF HANDS he does it with . How do you fair against Acxc hands , sets, two pairs QJ TJ,KQ etc. At the end of the day you called a raise and caller with a low suited connecter in the BB leaving you OOP for the rest of the hand. fix that leak and the bad beat never happens. You were on the idiot end of the straight ( with redraws to potentially the nut straight flush but even that could be dominated by someone else hand).

All good points but I didn't put in any reads as I didn't want to go into all that in this thread. So just for the record........

MP2 and CO were both fishes who had played over 60% of their hands, both did alot of check calling with little or nothing after the flop and I had seen both stack off with A high and no draw at least a couple of times each. I had seen CO call 3 and 4bets consistently, once with as little as Q5s and I had seen MP2 call a 3bet with ATo. That is after over 100 hands on each.

The implied odds if I hit the flop hard was worth the call preflop in my opinion. If I had not hit I would have been out of the hand.

I suppose I could have played it safe and the beat would never have happened but I was happy to risk a further 3bb for the chance to felt one or the other of them. When I did hit it hard, I got the stacks in with 96% chance to win so my reads were on the money. Shit happens and such is life.
  14. #239
your reads were that you saw them check calling a lot with air ..........HE RAISED YOU.......implying that he is no longer in the air part of his range and now actually has a hand. The fact they are both fish adds a whole load of extra flush draws to their range that most people would be folding and while you may have great implied odds if you hit you they also have combined good reverse implied odds against you

Again, good thoughts and thanks for giving me something to think about.

Having said that, having seen him go all in with A high, flush draws and bottom pair, amongst other things, as well as check calling, I figured my straight with OESFD was a pretty good hand to get the money in on.

Having said that, I guess my original post should be considered more an example of my own idiot microstakes play for taking a risk preflop against two fish and then trusting my reads post flop.
  16. #241
Maybe this one is more suited to this thread. For the record villain is 69/8 but only 13 hands. I figured I probably had the equity to call if he does this with anything more than KK+ and AK.

i can't be bothered locating the history, but for dozer, i saw a villain triple barrel 10 high on a wet board, the opponent called down flop and turn with a flush draw, holding 9c3c. Mr 10 high shoves river and op tanks before calling, having made a pair of 3's on the river. pot ~250bb

limper is 54/7 utter tard. i am in effective CO due to people sitting out. this is villain's second hand at the table (he folded his BB) and i have never played with him before. i may have actually missed some value on the river because of how many blockers there are to the nuts (he only really has AsTs, AsJs). regardless, we were deep, and i got the fear. expecting to see the two unblocked combos of the nuts a large amount of the time. anyway, ty sir. whoever you are

you missed so much value there against his range, if your not comfortable against a giant fish 250 deep with the 2nd nuts id suggest you shouldn't play deep tables ever.

defending 88 oop to a 4b is a very very bad play

agree with both statements (though the villain was a complete unknown to me at the time. we'd played one hand together lifetime. the huge fish was the limp/folder). he definitely shows up with worse flushes and perhaps even Tx enough to ship here. your comment raises a valid point for me - i wouldn't have considered myself "scared money" at this table at all. i have an adequate bankroll to play these games, and i am comfortable with losing the kind of amounts i'd expect to lose when running bad. however, the stack depth certainly did affect my decision-making abilities in this hand (manifested in me only flatting the river). hmmmm.

btw shotglass, in your hand, call preflop. 3betting 88 here is just a waste and is going to see you in some horrible postflop spots. IF you do somehow misclick 3bet (to your standard 3b sizing), calling the 4b is burning money.

went on a bumhunting trip up to 100nl. villain has reloaded at least 4 times and he is completely spewing. when i first got here he was >300 deep. he has been caught running mindless multi-street bluffs with no equity on more than 3 occasions. he also overbets pretty regularly postflop.

hahah nice rpm.. is that the reason nearly the whole table is 200bb deep? you must've come out feeling good about the session up 400. Wouldve loved it if you posted a hand showing you stacking UTG+1 there.

unfortunately i didn't win a 800bb pot all-in vs UTG+1. didn't really play any significant pots again anyone but the fish. the table is a deep-stacked table with antes. hence the stack depth (and my preflop raise sizing)

looking to play a pot in position against two humungous fish (both were >40VPIP and aggro), one of which i am >400bb deep with. plus the players behind me aren't active (have red tags meaning nit). i thought it was a standard call given table dynamics etc. probably isn't though.

ok. thanks for the advice. i don't really think it's as bad as it seems (though i'm not looking to justify it) as these two guys had been showing some incredibly erratic and spastic tendencies (which culminated in this guy limp/3betting 100bb with K2s then getting stacked + leaving the table) so i felt that seeing a flop in position vs both this deep with almost anything that could make a hand was +EV because they were so aggressive and retarded post-flop. that said, i probably fell into the "if i don't flop a hand against these deep monkeys and take their stacks, one of these other nits will" trap and began to over-adjust based on my perception of the table dynamics etc.

thats all fine but JTo is a horrible hand with horrible reverse implied odds unless you spike the nut straight and it stays the nut straight.

haha that was kind of my hope. but i realise it's never going to be so cut and dry as either flopping the nuts or not flopping the nuts, and i was probably just tilted (into playing looser, hoping to stack the fish) by the table dynamics/history. thanks again, bikes.

Just had a guy call off his stack 150bbs deep with 8 high at 10 NL.

I still can't understand why...was it a misclick or something? Either way, ez game amirite?

he wants to paint a loose image. duh.

last night at 25 NL all my profit came from 2 hands where I shoved top pair.

hand 1, villain raises flop, leads turn, I shove with TPTK, he calls off like 75bb with A high drawing dead.

hand 2, villain leads flop I shove TP 2ndK and he calls off ~85bb in a 3bet pot with TP.. wait for it.. 7 high kicker... villain was running 100/20 3bet 18.

must have had great notes and a good sample on villains to make those calls
All posts are just my own opinion about a hand or a general situation... not advices on how you should play...

villain is v bad obviously. and in all likelyhood either c/ships the flop with any pair. or leads the turn with any pair.

so his flop calls are most likely overcards or A highs. On the river you can eliminate post pairs that are below a T and theres plenty of air in his range so call.

    again villian is bad. obviously.

villian probably shoves most good pairs pre. and when i check to him i expect him to bet his entire range. which is pairs, fd's straight draws and high cards. i have enough equity against that range to c/jam and he calls with worse plenty and i have equity against pairs. if i bet he probably folds like JT QJ and i want to get a bet out of those hands and even better when he bets and decides he's commited and calls it off.

def gotta give fish rope to hang themselves in 3 and 4b pots when you are never folding.

Not the best example of my play...........all I can say is he had tried to steal 100% from button.........my call of his raise was definitely down to me being a bit on tilt at the time and having 2 overcards.
