Charlie'$ Phat Poker Operation
G'day mates, i'm Charlie, I grind 2NL Hold'em and am slowly building my bankroll. This is a space for me to look at my thematic hands and reflect on them, think out-loud, watch any progression... And anything else I want, what of it? I'm always happy for players to critique my hands and I actually would really appreciate any guidance people can give if they got some time and wanna help a brutha out.
First thing I’m beginning to notice is that playing reasonably tight ABC poker without doing anything tricky is winning at this level. I’ve also noticed there is a tendency for players to call overbets, and I am making more money by betting more than I think is appropriate.
Anyway, first hand of hopefully many, the theme today being protection:
Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.02 BB (6 handed) - Full Tilt Converter Tool from http://www.flopturnriver.com/
UTG ($2.52)
Hero (MP) ($1.31)
CO ($3.19)
Button ($0.98)
SB ($0.97)
BB ($1.90)
Preflop: Hero is MP with K:spade:, K:club:
UTG calls $0.02, Hero raises to $0.12, 2 folds, SB calls $0.11, 1 fold, UTG calls $0.10
Preflop raise was a bit exaggerated…I was fairly sure someone would call though, that seemed to be the happening thing at this table...loose and passive, just the way I like 'em.
Flop: ($0.38) 5:heart:, 8:heart:, 9:heart: (3 players)
I put SB range around: {99+, AT+,A9s, KJ+,KTs,QJ,JTs,T9s} (128/1081) at this stage and
UTG (who was playing preeetty loose) at: {TT-22, A2+, KT+,K8s+,QT+, JT, 54s+} (312/1081)
SB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $0.38, 2 folds
I wonder if this was a good bet. It was a protective bet, I wanted to make it unprofitable for them to call with flush draws. Looking at what I think they would consider calling with (remaining flush draws, sets etc.) I think SB had about 63/1081 combos (range equity at 12.90% vs KK) with which he may call or raise and UTG had around 104/1081 hands to call/raise (range equity 35.16% vs KK). I haven't provided the actual ranges I put them on because they are too annoying to reformat out of equilab.
I bet 38c into a 38c pot. So for either of them to get good odds individually, they will be investing 38c into 76c pot: 38/(38+76) = 33%.
SB is not in a good position to call with his range...UTG's equity is 35% so he is in a position to justifiably call/raise.
I have a feeling my raise was about right though (maybe it should have been slightly larger?). If he calls he is justified, but I still am winning here 65% of the time, so this also serves as a reasonable value bet.
Total pot: $0.38 (You read right. 38 big ones.) | Rake: $0.01
