PPA Executive Director John Pappas sent out an email about this on January 28th:
While the snow was starting to melt at the PPA HQ in Washington D.C., a lot happened on the iGaming front in California. Yesterday, your state Assembly passed AB 1437, a bill that will license and regulate daily fantasy sports (DFS) in California. The swift passage of this bill shows that the California legislature does in fact care about protecting consumers who play online games; BUT what about poker players? We need your help to remind the state legislature that your protection and freedoms matter too!
...
Internet poker is a skill based game and players deserve the same rights afforded to DFS players in the bill passed by the state Assembly.

The January 6th http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-...e53376325.html article talks about the possibility of regulating DFS:
California lawmakers moved Wednesday to regulate the booming daily fantasy sports industry despite uncertainty around whether the contests are a form of gambling and if the Legislature has authority over the issue.

Responding to the surging popularity of sites like DraftKings and FanDuel – and to a legal backlash in other states seeking to prohibit the sites on the grounds that they offer illegal gambling – Assembly Bill 1437 would authorize California companies to offer Internet fantasy sports after obtaining licenses from the California Department of Justice. It passed the Assembly Governmental Organization Committee on a 17-1 vote.
