Hey, something I was just thinking about - If you set up a HU MTT tourney at Stars, the payout would be winner takes all. How's it going to work with all these private matches going on?

You keep what you win, its not about the money.

Works for me. I wasn't planning on winning myself, I'm gonna be happy if I can pull an upset or two.

I am on56K internet and even with reasonable caching this stuff loads slow for me. My previous posts were from GASP work broadband. So I will check this board mostly during days for PokerPat's response here to schedule a nite game. So perhaps we will play Tuesday. I have no clear plans most nights. home with kids or OUT early for a kid event.

Sometimes I have Yahoo Messenger on as SuperDave9x19, but with my piece o crap country phone line modem connection I try not to multitask while playing for money. Folded 2/3 of my stack while chip leader in DOMINATING position and had a power fluctuation. boot up login time cost me a bit.

I do not know format of tourney. IS it best 2 of 3 (which could go 2 games) Heads up or is it 3 matches so 3-0 is possible?

Is there a link to it on PokerStars somehow that i dunno?

I would have a hard time "planning" to get a specific person on a HU match due to lag. I could log in as 1st player while other player watches for me n joins. I never saw Private setups but I may just be blind.
Been playing money poker for 34 years and decided in 2002 to try that TX Holdem game on TV. Then found Pokerstars in Summer 2005. Still not an overall winner but i am on a good trend and nearly there.

All the same problems I have. I also have a country ass analog connection - plays fine once I'm on, but a couple seconds lag at least when I pick a new table.

I'm thinking about timing my match with Aces by talking on IRC and the guy with the slowest connection gets on a table 1st , and tells the other to jump in.

Let us know here asap if you figure out any better way. We are trying to put our games together Tues night.

I am on Eastern Seaboard USA. Perhaps 9-10 PM tonite or any time Tuesday after 6PM.

Is it safe to consider me n PokerPat a match?

I will examine this thread upon return home today after work.

    I am SuperDave9x1 on PokerStars.
Tuesday after 6 is good for me. Wanna say 7:30 PM EST?

My match with Dwarfman is postponed due to the fucking overlooked problem that we couldn't both register within the same millisecond. I played 3 unknown opponents, all of them one half a hexasecond click faster than dwarfy.

    Dammit.

Its difficult to get in the same tourney on Stars, especially the $5 ones but it can be done. The best thing to do is to talk to each other on IRC or something and then wait till one table fills and then agree to reg on the new one as soon as it appears. The other options are to play a higher buy-in tourney or play on a site where they fill up slower.
  10. #85
Arkana i bought into stars for the minimum $50 so if you want we can just play 2x $10+1 or $20+2... they might fill up at a more playable rate?

Do they have different starting chips/blind structures though? Would that affect the tourney?

We could play it texas style... double the stakes every round!

I think that is good with me. Gotta double check with bossbabe to see if she made any "plans" for me and/or the kids. Worst case would be to put it off to 8:30 or 9.

What communication mode? Yahoo Messenger ok?

Haven't loaded IRC chat since my Quake2 / Unreal Tournament clan days.

Will you be organising the tournament afterwards, putting everyone into brackets? Or is it just going to be randomly picking who plays who?

After we clear out the interested yet unwilling, brackets could work.

Im open to suggestions on how we proceed after the first round is finished.

Post your suggestions here and we can vote on it. I just didn't want to make it too complicated and lose players who aren't willing to play a month long tourney.

EDIT: i misunderstood what brackets are, we can do a double elimination bracket like this one: http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?...2004.png&gwp=8

EDIT2: if we do the double elimination bracket we can change it so that the first round was just the first set of matches and take it from there, this will mean that losers of the first round have another chance. I am going to wait till I have the results of the first round so that I actually know what matches took place and who didn't bother to play their matches before i set it up.

Here is an example of the double elimination brackets
    http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=128191

I can enter the results on there and it will update the brackets, it will be quite easy to organize it this way.

We need to do the first round to remove the people who said that they'd play but wont.

After that we can just do normal brackets.

these HU matches are downright impossible to do. me and dsax ended up trying the 50 hu matches so we werent playing som random shmuck but then i ended up playing a random shmuck ..... underolled. So we tried playing the match at the penny tables but it just wasnt the same (having 250bb with stationary blinds). So just put down dsax as the winner unless you have a better way of doing these matches

I've been concerned about this... I have pretty meager bankroll and would like to make it last.. I really don't want to spend $20-40 trying to get on the same table as the guy I'm supposed to play with. As previously mentioned, I'm not too hot at these... and I don't really enjoy playing.

You know what? It's not that hard

Arkana and I managed it, although there were 2 fuckups (both my fault)

If both of you are looking at the right part of the table list when a table comes up its easy. The hard part is keeping that part of the list on your screen because it can jump about a bit.

We are pleased to extend you the ability to post your own regular "private tournaments" to the PokerStars lobby. Your account has been updated so that you may now do so.

Tournaments you deploy will have a "standard structure", 1500 starting chips and 15 minute rounds, with the same structure as a sit and go event of the same type.

We recommend tournaments be deployed several days prior to their start times for best turnout, though we can run events on as little as 60 minutes notice.
I can set up private games, PM if you need to set up a private game (give me at least a day notice).

Its actually a private HU matches MTT, but if only 2 people join then its exactly the same as a sit and go (except of course that the match starts at a predefined time).

gabe vs gorilla, 4 November at 15:00

I will PM you two the password, please don't pass it on because if more than two people join then it will be a waste.

Concerning setting matches up this way... Isn't each pair supposed to be playing a best 2 out of 3 series? Can you do this setting up one private MTT to be used only by 2 players?

It is best out of 3 so that means I will have to set up a crap load of matches. Its probably best that you guys see if you can't find a way to play your matches (on a different site or a bigger buyin or something). Me and silent7 managed to do it, its not that difficult if you do the $10 buyin ones, you just wait for one to fill up and take the new one as soon as it appears.

I set up this one for a500lbgorilla and gabe so they can try it out and see how it works, we can probably do the final this way since there might be a a lot of people who want to watch.
  55. #130
Given the scheduling issues I'm having anyway combined with the difficulty people are seeing in actually playing their opponent, I'm going to forgo this... Mark Rocky down as the winner for our match.
    I run a training site...

Check out strategy videos at GrinderSchool.com, from $10 / month.

Aces and I set ours up tonite on Pokerroom. Bodog also fills up faily slow on the 5 and 10 dollar HU tables., but you start with only 1000 chips.
The main issue is finding a site the two players have in common, but if you have Neteller or Paypal its really quick to set up a new account at either of these and the minimum deposit is like 10 dollars.
  57. #132
    An idea:
just go to yahoo and create a private table. If you want to put money on the outcome, agree to a player-to-player transfer amout.

oh and courtiebee you ready? I'm thinking $5

I guess my weakness for HU was giving up on hands too easily. And always feeling like gabe might have had a small piece somewhere. Every time I raised, gabe just thought.. and called, it seemed. So I kinda gave up on betting at him.

The hand where I think I lost this one was here I folded to his big river raise. Making my bet, I knew I would call a gabe-raise but sorta decided that if he makes a huge raise, it's probably not a bluff.

I really think a better plan going into the match would be "neither of you ever have anything. Put him to the test."

I gave up way too easily in too many spots. But I guess that's why I don't play HU.

Also, dunno where to get the bodog HH but I decided to play a lot more passively and just try to snap off gabe getting aggressive. I tried to bluff at one of his overbets that he liked to make, thinking they would be more frequently bluffs since I was instafolding to them prior.

LeFou and I just finished attempting to play. We both had to play 2 random people on stars before we finally got on the same table, it took forever to get one match done. I took the first one, but he had to go (on a date heheheh ) after we were done. So we will put it in your hands! We have up to 2 more matches to play tomorrow, but if you want results in today, then we won't play them and leave it as a best out of one. Let us know.

I swear you said previously that we could have until Sunday...my 'results' are already in, but this change just seems odd.

Can you make a separate sticky with the brackets and results? This thread is kind of cluttered!

    Thanks,

Yeah sorry, I wanted to put up the list of new matches today but I will do it tomorrow so you guys can still play today and send me the results.
