any time through out history or into the future, also, let's say you're 25years old the entire time
can your 70 years be cut short?
too many variables I guess, just pick a 70year stretch where you would have liked to seen 1st hand what the fuck went on
Unfortunately, I think it's a distinct possibility, although I wouldn't say it's a forgone conclusion or even likely. It would take something very large (astroid impact, massive nuclear war) or very small (runaway nanotechnology, genetically engineered super-virus) to do it. And if it does happen, I bet it will be the latter.Quote:

Has anyone read Physics of the Impossible?

to answer the question, Spenda, I don't know which 70 years I'd want to live during, but I know it'd be in the past. I'd want to be around for some of history's biggest moments, just traveling the globe and watching stuff....I'm not sure if I'd fuck with anything and change history, but it'd be neat to be able to see the things I teach on a daily basis firsthand.
I'd rather see some of history's biggest moments of the future

Something like Apocalypto, just not during a time or in a place of that kind of oppression. Living a simple life, in a simple tribe, with a simple family, and simple pleasures has got to be better than anything anybody could ask for
isnt the world supposed end dec 31st 2012?
i think it wont last that long if we keep screwing up our enviroment
As for what life is going to be like in the year 4000
If humans aren't extinct it will be because AI didn't ever feel like acquiring our resources at the cost of our lives. Nobody can even come close to predicting the characteristics of AI, however. Humans will be cyborgs though. Perhaps not all humans. It's entirely possible that there will still be a huge enough gap between rich and poor.
There will be no galactic travel. Physics just don't allow it; time, space, energy, etc constraints. At the very least there will be some habitation on the Moon and Mars, and probably some attempts to terraform that went awry. Terraforming is theoretically possible, but economically ridiculous, and I think it's a several thousand year process. Instead of terraforming, space life would involve elaborate ship-biospheres. This is also economically ridiculous, but is what would happen if Earth was no longer a viable place to live. Colonizing other planets isn't much of an option because finding the perfect one and getting there would be silly when we could just live in a biosphere, not to mention that a planet good enough for humans will also have its own indigenous life which we would have to largely destroy if we were to take up residence
We will likely have discovered many strains of life in our solar system, but the xtians will ignore it like they ignore everything
Science will be pretty much figured out. There are always things we won't figure out, but the more nuanced those things are, the more impractical to our lives they become. We may not know what's outside of the Universe, but that won't change any of our practical tech. The entire human body will likely be understood. We will be somewhat ageless, disease-free, and super smart simply by manipulating genes and hybridization with machines.
Hopefully sometime before then they'll have good enough sex-bots so I don't have to put up with dumb bitches playing their dumb games thinking they're doing anybody a favor
Or everything will be for naught due to global warming. Logistically speaking, we are going to contact catastrophe; we just don't know exactly how bad it's going to be. I personally think that if we're unable to develop extremely powerful tech to actively suck GHG from the atmosphere and oceans, we will eventually reduce in population size by >80%, but possibly even >99%. People don't realize that Venus is the way it is due to climate and geography, it was once similar to Earth, and it's not impossible for Earth to go in a similar direction. In Earth's history, it's been both a snowball and a ball of noxious gas, and I think that we're going to find that the logistics of suddenly releasing GHG that has been gradually stored over hundreds of millions of years is going to create another one of those extremes if we're not able to turn it around via artificial sequestration
you worry me sometimes wuf.. like in a "oh man, hes gonna find himself a nice perch in a clocktower one of these days.."
his manifesto will be 1,000+ pages

'Cause I can't sleep I just invented a new game, called Holding My Drink Bottle Above My Mouth So The Water Drips into My Mouth Then Moving my Drink Bottle Progressively Higher and Higher So It Becomes Harder To Still Accurately Drip.
My face and pillow are quite covered in water.

haha that's incredible!
Why is joining the army, marines, etc, treated as the most honorable thing you can possibly do? It confuses the hell out of me when people default to "thanks for serving our country!" or "I'm proud of you!" A kid I know posted a pic of himself on fb in Iraq and it was flooded with these phrases.
Also I wonder what percentage of people join to "serve our country" compared to "free college". Probably something like 5 - 95, but I'm just making a guess.

According to the definition of propaganda, one of the factors in influencing a populous to do what you want is instilling unnecessary patriotism. The political right wing has been doing this at their best for quite some timeQuote:

I don't see anything about a lawsuit in the link, only a restraining order. Depending on the specific circumstances, it could actually be pretty reasonable.Quote:
