Anywho, I was eating breakfast and noticed that Heinz (the ketchup) is a Canadian product.
Boycott Heinz?
Heinz is a Pittsburgh company.

Is it sad that I may watch wrestling again tonight? Bret Hart back in the WWF and Hulk Hogan on TNA. Add Kevin Nash to the TNA lineup...and I'm watching...sadly.
Boog, search HULU for "South Park", episode titled "W.T.F."...watch it.
Then you will know how sad it is :(
Yes, that is sad
Doubt you saw the recent Strikeforce Evolution (which was awesome), or the K1 2009 GP (also very awesome), or 2009 Dynamite, or recent WECs
Find stream of those online before watching more Fakesies McFakersucks
Watching Aoki break arms, Aldo break faces, Fedor break souls, Hari break gameplans, and Jacare break out a clinic is infinitely better than watching guys audition for Idiocracy 2
After seeing a few mma fights I could never go back to pro wrestling.
Also, day 2 of not smoking ftw. I feel pretty positive right now.

And when thunderf00t showed up looking homeless. I just can't watch him make Dawkins sit on a leopard print couch cover.
How do you not shave for Dawkins!
hah tf00t is awesome. he sounds like an arrogant prick and looks like a hobo, yet is pretty smart and probably charismatic and docile in person

I haven't had a drink all year. I'm looking to set a record for consecutive times DDing.
i quit quit 8 years ago... and still have regular cravings to smoke. Usually anything over a month is pretty solid... and 3 months is likely good to go. It requires encountering and subsequently overcoming nearly every situation and instance where you would normally smoke and choosing NOT to smoke. And that takes awhile.Quote:

I think I was lucky to quit before the "hardwired for life" point. Ive smoked two cigarettes since quitting about 3 1/2 years ago. Both were on separate occasions with long time friends who both smoke. Both times we were having pretty deep long convos and I was definitely drunk. In my mind I thought me smoking (they know I quit long ago) was kind of like passing the peace pipe with them. I did not inhale and kinda just puffed and exhaled real fast. Double edged sword. While I would never recommend anyone get married before they are 30 without a good education behind them and a career on track, the main benefit of starting a family in your early twenties like I did is that your kids are out of the house while you're still young and healthy enough to enjoy life. I know a number of people my age who are still dealing with daycare and getting kids to soccer practice while the biggest thing I have to negotiate with my sons is who's buying the next round.Quote:

If you haven't donated yet to the cause and you haven't done so yet, you can do so on PokerStars. If you go to the special tab of tournaments, you'll be able to register for tournaments of varying buyins, and this money is being donated to the Red Cross. PS is matching all donations.
you can also just make a direct transfer to "Haiti Fund" for whatever amount.Quote:

I've decided to start crossing my Z's, 0's, and 7's when I write them out. Pretty baller imo.
I start a new contract in Gainesville next week, so it looks like I'll have to start wearing pants and shaving again after a nice 2 month break.
Crossing Z's and 7's is so win. Crossing 0's is kinda gay tho.
I cross my 7's always, and my zeros only if they are in combination with letters where they could be confused for O's. I never cross my z's.
I don't cross my 7s, I only sometimes cross my zeros like boost, and I always cross my Zs. I think I cross my Z because it looks like a 2 otherwise.
we should totally copulate.Quote:

watched all of the liberia section...pretty hard to believe. just finished the one about north korea and wow was that weird/freaky
I started crossing my 0's when necessary when I was probably 7 or 8 and had started programming enough to need to know the difference when I wrote things down. I started crossing my 7's and Z's around age 23 in a complex analysis class because my instructor told us to. The habit sort of stuck.

Keep in mind that they're still not showing/seeing the worst. The worst is so bad that people literally would not stomach it. People like us don't understand exactly how evil humans are, and how much many suffer. It may sound weird when I say that mass extinction of the race would be fantastic, but it's true. It's not a fun thing to think about, but I don't give a shit since it's about a billion times worse to experience actual misery
I don't think that the race will become extinct though. This is sobering and frightening to me since the ability to suffer is going to skyrocket almost infinitely. We like to think that things eventually work out, but reality is that things do not exist because they're good or bad, but because they can. If you think people are suffering now, just wait until science eliminates aging. It's one thing for a woman to be born into enslaved prostitution, but it's another unfathomably terrible thing for that woman to be genetically modified for that purpose and to virtually live forever
If I were given the option to press a button that would explode the Earth, I would do so without an instance of hesitation. No matter how happy I may be with my life, I cannot ignore the reality of the pure horribleness of our highly refined species. It's easy to think something doesn't exist when that something is kept out of sight and has no voice. The story of Omelas has no greater relevance
Speaking of people not being able to stomach the truth and doing their damnedest to ignore it, an article I'm reading about NK prison camps put up a video of said prison camp footage on youtube, buuuuuuuuuuut mysteriously that video has been taken down......
I don't think the snippets you see of life in Liberia are impossible to understand nor do I think those same snippets demonstrate the "evil" of man. The context of living in that place, of rape, drugs and poverty, a septic environment, would be overwhelming.
I read 'The Tipping Point' by Malcolm Gladwell (Caldwell?) where he talks about NYC cleaning up it's streets by cleaning up graffiti, fixing broken windows and enforcing the small laws. By creating an environment where all the little things are kept in order, it has the affect of keeping the big crimes in order (driving down theft, rape and murder).
Liberia is the opposite end of the coin, an entire populace stands literally in streets of it's own excrement, and children are told that the blood of the innocent protects them from ubiquitous gun-fire. These people aren't evil, rather, they're living in Liberia.
As for pressing the easy button to explode our world, I also read something about the bottlenecking in the human genome; how humans were almost extinct once before. I see a few reasons why it would be a bad thing, but I don't know that I wouldn't secretly welcome it. From the grave, of course, no way am I surviving any hardships.
I mean 'evil' as a happenstance. You can make an argument that no human is inherently evil, but the effects of collective actions still result in evil. It's not about one individual's actions (which are unwittingly almost entirely dependent upon others' actions), but about the collection of all actions creating a society with 'necessary' evil.
The NYC clean up is an example that cannot be applied across the board. We have literally zero evidence that the whole of human society doesn't require a bottom rung of suffering populace. NYC is far from this bottom rung. The rule of thumb here is that good reform doesn't happen until those with power feel the pain (which correlates nicely with any NYC clean up), but if society doesn't require that powerful people permeate its entirety, then there will remain unreformed pockets
Honestly, I think that the societies we have are exemplary of what we are as a species and our interactions with our environments. I don't think that Africa is a forgotten continent with mass suffering because we're 'doing things wrong', I think it's because we're doing things the way that comes natural according to our biology and environment (which is the only way possible).
A lot of this can be tied into my comments on agriculture from a while ago. One example is that with a society built upon agriculture, things like prisons become necessary at some point. No one person is at fault, what is at fault is simply the nature of things, and that nature can be pretty horrible
All the bad in the world isn't some kind of anomaly. The simple fact that something happens is in itself evidence that that something is natural and carries with it a statistical probability. Create a perfect model of the Universe, run it an infinite amount of times, and we'll find that we've created an infinite number of North Koreas, an infinite numbers of raped children, an infinite number of tortured prisoners, an infinite number of beaches full of feces, etc
Edit to add: Frighteningly enough, infinity may be how the whole of existence actually works. Scary thought that infinite suffering may just be standard
i feel this thread bottlenecking
Im not even a big fighting game fan, but this is fucking awesome..

death is neutral ev. you can expect nothing good and nothing bad. if you are dealt 87o utg and decide to play it, you are making a negative ev decision. folding is neutral, thus the winningest play. therefore, if your life is representative of 87o utg, death seems to be the optimal route. my friends, i have been dealt 87o utg. maybe 9To on a good day.
So you're dying? Also, I could probably name a few people who expect death to lead to a +EV heaven or +EV harem of virgins.

I'm not sure what his real agenda is. It appears that he's just naturally a nice guy, is trying to keep enough of the corporate money on his side so he can win reelection, and doesn't want to get down and dirty due to the havoc that could create. Most liberals are displeased with Obama because they want another Carter, except they don't realize that if he would indeed be another Carter and would effectively get nowhere and possibly allow the country to get even more soured
Or it is possible that he's about as corrupt as they come, and is playing this game so he can get his. I doubt that, but it's possible. Either way, speeches don't tell you shit. Just follow the money, the logic, and the history; that's what tells truth.
*I add congressional because according to Eisenhower's daughter, that was the original phrase of his speech

all this talk of death and suffering is making me a little depressed.
i just ate a big plate of chicken creole and i'm going to play volleyball in an hour or so. i'm leaving for NYC tomorrow to see my gf and it's going to be a weekend full of boozing, eating, sight-seeing, and sexing. i can't wait.
unlike wufwugy, i'm looking forward to science discovering anti-aging so i can live forever. something will probably get screwed up along the way but oh well, i'm still holding out hope.

I've seen one estimate that predicts it in some form in only a decade, and Ray Kurzweil thinks that medical technology is improving so quickly we're currently able to extend lives longer than those lives age. So basically if you can just keep from dying today, technology exists to extend your life slightly longer than a day, until eventually actual anti-aging is discovered. Kurzweil has been really right about some things, but also has some weird ideas
I remember watching a doc about a year ago that claimed that anti-aging medicine is to a point where they've successfully injected rodents with a formula that apparently reorganized/regenerated the tissue from old into young
wtffffffffffffff is this
http://www.lolgifs.com/pictures/668fbd71d5275d0.gif
Kurzweil is very good. Another guy I like as a futurist is Michio Kaku. He's not into anti-aging that I'm aware of but he has a realy strong understanding beyond concepts that can/will drive future technologies. There are going to be some pretty remarkable technologies in the future and along the same line you're getting at, they are going to come a lot sooner than people realize.Quote:
