I started using Poker Edge because it supported Bodog which I don't think poker tracker does yet. It really helped me start to think about what my opponent has, still a big problem for me to not concentrate on just my own hand. I think that any software out there that works on your sites that you play that keeps track of your hands and opponents will be a big plus. The first thing that helped me was scouting out tables. You can find out in a few minutes if the table has loose players on it or not, that alone will really improve your win rate, if you are pretty tight like I am.

You can get PO for free.

To be honest... if you don't know what you're looking for from the software, you probably won't get much from it now. Read all the stickied threads in the forums, go play a few hundred tourneys, or a few thousand hands of ring, and post questions here.

Then, you'll be ready to understand what PT or PO can give you.

I agree with this, however whether you play ring games or tourney's programs like pokertracker used with a HUD like pokeracehud are valuable tools. Outside of those you REALLY need to understand what you want to get out of the software you get.

I'm all in with Poker Office, and I've been very happy with it so far. It's a tracking software with a built in HUD (shows statistics on the opponents at your table), if you didn't already know what kind of software it is.

I've been using PokerTracker for two years now and it has been extremely valuable to me to review tough hands and find leaks. Lately, I've been wanting to get a Heads Up Display (HUD) for use in tracking stats live while I play. What would the forum members recommend for this? PokerAce any good? Ease of installation and use? (I play on Stars primarily)

@chipper, I use PO, but AFAIK pokerace is the most used one.

PAHud is awesome. Go get a trial for it. You gotta buy it to use it on multiple tables, though.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone use both PT and PO? Is there any point in using both as far as supported sites go? I use Poker Office and I'm quite happy with it, but was wondering if getting Poker Tracker and PA HUD would be worth it.

I use Poker Tracker and PA HUD. I wouldn't ever want to play with out it. I like Poker Tracker, because I can review my HH's and all kinds of stuff. Also PA HUD displays the mucked cards the very next hand which is so awesome when your Multi tabling. To be able to see some donk keeps betting into you with nothing is just the best!! ( I know you can use the HH provided by stars, but the PA HUD is so fast)

It's $25 for PA HUD right? What a deal!!

Well PO is also fast with hud stats and showing mucked cards and reviewing hands.

But although i use it, i think if you have to choose, the PT would be a little better. PO can't show BB/100 for your starting hands; it doesn't show the player icons (only on hud); PO graphs are a bit less nice-looking than PT's; it can display your std/100 (PO only has it per hour); BB/100 in PT can be set to be BigBlind (PO use BigBets only); more i don't know as i don't have PT.

but overall i get the feeling PT is better. too bad you have to buy pokerace as well. but the differences aren't that crucial, so i'll probably buy PT once i can make my withdrawal.

PS 25 for PA feels a farking lot considering that it comes free with PO.

Maybe I'm just ignorant, but I really don't think it sounds like those stats are all that important. I mean, the BB/100 and BB/100 with certain hands are pretty much the same?

The risk I see in using PT w/HUD and other software like that is that you might start using it as a crutch all too often. After all, like in the stock market, past statistics do not indicate future performance. Making your decisions solely on what has just transpired at your table for the last several orbits may lead you off in the wrong direction if you rely only on the stats. You sometimes have to rely more on your instincts rather than stats.

I know a few players who use a stats HUD during tourney and ring play. But what does it really buy you other than early tendencies. Can you really judge a player in a MTT by a mere few dozen hands? Knowing how good players like to change gears mid stream, early tendencies may be too misleading.

So while you might pick up on some tidbits of information, use these tools as another opinion that you can look in on, but don't use them as a crutch to base all of your decisions on.

I have players in my ring game stats with 300 or 400 ++ hands, trust the numbers, that is not a crutch, that's money in the bank.

Ring games yes, MTT or SNGs where you don't see that player that often, not as much.

sometimes it helps with tourneys, but not nearly as much as in cash. Lots of ppl have the programs but only use them with cash. I like using them with tourneys too, but always as a supplement to my decisions, not to make my decisions.

I've also been debating buying Poker Academy Pro 2 as a training tool. I'd like to be able to set up some scenario's verses aggressive players and work through some strategies aiming to improve my play. Anyone use Poker Academy Pro 2 and feel it's worth the $100+?
