Trip Report - Sands - Atlantic City

I arrive to Atlantic City and I am instantaneously dazzled by lights and sounds of the big city. Now being a suburbanite such things are uncommon, to say the least. My buddy and I state that the goal for tonight is to play at least two casinos. Failure was inevitable the moment I walked into the Sands Casino, I have never seen so many lights and old people playing slots. I quickly maneuver myself to the fourth floor, where I get carded instantaneously. Basically there were 6 tables there two 2/4 limit, and 3-4 full tables of Max $150 1/2nl. Due to the fact that I have never been in a casino before, I have no clue on the etiquette (except for avoiding string bets) and thus I ask the Pit boss if there are any open tables. To my surprise he said that there are seats open on both limit and no limit. As he escorts me to my seat he asks me if I am sure I don’t want to try limit, I reply “No”, he replies “ooookay”.

I sit down at the table and someone quickly asks me to switch positions with him, I reply no problem (trying to be nice, I was shocked that no one complained about the positional affect of such a request). The table make up was 50% college-aged students and 2-3 regulars (at least once a month), 1 to 2 tourists, and one seasoned pro (pro being a relative concept here). I buy in with 50BB (MAX 75BB). Everyone is friendly and I see more limpers than party 25NL. There is quite a bit of preflop raising, contrary to what I have heard about low limit games. The stand raised was 12-15 dollars. Most people sat with around 100, with 3 with 200, and one with over 400 (unlucky to my left). As I play several orbits of folding the guy next to me decides to give me some friend advice about positional play and odds. At this moment I relaxed as I realized that the biggest stack on the table had several misconceptions. BAM I get AQo late position (11 handed), I raise the standard 12 get three callers, a flop of like 10,7,3 rainbow. Everyone checks to me and I do a weak bet c-bet of 25 dollars everyone folds. I just made about 40 bucks. I was playing very few hand and not being very talkative.

People actual noticed that I was tight, and stopped giving me action, which was great since I missed the flop more often than not and still won. But I decided I am here to have some fun lets switch it up. Big Blind with 64o, the only very aggressive (seemed like he raised any ace) raised 12 everyone folds, I call. Flop comes A T 4 (wrong suits), I check quickly he bets 15, I know that he most likely has a very weak hand so I go with it (ie horrible play that looks great after the fact), un important turn card I check again and he bets 25. I think about it and call. River comes a T and I nearly instantly bet 40. He thinks for a while (2min) and folds. I show collect the pot and give a healthy tip to the dealer(everyone is no hungry to play with me). And so my rival with this guy starts.

I continued my play (which they just assumed I was getting drunk since I was on my 6th or 7th ? drink of the night).

The dealing staff wasn’t too great. One hand I had pocket 33s guy with 40 dollar raises I call. I bet the flop (AT7) everyone folds and its just me and him. As I am talking with the guy, the dealer takes his cards and mocks em. Arguments ensue, where I just say lets do what the rules say and we spilt the pot and I tip the dealer, which everyone find hilarious. The guy with the 40 was happy since I showed and I had the marginal better hand. There were a few good dealers but overall it was less than what I expected. I had a great time and now I am addicted to live play my 6 hours there flew by and I want more. Anyone know casinos around Chicago? Besides my flopped trip aces getting cracked and losing half my 300 stack everything was great. Consequently I tripled up on the next hand with flopping a straight out of the blind with 64o.

    Buy in 100:
    Cash out: 480ish
lost 27 in slots and BJ
Best part was that it was smoke free

Let me know if anyone has questions I suck at writing anything intelligent.

Hollywood casino in Aurora has 6-7 tables running, however they are all LHE, from 5/10 to 20/40 1/2 kill. I hear East Chicago in Indiana is the closest to chicago, never been there and I dont know what they play. I'm unsure about Embress or other casinos in Illinois.
