Default Help: 50nl 3b pot ip

Villain is 25/22 over 125 hands with 13% 3b which includes 14% of 14 BB resteal possible and 15% of 13 SB resteals possible. AF = 9.

I got to the river and decided I was beat, but now I'm now lost all the way. Probably shoulda just folded preflop, but any advice would be appreciated.

    NL Holdem $0.50(BB) Full Tilt
    SB ($50.45)
    BB ($94.65)
    UTG ($59.35)
    Hero ($61.45)
    CO ($35.20)
    BTN ($50)

    Dealt to Hero K Q

fold, Hero raises to $1.75, fold, fold, SB raises to $6, fold, Hero calls $4.25

    FLOP ($12.50) K 5 J

SB bets $6, Hero raises to $14, SB calls $8

    TURN ($40.50) K 5 J 6

    SB checks, Hero checks

    RIVER ($40.50) K 5 J 6 T

SB bets $30.45 (AI), Hero ??

    SB wins $38.50

Did you raise flop as a bluff or for value? If it was value, how come you shut down on the turn?

This is pretty much the main problem with the hand, you don't seem to know what you hope to accomplish with your flop raise.

I'd fold preflop but I'd defend it from the button vs this guy. As played if I'm raising the flop it's to jam turn but I'd probably just flat flop since you don't seem to have a crazy enough dynamic where he's jamming over your raise with a wide range.

I believed I was calling a light 3bet preflop. I still think in that spot he's more likely to have A4s than AQ+.

I was raising the flop because I thought HE was bluffing, but now I'm seeing my mistake: I made a flop raise he'll only be able to call when I'm beat. If I think he's bluffing, I'm better off calling the flop then betting the turn if he shuts down. That way, he has stuff in his range I can beat.

He insta-bet the river, btw. I'm pretty sure I was doomed if I called that down.

Thanks, Lclan, Meeloche, I appreciate the bump in the right direction.

    np.

FWIW, as meeloche stated, I would much rather defend here with KQo against the 3B from BU. You can expect someone like him to 3B light or playback at you from a LP PFR steal attempt more often than an EP pfr.
