Default Tell Your Tilt Story (Read About the Time I Threw Up...)

Back in 2005, I was playing 25nl with my $80 bankroll (brilliant idea), and managed to run my stack up to about $50. Another guy who had me covered was sitting across the table. He raises pre-flop, and I call with 99. We see the flop, and it comes 963 rainbow. All 200bb of the money goes in. The flop comes 6x, and he has 66.

I literally threw up in the floor.

    What's your tilt story?

Haha, I've never literally thrown up, but I certainly remember my worst day as a professional online poker player.

November 2006: I had been out of the hospital for less than an hour (Hiatal Hernia closure and Gall Bladder removal). All stiched up, smelling like death since I'd been on a hospital bed pissing into a tube and shitting into a pan for a few days, and highly drugged on pain killers, I decided I "needed" to get back to work.

I had just rented a two-story house that my then-wife has whined for, but the only thing that had made it there was the Internet connection. So with my laptop I sat my sick ass down all alone in a 30-degree living room with no furniture and began the $100 Turbo NLHE SNG grind on Stars. I had roughly $14,200 when I logged-on at 10am. Approximately 50 SNGs later, I had less than $10k. That single 4-hour session ushered my move from SNGs to MTTs, which I played full-time throughout 2007.

When I first started playing online poker in 2004, I busto'ed a grand total of 14 times ($50 deposits each) until I caught on. This was back in the days when there were no micro-stakes available. Of all those busto-moments, none compared to the pure bile I felt all over on that cold November '06 morning & afternoon.

From time to time I used to buy-in to a 2NL game or cheap SNG and just play like a over-aggressive moron to burn off steam. Then I'd take a day or two off.

There was this one time where every time the action was mine, I'd min-raise. I cracked myself right up. Eventually another player caught on and started doing the same thing. Was just hilarious. To me anyways.

No funny stories from me, as I'm just not an aggressive person or play stakes where I'm bothered about the money. That said, tilt is, and always will be a problem for me in terms of not quitting sessions soon enough and having times when I just have to play 20+ tables and/or do a bad impression of Viktor Blom. I have 15BI losing sessions maybe once a month as a result, which should be only 2-3 BI losses if I was cocentrating properly.

i once dropped about $1.5k in a live hand with AK vs AQ all in on the turn with a board of A4A4Q. i was rolled for the stakes but new to playing for such large amounts - i think i was grinding 25nl online at the time. so i decided to drop another 2k trying to bluff in ridiculous spots i should have never got myself in and then get as drunk as i could for about 60 hours straight. i dont recommend doing any of this.

5-6 years ago was the first time I had a 20 BI downswing in one session. Was 24 tabling 100NL nitring and ran into some crazy hands. I've done mil+ hands of FR and prior to that or after never have seen such crazy amount of hands so quickly. The 20 BI swing all happened within 2 hours. I didn't straight lose 20 buyins, I won few buyins within the 2 hours but after the 2 hrs I was down 20BI. I remember it left my mouth/throat dry after.

I have thrown my mouse across the room in anger before, luckily it still worked after, this was years ago though I am much better at handling variance now. Also my friends almost came to blows during a home game.

My 18 year old self was down to his last $5 from a few $50 deposits. I registered for a $5 husng and got it in with my AA v villains QQ. The Q on the turn sent me into in a primal rage and I literally kicked a hole in my wall. Did what any 18 year old kid living in their parents house would do and bought a large poster to cover the hole.

This post also makes me realize how old I am.
