Here is how it went down between sshefri and eberetta1...

MeGrimlock gets really lucky v. Ducktollinggrinder by (77 points).
*Also ...noticed something that might need to be amended.
If we play an "odd" number of games (35) ...then one player is going to have the advantage of being dealer first.
I would always invite my opponent into the room I set up in order to have this advantage.
It might be a trivial thing ...but I think we should make it an "even" set of hands to avoid this issue.
Perhaps making it (36) will be a quick fix since only 4 matches have been played.
Is it always the case that whoever sits down first gets the button first?
While there is an advantage to the player who goes first, if the button is randomly given to player 1 or 2 at the beginning of the round, then there's no way for a player to take advantage.
Nonetheless, I see that there is an edge and that an even number of rounds removes that edge.
I don't want to change the rules unless there is a group consensus.

Thoughts from other players is requested.

Looks like sshefri beat eberetta1 by 46.
i vote making it 36 rounds.
I have 3 votes for changing it to 36 round matches instead of 35 rounds. There are 16 players at this point, so I'd like to hear from a few more before I switch it.
I have added the following to the rules of the round robin:
"If someone fails to show for a match, and hasn't made contact with myself or their opponent, then both players will be awarded 0 points, and the no-show will be DQ's from the round robin."
It is now in the OP.

The registrations seem to have tapered off. How does everyone feel about closing registration and starting round 2?
Can round 2 wait a day or two so grateful dead And I can get our match in?
Of course. I will (if needed) allow 2 - 3 days once registration is closed for people to schedule and complete their matches.
I am cool with 36. Not a biggie to go from 35 to 36 lol.
I have reached out to the player i am suppose to play, but haven't heard back. Are there any thoughts to a method to communicate? Perhaps scheduling the games for people in advance so everyone knows when they have to play?
I'm fine with 36 in round 2, as long as all of the remaining first-round games are played to 35. I'm also all good with closing registration and moving to round 2.
I wanna play to :-)
You're in schmondex.
OK, I'm in favor of 36 rounds in principle, but I think it's a very minor advantage. Also, in a single elimination bracket, no one ever brought it up that we should play an even number of rounds there (it was 25 in the last tournament). So I'm not sure how big a deal it really is.
My plan to deal with rule changes from now on is this:
Talk about it in the thread. If 1/3 of the registered have the same opinion and there is no dissent, then the rule changes. Otherwise, I will require a majority.
E.g. at 17 people... if there are 6 votes to switch to 36 rounds matches instead of 35, and no one says otherwise, then I'll switch it. If even one person doesn't want to change it, then I would need 9 votes to change.
***
If you sent your opponent a PM and have posted in this thread, then you've done all I can expect you to do. If you happen to have email and phone numbers exchanged, then that's a bonus. I'm not expecting anyone to communicate outside of FTR in order to schedule their matches.
I have amended the rules to explicitly deal with no-shows, and I hope everyone is following the thread throughout the event.
In short: if your opponent doesn't respond to your requests to schedule a game, then he will be disqualified from the event, and you will be awarded 0 points for this round, treating the round as a bye.
If only 1 person is communicating with me, then the other person is DQ'd if it comes to that. If both people are communicating with me, then it is highly unlikely that I will DQ anyone.
I'd much rather work with someone who is willing to work with me... That is to say: If you are being helpful as far as keeping me informed to why you are not scheduling your match, then I will do my best to be helpful and allow some extra time to you.
I agree with you Madmojomonkey. I have received correspondance with my opponent finally. We will work out our time issues (he is from Austrialia). What will be the rule of process before a DQ? Personally i would rather play that get a 0 for not being able to. Just takes away an opportunity to move up the ladder.
I'm sure we'd all rather play than take a bye, but if your opponent isn't there... what can I do?
I can penalize the no-show. The only reasonable way to do so is to DQ them, and treat the round as a bye for their opponent.
There was some behind the scenes discussion about whether to null all the scores from matches with a DQ'd player. Ultimately, it was decided that making abrupt changes to people's (already earned) scores would be a greater evil than leaving scores from a player who is no longer a valid competitor.
So the rule goes something like:
If you've earned the points, they're yours. If someone is DQ'd, they're out.
You have a good sense of humor Madmojo... :) I heard from setzy and he said he would be able to play match soon.
I joined, haha! Let's play whenever :)
count me in as well
@eberatta1 - nm, thanks!
Any word on when Round 2 will start?
You're in tedium.
Schmondex play against tedium for round 1.
Create a table and play for 35 rounds. Please post your table number (from the FTR OFC lobby) when you post the results of your match. I see that neither of you has a high enough post count to post a link, so if you tell me the table number, I can post the link for you.
Also, you both have probably not got the ability to use PM's, so post in this thread to communicate with each other to schedule your match.
@schmondex i can play tonight or tomorrow from 8pm to 11pm CET.I'll open a table, you get in and ask me for the pass.
@madmojo what time limit did you agree on?2min ot 3:30?

I have sent boxman44 a PM, as well. There's still time, but we'll be closing the registration soon, so the clock's about to start ticking.
How did you put the link in? I tried to copy and paste the URL and also using the link button and when I tried to submit it said "You are not allowed to use 'square bracket' URL 'square bracket' bbcode."
Well I made one or two bad decisions and I think it cost me the game.

Hi, It was our first round match that we were told to play from a few days ago. Hope his didn't mess things up. Here's the link.

I see in the scores for the first round it has a score already for us. We hadn't played before this game and I assume it must be another score from a different game.?.?
This isn't the link that helps. This is just a link to the now-dead table you played at.
From the OFC lobby, find the link to your game with Setzy. Then click on the R on the right. This will take you to the history. When there, copy and paste that URL and then post that in this forum. Thanks.

Here's the other link. The original link still shows amount of rounds along with score so it makes me curious to what's the difference? Is it to see how the hands played is what you want showed?
Thanks. The OP is corrected. I don't know where I came up with that other result... I thought I saw it in this thread, but now I can't find it, so ... sorry.
No one is playing round 2 matches, yet. I haven't even posted who's playing who yet. I haven't even figured it out yet with the new entries.
As soon as registration is officially re-closed, I will work out the schedule and post round 2 match-ups.
OK, late registration is officially closed.
Players have 48 hours to complete their round 1 matches. Please make sure you communicate with me if you have a reason why this is not enough time.
I will be posting round 2 matches on Saturday, March 22 at or around noonish (St Louis time).
I'm looking over the thread and (unless I'm missing something) there is a player at risk of DQ in round 1.
boxman44
If you feel this assessment is made in error, please post in this thread. I'm not trying to push anyone out. I just want to let you know that GratefulDead has posted in the thread and I've not heard from you, boxman.
I will find grateful dead online tomorrow and play
@tedium
pls post a message if you have time to play...

Round 2 match-ups are posted.
Please give me a little time to set up the tables.
I repeat DO NOT create your own tables for round 2. I will be creating tables w/ 36 rounds from now on.
OK, round 2 tables are created.
Passwords are posted in the OP with match-up assignments.
Game on!
have a look at the first post
ok for me the same ;-)
I don't know why the tables disappeared from the lobby. I'm communicating with the programmer to either find them or create new ones.
I might be able to post links to the tables in the thread, so that would be a bonus.

Wfnm1 hit me up for some open face fun!
Also, probably a dumb question, do we need to make our own table or how do we find/search that password/table that was assigned to us in the first post?

Did you read my pm?
I am playing so bad atm, it could be epic if you play me soon ;)
DuckTollingGrinder... ready for round 2 when you are. contact me
MMM I sent you a PM - when did you want to play?
In a sick game where no one led by more than 40, Boxmann44 drills 22 pt FL on round 32 to pull within 5, then takes to 3 pt lead heading into the last round. He has a very live flush draw entering the final street, but the odds were ever in my favor, Lady Luck shined on me at the end, Zeus lighting bolt was on my side, whatever your euphemism for an ending that was pretty much nothing more than pure luck as he missed the draw and fouled. Duck by 3.
Player note: we were unsure if the game was to be played 35 or 36. We both agreed that if the management/bosses in charge have already concluded that matches should be 36, that this game would include the OFC equivalent of 1972 USA V Russia with time (in this case one extra hand) added. The difference, however, is that both of us are fully accepting of whatever the administration rules, provided the decision was made entirely from a biased free interpretation of what the management has concluded in regards to 35 v 36.
Also, check out the game...down to the wire! I play it safe with a lead and four hands to go by putting QQ in back, just like a football team running up the middle 3 straight times up a score with under 2 to go. Cant post the URL apparently. 8316 is the table number.
I definitely created the tables with a 36 round match. (I had the number of rounds changed from 35 to 36 on the tournament table creation page, so 35 isn't even an option anymore.)
I'm not sure why the software stopped playing after 35 rounds. Please don't play another round for now. Let's see what happens to everyone else.
I created the tables all within a few minutes of each other, so any peculiarities with one of them should be the same for all.
We just stopped play after 35 rounds because we both interpreted the discussions on this board to be that 36-round matches were being considered but had not been approved as the official round length. I figured that you set up the matches to be an infinite # of rounds in case of Fantasy Land on the 36th round (and a lengthy stay in FL for the 37th, 38th, 39th, etc.), so that there was a 36th round that we declined to pursue was intentional on our part. The software did its job, we just stopped playing.
Definitely make it clear to the other people that 36 rounds has been definitively decided as the official round length from now on, becuase it definitely was not clear from the previous discussions as both me and Boxman came to the conclusion (entirely seperately) that it was still in deliberation, and therefore 35 rounds was still the current rule.
And let us know what you want to do about our game needing one extra round.
I'm hoping that since we'll end up playing a crapload of hands (about 600 or 17 times 36) that a missing hand here or there won't make too much of a difference. I'm cool either way (leaving it out or making it up). Remember, these first 600 or so hands are just to get ladder positions so they aren't the end of everything (there will still be opportunities to climb the ladder).
What I think will be a bigger issue is when people drop out of the league mid way through it. We decided that people who haven't yet played the people just miss out on the games. In other words, if a bad player drops out after 10 matches then the 9 people who got to play him are lucky and the 8 people he was scheduled to face miss out. I guess that is just the luck of the draw.
