    himself fucker.
    Today?

Nah, I selflessly nudged a coworker to take a new job that he will very likely be happier at at personal cost to myself (since he was a bulwark against a lot of additional stressors in my life).

Currently I am very far from evil.
20yrs. ago, some might say I was definitely evil (or at least ruthless, angry & extremely violent). At the time it fit the job description.

If I was given a black box, and told I can press it and a random person in Africa who I do not know of and does not know anyone I do, dies and I get $100,000 in my bank account I would press it.

If I would not gain something from pressing it, I would not do so just for fun.

Does this make me amoral or evil or just selfish?

Maybe I need to send this hypothetical to a poll.

*note: Africa chosen in this example as this is the most remote continent to me.

Probably.. normal. Research has shown that people behave fair ("good") towards others not because of some kind of inherent goodness in people's hearts - that would make no sense to have evolved - but because we fear other people will spite us if we treat them unfairly. Game theory-wise if we have to interact with people who we know will spite us, displaying fairness evolves naturally as an optimal strategy.

Without spite or other repercussions we can expect people to behave unfair/evil/amoral/selfish, which is also what happens in practice.

To clarify the meaning of amoral, where's the option for people who don't believe in good and evil?

I think spoon's point has been summarized before.

"There is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so."
    -Hamlet

As far as a definition of evil... good luck... I took a class called "Evil and Demonic Christian Traditions" in college. It sucked. There was a ton of reading and the prof. was intolerant of off-topic discussion. If you couldn't make your point in 3 seconds, you got shut down.

Basically, the bible calls natural disasters evil... so the oldest account of what evil is - well - it's just different from modern standards. As far as I gathered/remember the bible tends to call something evil if it's bad for a bunch of Jews. Natural disasters that befall other peoples just don't get mentioned so much. And by "bad", I mean widely unpleasant, but not necessarily life-threatening.

Also, the most evil thing most people can site is the Holocaust. I wonder how many, if any at all, of the Nazi party would have considered themselves evil. Surely not Hitler, Himler, Goering, etc.

Favorite quote on good and evil, which is useful even for amoral people.

“Inside of me there are two dogs. One is mean and evil and the other is good and they fight each other all the time. When asked which one wins I answer, the one I feed the most.”

Since we all want to do X but we cave to our own vices, but I find the more you cave the easier it is to cave.

Boost once described me over pancakes as "bad. not like morally corrupt or evil, but as deficient."

I don't think there exists a man that can live up to Boost's moral code.
