If you want to get into running, go for a walk. Even a brisk walk won't stimulate aerobic adaptations in fit people but it might in beginners. If nothing else, it starts to condition the feet, ankles, knees, etc. When a 45 minute brisk walk is no longer challening, and it really shouldn't be, work in some intermittent jogging. A lot of runners are overtrained/chronically injured and it often comes down to some combination of too much, too fast, and/or too soon. Some people just don't do well with it at all (especially those who are overweight), nothing wrong with using some other modality instead.
