Default Common spot, 1 pair raised on the flop by a reg

    Example:

I Open AhAc on HJ, get called by a (def. general 24/20) regular in BB (100bb stacks)

Flop: 9h6h3d I cbet 5bb into 7.5bb, get raised to 15bb (I`m out of position)

    * 3Bing the flop is possible, but lets say i choose not to fold/3Bet, i call.

Turn: 7s (how it changes if blank/King comes?) I check, he bets ~24bb into ~34bb pot)

    I - ?

    1) what things should consider generally in this common tought spot with 1 pair?
    2) On the flop/turn/river? Should I Cbet-fold here? Should i Cbet-3Bet? Should I Cbet-call and elaborate (Planning to ch-shove some turns, ch-fold some turns, ch-call some turns???)
    3) What shouldi be looking in villian? (what if thats a fish i have no hands on?) What if its more aggro/less aggro reg?
    4) How does it change if i Have JJ? A9s?

    thx

generally you want to call and re-evaluate against regs. sucks to be oop though.

some factors that are important: how strong is his preflop calling range, what is his overall aggression level, how have you seen him play sets/flush draws etc in the past.

one thing i would say you can somewhat generalize is that if people are bluffing/semi bluffing they usually barrel once/twice but not three times. so say you call flop, turn doesnt seem super scary, you call turn, and river he shoves it's generally less likely he's bluffing you - he probably knows you have a pretty strong hand in this spot.

These spots only suck if you can't fold lol. My thinking on this is as follows: if we put villain on a range based on what we know about him (which could be nothing yet) then these decisions are a lot easier...what do you beat vs what beats you, how much equity u have vs that range etc. This is probably captain obvious stuff and I'm being a tard posting this in a room for advanced players, but it surely can only come down to this? I put the question mark because I am genuinely querying this, not trying to be a smartass or anything.

Also bspahn, if I ever have the fortune to sit at the same table as you, I'll definitely be barrelling two streets and shoving the river often lopl

You can't raise from the HJ and get called by the BB then be out of position to this type of raise on the flop

in a co vs button matchup here against any competent reg AA is part of my uber-nuts range and I'm happily 3-betting and getting it in or at the very least certainly not folding. If he has one of the 9 set combos so be it but his range is (or should be) much, much wider than that.

sticking with the overriding theme of the thread, a more marginal 1p type hand like JJ becomes more difficult. it's hard to say in isolation beyond 'it depends' and in general you're not always going to play these spots perfectly; you just have to play them better than your opponents would.

Knowing 2 things solves these hands for you:

    1. Knowing opponent's cold-calling range from whatever position they are in.
    2. Knowing how often your opponent raises the flop OR (even better) knowing with what hand strengths an opponent raises a cbet from a player of your playing style.

If I were you I would think about having this information in my HUD.
