Default Operation Cobra 7 Delta Omega Spaceship Gerbil

    who: me.

what: become a successful poker player (eg., pro)

    where: here

when: as long as it takes

why: because I need to. Because I need to become financially stable, and because I derive some form of self-worth from it. Why poker? because I can, and I want to.

how: As of right now, I've got 120$ in my carbon account. I'm going to grind 4nl until I crush it. My goal is to put in 20k hands per month. Also, spend time studying and doing hh reviews. Also, I'm going to maintain a healthy lifestyle by going for regular runs, starting at 2 miles, 2 or 3 times a week. I will study concepts in poker for dedicated periods of time, where the topic at hand will be my main focus. I will continue the focus for at least 2 weeks. Then I will either continue or choose a new topic to study as the situation dictates.

help: please let me know any suggestions you might have, serious ones only please. If you think I could be more successful by changing some of those goals or time periods, I would be happy to hear it, and I will take it into serious consideration. Also, if someone can help me define what "crushing" a stake entails in terms of some measurable quantity, please let me know.

Also, if anyone can think of some good criteria for updating this operation, let me know. I was thinking every 10k hands or so

Alright, slight update to my plan. I'm going to cut down on the number of tables I play. Instead of 9-12 tabling, its going down to 3-4, and I'm going to meticulously keep track of my opps tendencies, making plenty of notes along the way. Obviously this is going to mess with my # of hands per period of time goal, so instead I'm going to try to figure out an hours of play-based goal. mass multitabling, I usually hit my point of fatigue around 900-1000 hands. According to pt4 and excel, I've been averaging about 40hands/table/hour. At that rate, multitabling, I usually hit 1k hands after about 2.5 hours of play. So I'm going to use that as my base, and say my new hourly goal is going to be to play 2-2.5hr sessions, with at the very least a half hour break to recoup my stamina. probably spend 30 min dicking around at something, and then another half hour or so studying. Followed by another session when I can, and more studying afterwards.

Anyone have comments on my plan? Or suggestions?

4 tables is probably too much, I'd suggest 2 as you don't seem to be very good. The idea behind the plan is correct though.

40hands seems a very low amount, I always estimate 70 hands an hour per table and this is a very conservative estimate. What makes you get 40?

2 hour sessions are probably too long, if you can do it fair enough, but concentrating 100% on multiple tables is quite hard to do.

And you should be studying at least as much as you play, probably more. 30 mins studying is just lol. What do you expect to do in those 30mins that's going to be of any real use, it takes about that long to go through a hand properly and that's when you have done a few so know what you're doing.

40 hands/hour/table is my data from the past 10k hands I've played.

As for the 30 min, I meant that as the minimum break between sessions. I always do extra review after im done playing for the day, and before i start. Although to be honest, i definitely am not doing 50/50 play/study. probably more like ~2hr/day. which maybe i should start doing more of, but this is my starting point.

as far as 3-4 tables, I feel that I can do this giving it my full attention, and I worry that if I drop to 2 tables, I'll start getting bored and spending more time browsing facebook or some such nonsense. so I guess I'm trying to maximize my concentration.

the 2.5 hr goal is based of of my session data. Usually it was around the 1k hand point where my greenline started dropping in each session.

Good luck Zorkion. From the hands you've posted in BC I can tell that you're thinking about things the right way and asking the right questions. keep it up!

Alright, it's been mentioned here and in some comments on my hh posts. Im cutting it down to 2 tables for now until I learn how to play this game properly. Anybody have advice on what sort of metric I should use to determine when I can go back up to 3-4 tables at a time?

    it did.

im finally back in the green for 4nl woo!

I've been thinking more about my opponents ranges and how my bets affect them, and ever since then, my greenline has been like /

Also, I got more comfortable taking notes on opps, so I bumped up my # of tables to 4

so, long story short: in a combination of possibly playing a smidgen better and some undoubtable rungood, I've been pulling ~25bb/100 over the last 5k hands.

I know its not a lot, but it feels like progress, and I'm kinda proud of it.

oh, I've also been working on playing longer sessions, so my current goal has risen from 2-2.5 hrs to 4-4.5

Wow that's pretty long! how many tables?

Why not just play a couple of 2 hour sessions instead of one four hour one?

I play 4nl on Carbon too. We've probably run into each other. Want to trade screen names?

Hey, have you played the guy who's 80/70 and 3bets 45%? He always waits for someone to bet and then he raises them but gives up when they call. He's one of the most unusual players I've come across.

im doing 4 tables at a time. Also, I find that I'm preferring longer sessions since it allows me to...get in the zone, so to speak, as opposed to taking breaks often and not giving myself time to concentrate on the action

I cant say I remember the guy of the top of my head, but maybe. By the sounds of it, he's probably not the type to stay at a table for long
