"I am curious as to what swayed baudib's mind, though.
What is the guideline which he used to determine which of these two disagreeing parties wins out?"

    Very clearly stated questions.

The answer was: because BID was complacent with the decision during the discussion. It was only after the fact that he changed his mind.

Re-read my posts. You're getting a bit weird.

I enjoyed this game. I would also enjoy reading the wolf-chat.

I am saying that I learned skills which helped me to be a better wolf by reading wolf chats prior to ever playing as a wolf.

Man, these seem rather weaponized to me. I'm willing to wade into the muck and discuss what I see, but you're bearing teeth right now.

Drew, you always had the power to post the link. I just ask that you do it for good reason. I'm not out here trying to scorch earth, I'm holding my position for reason, I ask you do the same.

I'm really not. Sorry if my tone is off.
    ...
It still seems weaponized when all I was looking for was, "BID changed his mind."
    ...
    ?

I'm just trying to understand what went down, as a precedent for future actions. It makes sense to me now, and there was really no decision from baudib to make. A request was made. There were no objections (at that time). He went with it.

I hit baudib hard and relentlessly with the points I've been making here - let the wolves be wolves. The Den thread needs to be better able to serve its purpose. Eventually, baud relented.

Drew apparently didn't pay attention to that.

But why my opinion is winning out and Drew's isn't?

Well, once Drew outs the thread - it's out. That's the end.

I'd like to believe that Drew has a bit of common respect for the community and recognizes that unilateral action sours us all - though I can't know about that for sure right now.

I went back to the den thread to double check what I said, if anything, on the topic of withholding it post game.

Either something is wrong with my phone or the thread has been deleted.

It's a moot point. I misunderstood how it all went down.

IDK about the unilateral action phrasing*, but respecting the mod's rules is paramount to the integrity of the game.

    This is how I feel.

    Sorry if I offended anyone.

rilla, you're cherry picking what you want to see. i wonder if you just skipped gabes and my posts.

there is no strategy that can be hidden for future games by not revealing dens. revealed dens is a boon to ftr. if we had an enormous pool of players, that may change.

baud, it's easy to support mods when they don't insult people.
  24. #3324
the idea that our villagers are too good is a myth. people too easily forget the several recent games where wolves crushed.

outside of the reasons i listed before, we've had tons of village wins due to imba. it should never be possible for a game to end before d4 via specials clinch, but we've done lots of those. for example, the game where me ong luco were wolves, it wasn't because of some miracle villaging that we lost, we already knew we were done for before a single wolf had died because the village imba was so incredible.

I looked up FTR's policy on suspending accounts. I believe the first rule talked about abusing other players.

I'd argue baudib, a mod, has been tip toeing, if not crossing, that line with me.

Don't gey me wrong, I have thick skin when it comes to internet bullying. However, I do get stirred up when a mod does it on my fav forum.

What's the purpose of the Den thread, wuf?

The wolf villager dynamic is background to support the cause, but it is not the cause.

the purpose is for the game itself to function. it has nothing to do with keeping certain thoughts from certain players private for the long term. even if it did have that purpose, it couldn't be successful since the information gets out at a decent pace in such a small pool. the notion that it serves long-term wolf purposes was indirectly emergent from norms of different ww communities, not by an adherence to the overarching purpose of the game.

we're evolving, we're making it better. years ago the mods just said "wolves have to find their own form of communication", which was mostly just cumbersome pm's. these were problematic because they didn't allow for supervision necessary to make sure there was no cheating. then after skype got bigger it became easier to use and mods were included in the convos. then an even easier format was found, quicktopic, that was less cumbersome and kept the roles even more secret (no more "hey this guy logged onto skype but he's never on omg is he a wooooolf") and made for easier oversight. after quicktopic became popular and dead threads became popular, we realized that we have these logs now, so we no longer have to discard wolf chat like we always did before. the logs keep the game funner for everybody and they don't reduce wolf abilities.

it also allows for greater oversight. it keeps the player pool less gentrified. look at how many various mods we've had since we started opening dens post-game. coincidence? maybe, maybe not. but you can guarantee that it's easy for somebody who never modded before to step up and do it when they read dens and see there's not much to it. had quicktopic been a thing from the beginning, it would probably have from the beginning been a norm that the dens are always opened post-game

these days, everybody is able to mod games. the community is tighter and people are more comfortable with the game

besides, like boog said, when he me daven and monstr were wolves, our den was all strategy. does anybody remember what the strategy was? hell, i dont. i only remember two specific things i did that ended up helping the remaining wolves in a small way, but i doubt anybody remembers them (jkds might because at the time he said he wants to do more of one of them). even then, it's not like im going to use them again or if i do it'll be easy to catch. gabe is right when he said that strategy is so dynamic that things are so situational dependent that we don't really even learn much from knowing what wolves did before.
  28. #3328
not to mention, is it really better for the game for somebody who didnt get wolf for years to have no idea what goes on in dens? this isn't a competition. if you're playing a pick up game of basketball with your buddies and one of them doesn't have a jump shot, you take a couple seconds out of the game and show him how to jump shot.
