haha, I had no clue it had that meaning.

I think I was under the impression that using an in front of H words was like adding "aments" to the end of everything in 2009-- you know, just an internetism. Oops.

To be clear, I think that's a great story and a great example of how policing should be done. In summary: That police officer is a hero.

Fun thought: How many other times in any of our lives have we accidentally told someone to go kill themselves?

So a police officer gives out candy and soda and he's a hero

That police officer is the most sinister of all, probably putting crushed glass in the kids' ice cream like Adebisi and O'Reily did to Nino Schibetta on Oz.

There's a reason they tell you not to get too close to bears in national parks. When they become comfortable with humans, they'll come into the cities and then they get shot.
The cop is the bear in this allegory. That's right. Take a dick in the ass, Tolkien, I'll allegory wherever I want to, you judgemental cunt.

Participants in an innovative Washington State University study of deadly force were more likely to feel threatened in scenarios involving black people. But when it came time to shoot, participants were biased in favor of black suspects, taking longer to pull the trigger against them than against armed white or Hispanic suspects. […]

The findings also run counter to the public perception, heightened with the recent shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., that police are more willing to shoot black suspects. Statistics show that police shoot ethnic and racial minorities disproportionately to their population.

But the last comprehensive look at the racial makeup of justifiable and non-justifiable shootings was a 2001 study (pdf) using more than two decades of U.S. Bureau of Justice data, said James. And while statistics show black suspects are shot at more frequently than white suspects, the 2001 study found black suspects were also as likely to shoot at police as be shot at. […]

James’ study is a follow-up to one in which she found active police officers, military personnel and the general public took longer to shoot black suspects than white or Hispanic suspects. Participants were also more likely to shoot unarmed white suspects than black or Hispanic ones and more likely to fail to fire at armed black suspects.

“In other words,” wrote James and her co-authors, “there was significant bias favoring blacks where decisions to shoot were concerned.”

When confronted by an armed white person, participants took an average of 1.37 seconds to fire back. Confronted by an armed black person, they took 1.61 seconds to fire and were less likely to fire in error. The 24-millisecond difference may seem small, but it’s enough to be fatal in a shooting. […]

“…there is some evidence from the field to support the proposition that an officer’s threat bias could cause him or her to tend to take more time to make decisions to shoot people whom they subconsciously perceived as more threatening because of race or ethnicity. This behavioral ‘counter-bias’ might be rooted in people’s concerns about the social and legal consequences of shooting a member of a historically oppressed racial or ethnic group.“
    This is interesting stuff.

I doubt the study's validity, but support the conclusion.

You take officers, throw them into an experiment to test "reaction time" regarding shooting certain suspects...you're going to prove the exact thing they got. How would you feel in that situation? "Oh, theyre testing to see if im racist". <--- That thought alone is enough for 0.2 seconds of hesitation. It'd be pretty hard to not see the point of the study, and as soon as you do, any findings resulting from it are predetermined.

Yet, it makes sense that this would be the case. An officer likely doesnt want to be the next one to "shoot another black kid". I buy that there woud be a little extra hesitation. But I dont think a study that tests for bias/racism could show this. Maybe bodycam data analysis could?
  10. #19210
The simple solution to racism is to kill everyone not pure white. If everyone is the same colour, racism can't exist.

Why anyone would think that criminals who disobey other laws, including laws against murder, would obey gun-control laws is a mystery. A disarmed population makes crime a safer occupation and street violence a safer sport.

news: holly holm's camp instituted an "armbar free zone" at her gym in an attempt to deter ronda rousey from armbarring her in the octagon. im pretty sure this will totally incapacitate ronda's ability to armbar her opponents, and it will also give holly as much experience and understanding of armbars as she needs to avoid them.

You frequently hear the saying "it's not what you know, it's who you know". But it's not until you know someone worth knowing that this actually makes any real sense. Basically, if you're not literally amazing at something, then you better know someone.

I have ridiculously coarse facial hair that grows really thick, and I've literally pulled the razor blade out of a disposable razor shaving before.

I also started shaving in the summer before the fourth grade because I had a full mustache, so there's that.

I just got a pack of Wilkinson DE blades in the mail today. I started wet saving with an old school double edged razor several years back, but I started with Feathers, and those things are way too sharp for my skin. Recently I've been using the cheap blades that the pharmacy carries, and they're better, but not great. The Wilkinson's are supposed to be good for more sensitive skin, so I'm pretty excited to give them a go.

Why does it keep growing back? Why, after many years of relentlessly shaving off facial hair, does the body not get the fucking hint? I don't want it. Stop growing back.

    Stupid facial hair.

one of the things that absolutely scares me about maybe eventually having kids is that if they're truly suffering, it's illegal for me to put them down. the kind of misery that kid would experience if his condition isn't life threatening is not worth it. even the parents end up more miserable than it's worth.

Just over 1k players I think. I have no idea what I was thinking joining a deep stack game in the evening, but I'm glad. I won't be in any hurry to play that again though, I mean it was only the top 15 who got more than $20. I'd sooner have busted out first hand that get to final two tables to win $20. It took over two hours just to get from 18 to 9. I think during this phase the average stack was 100bb. I basically nitted it the fuck up from start until 3handed, at which point I opened up my range hugely.

Rejecting a chop 3handed on the basis the big stack was a donkey who would bust out next was probably the highlight; I was right.

13 hours to bust 1k players, wow

(yeah that's a brag, 4 of us left)

    I need sleep.
Renton decided to play one of these to get ready for the WSOP or something one year, and he was like pissed that he kept winning all-ins because of that very same reason. He ended up winning the damn thing, and all I heard was complaining from him the entire fucking time.

    Incoming true story:

Friend-zoned guy tries to hit on girl. Girl has a boyfriend who also has another girlfriend. The three of them live together.

Friend-zoned guy is rejected and tries to use the angle that the boyfriend doesn't care about her because he has another girlfriend.

The girl fires back that she would rather be her boyfriend's number two than the friend-zoned guy's number one.

Friend-zoned guy breaks down in tears and calls her an evil bitch.

Girl laughs in friend-zoned guy's face.

Boyfriend had fed her the line days earlier anticipating friend-zoned guy's plans.

The next day, friend-zoned guy apologizes and blames his therapist for suggesting he tell girl how he feels.

I think it's hilarious and sad.

The only people who've insulted my boyfriend to my face are the people I've friendzoned. Funny how that works.

I mean that's pretty much it. Lump in shitty (and jealous) female family members, and that about covers it.

Nobody has ever insulted my girlfriend to me. I'm clearly not friend zoning enough girls.

Maybe it's a guy thing, I dunno. Insult is a strong word -- obviously if someone straight up insults my boyfriend they aren't my friend. Although in one case it's somewhat nearing that, so I have to regulate soon. It bothers me to end a friendship I value and enjoy but loyalty>friendship.

I assume in your case you deal with that a lot -- people, male or female, tend to think that polyamorous arrangements are predicated on one person taking advantage of the other so they can have their cake and eat it too.
