    Default Digital SLR cameras

I'm thinking about buying an entry level one (<$1k). I've only owned point-and-shoot cameras in the past, so I'm basically a camera noob.

Any recommendations? Anyone know of good resources out there for research? Or if you want to convince me I don't need an SLR b/c there are plenty of great point-and-shoot's, have at it.

I want the new cannon elph $400-500, but I like the portability.

Unless you're going to print 8x10's and hang them on the wall I'm not sure they're much better than the new P&S

Me too, it takes good pictures and makes you look like a pro even though you are basically pointing and clicking in full auto mode (well I am anyway).

SLR's are good for weddings, holidays etc, but not so good for taking on nights out etc. so having 2 (or a really good camera phone) is probably the best option.

Thanks guys. After a lot of research I'm probably going with the Pentax K10D: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentaxk10d/

Best price for a fully loaded digital SLR with shake reduction. If anyone has any first- or second-hand experience with this baby, let me know.
