I'll let FTR choose who I vote for in the presidential election.

this is such a stupid thread, because you want to vote for obama, and you know that ftr is overwhelmingly liberal, so there is basically no way won't vote for mccain.

I was at a Wendy's restaurant at 2am last night just before they closed. There were a group of young adults with one girl in particular who seemed a bit off kilter. Anyways, she was being loud and obnoxious towards everyone, berating them with questions like, "Obama or McCain?" Then she'd start yelling, "Vote Obama, vote Obama!"

I got the feeling she had no idea what policies were held on either side but rather she fell into this group of people who are bias based on their emotional attachment to this man. He presents extremely well - a major reason for JFK winning the election over Richard Nixon in 1960.

Really Spoon, I just hope you really take the time to find out each canidates view on everything and make the choice you actually feel is best for this country. Republican/Democrat shit aside. This is an important one I think.

What exactly has Obama done or said to indicate that he is "pro poker"?

I'd be more than willing to vote for a candidate who is PRO POKER.

Playing in a weekly small stakes poker game is no indication that Obama supports our freedom to play online poker. In fact, Obama repeatedly voted against expanding legal gambling in Illinois. One of the articles cited even says it's UNLIKELY he will support online poker.

Best of my knowledge, the only candidate that supports our freedom to play online poker is Bob Barr. Barr is the Libertarian party candidate and doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning

QFT. There was a very deliberate smear campaign against ron paul in the media.

Why? Cause he wouldn't play ball with the monies that run the show.

It's so cute when Americans believe they're a shining example of freedom and democracy when they have the 'freedom' to choose between two barely different parties controlled by largely the same special interest groups.

Small wonder voter apathy has almost taken over to the point where it's tough to get half the eligibles out.
  15. #15
the ron paul issue is explained by the media, just like how most political issues can be explained by the affects provoked by the media. whatever the spin zone says half the country believes it verbatim.

wrt poker, obama is the good choice. in fact, he's as good a choice for poker as ron paul would be. the fact that he has not come out for poker doesnt matter because his only power as president on this issue is veto power and he will go with what the dems want. its the dems of house and senate that will get good bills passed and a dem prez will not veto it.

a vote for mccain is with zero question a vote for illegal internet pokering because he WILL veto a positive poker bill simply because its what his base wants.

people dont seem to realize that most of politics isnt so much this candidate or that candidate, but this party or that party.

I don't think this is true. Republicans have changed drastically in the past 8 years. There is no longer a conservative party in the United States. The president is who he surrounds himself with. Bush did not make good choices.

here is how they have changed: most, not all, are just interested in keeping their seats, and do what dems do essentially. spend money and appeal to special interest groups.

Conservatives really have blown the economy. Clinton didn't really do anything, but the republican idea heralded originally by Laffer that somehow cutting taxes would increase government revenue has been a clear failure that has a lot to do with the devaluation of the dollar. Boo. I am sick of republicans taking out loans and calling them "tax cuts". Somehow much of the public is OK with massive deficit spending. I'm not saying the Dem's are good with the economy (not at all, Clinton for example had the opportunity to--gasp--save or invest for our future, the correct Keynesian move) but wow did Bush Sr. and Reagan fuck us.

    CAPITAL GAINS TAX

    McCAIN

0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples).

McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.

    OBAMA

28% on profit from ALL home sales.

How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes.
If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community,

28% of the money you make from your home sale will go to taxes.

This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on income from their homes as part of their retirement income.

    .................................................. .................................................. ......

    DIVIDEND TAX

    McCAIN

    15% (no change)

    OBAMA

    39.6%

How will this affect you? If you have money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that 'Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.'

    .................................................. .................................................. .....

    INCOME TAX

    McCAIN
    (No changes)

    Income Tax

    Single, 30K $ 4,500

    Single, 50K $14,000
    Single, 75K $23,250
    Married, 60K $16,800
    Married, 75K $21,000
    Married, 125K $38,75

Under Obama, your taxes could almost double!

    .................................................. .................................................. ......

    INHERITANCE TAX

    McCAIN

    - 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)

    OBAMA

    Restore the inheritance tax

Many families lost businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will lose them to these taxes.

    .................................................. .................................................. ......

    NEW TAXES PROPOSED BY OBAMA

New government taxes proposed on homes more than 2,400 square feet.

New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already)
