Dear Flying Spaghetti Monster, I don't ask you for much, but it's my birthday tomorrow and what I'd really really like is a big fat fuck off dumping of snow. Pleeeeeeease.
I need prior notice of snow so I can park half way up a hill leaving it impossible for me to move my car, no traction to go up, to dangerous and slippery to reverse down, therefore can't drive to work = day of building inappropriate snowmen on the beach and sledding in the snowy sand dunes.
calling places on the phone is a source of massive anxiety for me.
Places? What, like say a restaurant or hotel or something?
My tooth is killing me. The whole side of my mouth is throbbing in pain because of it. This has happened once before, it seems to have to do with barometer swings. I have access to Xanax and Vicodin, but I'm really afraid of those things.
I pretty much need a root canal and all that, but I do not have dental insurance, and likely will not have it for years to come. This sucks :(
Are you near a college with a dentistry school? Very cheap, best option on the table imo.
List of dental schools in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Man, I'm really sorry. I don't know what to say; you can get it pulled for much cheaper, but that sucks as an option
I had a cavity eventually turn into an exposed nerve, sensitivity to hot/cold, gradual increase in pain and jaw tightness, then I eventually couldn't sleep and started putting pressure on it, which snapped into full blown toothAIDS. I have never experienced a more debilitating pain
Canal's are really rough on the pocketbook, but I bet you can find a dentist who does payment plans
FWIW, my root canal took away one primary causes of migraines, and I stopped getting headaches from consuming alcohol. Teeth are so important, but when they go bad, man do they ever go bad
I really hope you can get this fixed
I feel you man. 2 summers ago I started having hideous pain in response to cold in one of my molars. By the end of that year it turned into just hideous pain where I couldn't sleep or really function usefully at all. I ended up getting a root canal done (with no insurance, and without much poker income this year...) and that failed. The pain came back and within a couple weeks may have been even worse than before (this time around, heat especially triggered it, very odd.) They ended up pulling it and I got an implant put in its place. All in all I'm happy with it but it was murder on the checking account, even getting a couple breaks, and I'm pretty sure I had as many dental appointments as I would want for the next couple decades.
Which tooth is bothering you?
How much does root canal treatment cost you guys? It's like 50 quid on the nhs.
50 quid plus the cost of Socialism.
Yeah, that's true. And it takes ages to drink away that awful feeling of helping those less fortunate than you.
Ouch. I can get a molar removed and a bridge put in for 10% of that.
The more I think about this the crazier it seems. It's something that can leave someone in agony, something that is rediculously easy and quick to fix, something that can and most likely eventually will effect anyone and everyone. How can a wealthy country withhold such a basic servie from a (I'm assuming) large proportion of it's citizens? It's rediculous. But make sure the chicken you eat is free range, right.
You gotta love the NHS:
NHS dental charges
There are three NHS charge bands.
- Band 1: £17 includes an examination, diagnosis and advice. If necessary, it also includes X-rays, a scale and polish and planning for further treatment.
- Band 2: £47 includes all treatment covered by Band 1, plus additional treatment, such as fillings, root canal treatment and removing teeth (extractions).
- Band 3: £204 includes all treatment covered by Bands 1 and 2, plus more complex procedures, such as crowns, dentures and bridges.

If dental work is so cheap, why do brits have such bad teeth in stereotype?
Also, I have dental insurance which is insanely cheap as compared to my normal medical insurance. I've yet to use it though but if it's anything like eye insurance, the savings is very good.

Well, firstly we think that perfectly straight teeth is a rediculous overkill.
Secondly, your dentists charge 2k for fillings. How much for braces? SO the question isn't why are British teeth bad, but rather how much of an incentive does an American dentist have to convince you thast your teeth should be perfectly straight?
It's spelled RIDICULOUS
GAHHH!!!
Living language. It'll be spelled rediculous in 100 years imo.

Meh, drugs whose sole purpose is to simulate pleasure are not my cup of tea.
The pleasure isn't simulated. It's very, very real.
In general, I don't understand people who won't try drugs. I can understand not doing it regularly or even only trying it once. I don't take any drugs except alcohol these days. But how are people not curious? Just for the experience if nothing else.
Ireland 3/1 to beat france with Bet365 this afternoon. Did anyone see Tonga destroy them? Value bet of the year so far
I don't want condone the use of cocaine in a social environment. Well I do but that's another subject. But if you're considering using a synthetic substance such as Vicodin to ease the pain then why wouldn't a natural pain reliever not be a better choice?
Poison? Oozing? Yes.
You should google it or something but the jist is it can cause infection that can seep down thru your jaw and into your bloodstream, eventually getting to your heart and killing you. I think that's pretty rare but there's plenty of bad shit that can happen before you get to that extreme. I there's any inflammation in your gum it's infected. If you can taste a light bitterness around it that's poison, which you're swallowing and allowing into your stomach.
Toothache is a horrible pain. Once it reaches a certain level, it's all consuming. You can see how all those crazy ideas of doors and string came about. I'm sure with a bit of googling you'll find someone who has had a go at removing their own teeth with some needle nose pliers. I'd take any drungs I could get my mits on to stop that pain. Not sure about the US, but over here you can get codein over the counter (co-codamol I think) which will at the very least take the edge off. But either way, you're gonna have to get it taken care of properly. Never mind poisen, the pain would be unbearable and you'd be suicidal long before you need to worry about poisen.
lol, a few years ago I pulled some neighbor kids tooth out with a fishing line tied to the back of my motorcycle.
I guess I worded that poorly. What I meant is, I'm not interested in drugs whose intrinsic value is to cause pleasure. Especially extremely powerful drugs which create unnatural levels for pleasure. I am happy with my pleasure spectrum of 1-100. I don't want to experience 1000 if the only way to experience 1000 again is through drug use.
The drugs I am interested in could possibly give sensations of pleasure, but it is not their sole purpose. Hallucinogenics fascinate me, because they offer an experience, not just a good feeling.
Not sure if this ramble has made much sense, but I think a very clear distinction can be made between pleasure drugs and experience drugs. If I am going to take drugs at all, I prefer the latter.
p.s. DanAronG, would you try crack? Inject heroin? I often can't understand why people won't try different foods, which I think is an understandable lack of understanding. But not being able to grasp why a person wouldn't want to try a drug whose effects and side effects are well documented, I cannot understand that lack of understanding.
I wouldn't try either now. But I prob would have smoked smack and crack and prob ice too if the opportunity had been there when I did such things. Of course it depends on the circumstances and I'm not advocating running out into a dodgy area trying to score some smack because you feel you've missed out. But if I was with some firends and the opportunity presented itself in a safe and comfortable environment I prob would have done it. That said, I wouldn't have jacked up but I don't think it is a necessity of the experience.
To be fair I made a sweeping statement that I don't actually believe myself, but the principle of the argument is not being curious about new things. Of course this has its limits. But I guess once you are a drug user and have experienced some of the wonderful thrills and experiences drugs have to offer, it seems odd that you wouldn't want to experience more.
Take MDMA or similar drugs. You could argue that they simply give you fake pleasure in terms of how they interact with your brain. But that doesn't sum up the experience. Taking MDMA with a group of good friends including a giril you are close with and boning, partying for a few hours, experiencing that strange closeness it creates with all of the group and then sharing it with a girl and then having sex with her is a pretty amazing experience and not one to be missed.
Ya, the MDMA scenario you describe is definitely intriguing. But at the same time I'm not really sure I want to head down that path. Having a co-conspirator makes doing things you deem to be wrong or bad very easy. In other words, breaking habits is very hard, but breaking shared habits is almost impossible without breaking off the relationship itself.
So pretty much my counter argument is that I am extremely fearful of dependency, as I have seen it's impact on many people first hand (lol anecdotal supporting evidence.) My fear of being enslaved by a substance is far greater than my curiosity regarding drugs. On top of that I simply am not all that curious about the type of drugs that predominantly offer pleasure as opposed to an experience.
Dude, as a fellow man, I strongly recommend trying the mdma thing with a chick, but it has to be one you are comfortable with. It truly is an experience you can't have without the use of drugs and there is something about the closeness you feel at the time, a sense of togetherness, a sense of feeling the moment, that truly is special. Just touching each others skin feels amazing, like you are some how connected. I'm confident you'd be glad you did and it is in no way addictive and nor would your relationship start to rely on it unless you do it all the time which just kills it anyway. Methodrome will work too but has horrible side effects where as mdma leaves you tired and a bit distant (similar to acid/mushies) but nothing more.
In fact, I would say the bonding feeling associated with mdma is arguably better than the effect of how it makes you feel music, although its close.
ya, I mean, I'll keep that in mind. The idea of sharing something like that with someone is pretty cool. Kinda like the "oneness" or loss of ego that can come from psychedelics.
Man, if you have a good starting point, wikisurfing is fucking awesome.
Here's a pretty interesting article on drug policy. This David Nutt guy seems like a champ.
Addiction Journal
A quote of his from the wiki page on MDMA
Quote:
The general public, especially the younger generation, are disillusioned with the lack of balanced political debate about drugs. This lack of rational debate can undermine the trust in government in relation to drug misuse and thereby undermining the government's message in public information campaigns. The media in general seem to have an interest in scare stories about illicit drugs, though there are some exceptions (Horizon, 2008).[89] A telling review of 10-year media reporting of drug deaths in Scotland illustrates the distorted media perspective very well (Forsyth, 2001).[90] During this decade, the likelihood of a newspaper reporting a death from paracetamol was in [sic] per 250 deaths, for diazepam it was 1 in 50, whereas for amphetamine it was 1 in 3 and for ecstasy every associated death was reported.
David Nutt is an absolute legend when it comes to drugs, although it shouldn't be necessary to say that, considering that he, er, does scientific studies and forms evidence-based views based on their outcome.
I've been taking MDMA on average once a month over the past year, and, as long as it's not overdone, I really don't consider it a dangerous drug. The high has always been great, and the comedowns controlled and expected. I've had too much a couple of times and blacked out, but apparently on those nights I've just ended up making lots of friends and saying some surreal stuff every so often. I appreciate your point, boost, about the pleasure spectrum, however you pay for the 4-5hr serotonin rush over the next couple of days and definitely know about it too, a standard Sunday comedown will normally consist of fatigue, lack of drive and nausea and if I've had a lot on Saturday I'll tend to be a bit nervous and paranoid on Monday/Tuesday too. It's the drugs that don't hit you the morning after, like cocaine, which are the biggest cause for concern IMO.
Just out of curiosity, what's the drug scene like in the States? If you go to a dance club here in Leeds you can expect the majority of patrons to be on something, mostly MDMA, X, mephedrone or any combination of the former.
Oh, and: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...endence%29.svg
Not too sure about the drug scene in the states other than the Republican Party's addiction to smack
The truth is far more dynamic than that. Drugs have been shown to have profound effects on human happiness and well-being. Psilocybin, for example, is probably about 100x more powerful in fighting depression than the money-making schemes of pharmaceutical companies, but don't tell that to people who wish to control societies and economies.
People make a mistake by boxing humans up into little structures and pieces, and don't realize that the personal and social value of drugs like DMT, psychadelics, hormone replacement, etc are off the charts.
Our culture's drugs are about control and productivity. Nothing makes good little robots like caffeine, alcohol, and zoloft. And nothing makes people who understand that love and peace saves the world than DMT and LSD and peyote and marijuana
holy shit... I heard "frontier psychiatrist" a while back, but never looked any deeper into The Avalanches. They lay down some sick tracks, and have even more impressive music videos.

Defo, you don't wanna be gettin it on while you're rushing, but much later when you're tired and lazy.
Avalanches are wonderful, if any of you can be bothered to search, look for their Radio 1 Breezeblock session and download it, it's magical.
Here's another beauty from them... Electricity
my isp sent me a letter today regarding my illegal torrenting.
fuck right off imo
Is it that simple for them to know exactly what files you are dling via torrents? Ie can they know for certain it is an illegal file?
umm panic.
filesharing is legal. shows how much money rules society in something that is strongly designated as legal is still being used to punish people
I've never gotten one of these letters.
I've never really done much to protect myself from being detected. No peerblock/proxies/w/e. Maybe I should be more careful?
umm. yeah def panicking now -.-
pretty sure you can do fine if ur on a private tracker
the threatening to sue is more what im panicing about
what isp? scan and post the letter imo.
They are just trying to get you to stop, right? Then just stop... Seems simple enough?
