Meta-game spot

$5/$10 live.

Opponent is tight/passive. He plays $40/$80 limit a lot, don't know if he's any good. Used to play Pai Gow, got pwned at first when playing hold'em and has way over-adjusted. He's also shy about getting stacked and runs all sorts of retarded scared money lines, although I know $1k isn't a lot of money to him.

Anyway.... tightish/passivish game with a couple spots and it's like the second orbit. Bascially I'm playing Grand Theft poker.

I open :Qs: from the CO for $40
BN calls ($800), blinds fold.

flop is like :Ks: with $90ish in the pot.
I c-bet $60, BN calls.

turn is a blank.


Are we 3 barreling here? I'd hate to showdown a dogshit hand and he seems to the perfect spot for it? He's floating me almost never and is absurdly straight-forward with his raises. Heck, not even sure if he'd raise a flush draw.

Other players are unknown enough that you think they believe you're running good rather than stealing lots?

I don't always play in high gear and some aren't regulars.

I've actually had to dial up my bluffing frequency against a bunch of people because they've taken such a beating running into hands that they've told themselves that they won't give me action.

Online v's someone like you described I'd shut down. I'd be barrelling if I felt there was some meta-game advantage if I did get called down, but sounds like the opposite here.

If my plan is to rob the table blind, then the meta-game issue is that it's the wrong time to get caught with my hand in the cookie-jar and I don't want to plant the seed of mistrust in a really passive predictable guy to my left because it may inspire him to be a little less predictable.

I don't get it. Can't you wait for a hand with at least a tiny bit of equity?

Does it matter if I think 3 barrels will show a profit? Or am I just spewing? Also, showing that I'll back up aggression with more aggression gives my c-bets and 2nd barrels more fold equity, right?

I think he folds an 8 on the turn and folds a king on the river sometimes so why not barrel? Possibly overbet the river for added effect.

barreling a blank turn seems pretty meh here... also not a great spot to triple barrel imo, even a nit will call KQ here with the draws missing, and might have had a FD if it does hit

i don't see a huge problem with it

i think if my image was perceived to not be great, i'd need a gutshot though.

im also pretty ok with betting the turn with the intention of giving up the river. Betting turn doesn't commit you to a third.

Well if the turn is a heart I'm saying no, don't.

Other blank I mean idk this is pretty light to barrel here but i suppose its fine.

Can't we just throw our hand into the muck at showdown? I'm fairly certain being one-and-done with Q9o with only one small cbet in the pot isn't going to ruin your image but if they see you barrel and get it shown down you'll be in trouble then. Plus, its obvious he's not afraid of the King so there aren't many good turn barrel cards.

Psychology is different when you're not dealing with lunch money.

The game is such a paradox.

Live players call too much, play too many hands and are generally impatient.

Yet, the real dollar value of the bets and short bankrolls of many put them on scared money when the big bets hit the table...
