Default My Poker professional friend judges his other friends based on their skills at poker

Just an irritating conversation. I can't talk back to him, or he'll jump down my throat, or he'll block me for months at a time or threaten to quit being my friend at all, for not being good at poker and doing homework on my game. He's ultimately very controlling, almost like a Drill Instructor, and sometimes after talking to him, pardon my french, but I just fucking hate poker.

The guy has recently been doing like 40 hours of poker homework a week and 20 hours of play. He plays 200nl on Bovada, and I play 25nl mostly, and 1 table of 50nl on Bovada.

I have another friend, who's a lot more understanding, or I dunno, he doesn't make me hate the game as much as this guy is capable of from time to time. It's like two polar opposite personalities.

[8:27:47 PM] m: everyone check calls as the PFR now days man
[8:27:55 PM] m: it is crazy how many guys are doing it now
    [8:27:59 PM] m: I am like wtf?
[8:39:28 PM] J: I dunno I don't feel playing, I made $33 in 21 hands but I had to TOTALLY SMASH THE BOARD 3 different times to make it happen. Anyways as to your other statement, how do you intend to exploit this population read of yours?
    [8:39:52 PM] m: depends
[8:40:12 PM] m: I will value bet more thin for 3 streets
[8:40:38 PM] J: if they're check calling and floating loose, yea I could see that
    [8:40:57 PM] J: it's hard to call a 2nd barrel, let alone a 3rd when u got a mediocre hand
[8:41:22 PM] m: naw they will call
[8:41:30 PM] m: they will check KK on A high flops
[8:41:44 PM] J: I check KK oop but bet KK on A high flops IP
[8:42:01 PM] m: that is bad
[8:42:08 PM] J: mars told me that was the line I should take
[8:42:21 PM] m: you might as well check IP also
[8:42:40 PM] m: I would rather bet oop and check IP
[8:42:42 PM] J: so it's still a Bluff catcher regardless if it's IP or OOP
[8:42:51 PM] m: but u never do your own thinking abou poker
[8:43:00 PM] m: and poker will always be a struggle for you
[8:43:19 PM] m: 2yea but IP you can play a 2 street game
[8:43:28 PM] m: and oop you have to play 3 streets idiot
[8:43:41 PM] m: think about what you say before you say it
[8:43:43 PM] J: well I'm lucky to have you as a friend, in that you don't judge your friends based on their poker skills
^this comment I was being very sarcastic
[8:44:01 PM] m: that is annoying when you try to act like being IP should be played like your oop

I might play tonight, I don't know right now, if I'm total trash at poker according to him, why should I even play at all?

I like him but it's irritating when he practically calls me an idiot every time I take a line he doesn't like.

How do you keep this guy happy?

Anyways, how do you guys proceed with KK or QQ on an Ace high flop?

F it, I'm gonna play Company of Heroes 2 today, instead of poker. Poker makes me angry when you're constantly told how bad you are at it.

All else said I made a good $186 or so in the last 24 hours at poker despite being so inherently bad at the game (had 1 suck out though).

The guy is a dick and clearly has no communication skills. i doubt he's that good a player too given how simply he talks about playing kk on ace high flops.

I tried to play today, just can't. When your closest poker friend constantly tells you how much you suck ass at the game, I develop a hatred for poker.

I'm sure your all better players than me based on how much he ridicules me and calls me an idiot for lines I take, granted I did grind a roll up from $30 to it's current amount at $3,804 (and $323 in poker points to boot). Would be nice if someone told me I played well at the tables for once as opposed to constantly reminding me I'm such trash at this game.

He recommends if I post in a poker forum, most of my questions should be relegated to the Beginner's section of the forum, even though I've been playing for 4 years.

BTW I'm Autistic and easily manipulated by these personality types.

As for his skills, so far he's made like $60k at bovada this year or something. Once we were playing at the same table at 100nl and I took all his chips.

I imagine he'd call me an idiot too, only it wouldn't bother me in the slightest, so long as I'm not losing money playing poker. It isn't about trying to please other people, it's about making money. Full stop.

He sounds like a twat. Don't let him keep you down, keep doing your thing, homie.

Honestly the only people that would speak this way at a poker table are people that are self conscious about their poker skills. No confident skilled player would have any reason to berate someone so bad, let alone their friend.

So I would just keep that in mind. He's probably not as good as he thinks he is.

He got real mad at me because he lost a rack yesterday playing 200nl, and then berated me some more.

ANy of you guys use skype, I need a new poker friend to get away from this guy. I like talking about poker with other poker people, but not someone with such a high opinion of themselves and such a low opinion of me.

I casually mentioned I made $49 at the tables in a 2 hour session, and he started telling me all about how I'm way too results oriented and he hates results oriented poker players.

Sorry dude, I just don't have the time. I think most of us here have demanding jobs unfortunately, but posting hands is always a good idea so that people can drop in when they can to comment.

I once had a really hot French teacher. I didn't learn much French, I was too busy checking out her lovely rack. Maybe that's your problem. Maybe you need to not be checking out your mate's junk, and focus on poker.

I think there might be a metaphor hidden in there. Maybe.

I'd like to live in this world where poker is a meritocracy, much more so where the merit is based on how gentle your soul is.

Actually, I wouldn't because in this sick, sad world, you would actually somehow be better at poker than me, you Bovada bumhuntin' max explo lagomaniac nest of crusty mange hair!

The poker gods work in mysterious ways. Your next run bad may very well be due to your gentle soul!

Either way the guy OP described better have some run bad coming to him.

I wouldn't lose much sleep worrying about his criticism.
