How I F up.
This is an op thread about how I F things up.
My abridged poker history:
Started playing, thought I was god's gift, stopped doing other money-making things, survived longer than I should have on just poker, got humble, got a job, played some more, quit the job, struggled thru every flavor of be-a-baller ideas from short stacking to grinding up from 1/2nl at the local cardroom. I figure at some point I'll get my head out of my ass... maybe tomorrow.
-
Recently I've had a hankering for live tourneys. Why? I don't know. There's a paper trail to the mobnies, the hours suck, the regs are pretty miserable people for the most part. That said, the fields are fairly soft and none of the regs know how to correctly deal with bounties or being short stacked.
I've managed to play like garbage in these tourneys. I mean real garbage... calling ep raises w/ KJo with 3 players left to act before the blinds then calling passively on a k-high wet board. Just make-you-puke kind of stuff. Yesterday I played one where I misread a hand. I played 65 perfectly, my trip 5s got max value for sure. I had 67.
It seems to be a tourney-only issue. I play cash games for longer hours than the tourneys and don't run into these kinds of hands. I ordered an ipod from an old poker site where I had some points laying around. Maybe that will help me stay focused. I hate not hearing the talk that goes on, especially since so many of the regs tell you thier thought process, but maybe I can just use it when I start to slip a bit.

Ok so preflop I think I fold to a decent 3-bet size. While this size is giving better odds, it also usually means the villain has a big hand, and so will pay off a set much more often.
Flop: ($19.50) Ahttp://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...ilies/club.gif, 10http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...lies/spade.gif, Jhttp://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...es/diamond.gif (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $9, Hero raises $18, Button calls $9
c/f is the plan of course, but then I look at his bet size. That's not for value. Of course, my raise size blows. A stop and go here wouldn't be terribad, a bigger raise is ok, a fold is still standard, this minraise is hopeless. He timed down a little and called. Implying a pretty weak hand.
Turn: ($55.50) 6http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...es/diamond.gif (2 players)
Hero checks, Button checks
Given the action so far and my opponent's seemingly weak range, I need to rep something on the turn. I was pretty flustered because as soon as I minraised I realized how bad it was. So, I screwed down to calm down and missed a chance to turn a bad flop play into a profitable turn play.
River: ($55.50) Khttp://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...lies/heart.gif (2 players)
Hero bets $24, Button calls $24
Total pot: $103.50
The river came a decent card to bluff, until I realized he's got KK or QQ a lot of the time here...
Boy did I f that hand up.

This thread was supposed to be me making my worst moves public in order to help keep me focused and keep my ego in check, but it's the only op thread I have, so...
Today I shipped $2k in online donkament profits :)
:shipit:
-
So I made a deal with a friend where I'm playing 10k hands of 2nl to prove it's profitable... anyone want to make any winrate prop bets?
-
sure, 20ptBB/100 gogogogo
or, name your winrates/odds
-
I don't really know where to aim with winrates at .01/.02, it's not like I can ask, "what's the average reg's winrate at .01/.02?" because no one can stay there long enough to get any idea what a winning player at a higher limit might make.
anyway, here's what this thread is about:

he ran like 30/20 14%... over too small a sample set to get it in with AQo. Especially since this is from the CO, not the button, and it's FR. Man I'm bad at this game.
-
Played a session of 100nl FR and played with a player who I thought was really fishy until I noticed him on 2 more of my tables. I looked him up on PTR and found he is a .8bb/100 winner at 400nl and about the same on 100nl over decent samples. I searched for him and saw he was 16 tabling 100nl FR.
His stats on one of the tables were laggy as hell over 50ish hands, and in one pot we played he 3b, raggy flop checked thru, I bet 2/3 pot on the turn, he snap minraised and snap folded to my snap shove.
All these are against the same guy. I thought he was really fishy, but he's a winning reg. Shows what I know...

This last one bugged me because I would have folded his hand pre, and because of the flop. If he's getting value from a worse hand it can only be because I'm planning on stealing it later on. Also, he is bluffing here into a dry side pot, he has to be pretty damn sure I'm going to fold for this to be any good.

update on 2nl: running horrible and lmao about it :) tbh I am having trouble with tptk, a lot of the 2nl guys stack off so light I find myself just getting it in on the flop with tptk, good sometimes, bad sometimes, not sure if it's correct or not. I've seen enough 10-12 vpip players stack off with middle pair on the flop that I just get it in and shrug.
Then there was this superfish I played with:

My session was over, I had my iron man points for the day. I unchecked autopost and started sitting out. I was done, I took a breath, said ok I'm going to leave. Then I thought, dammit this guy is free money, the rest of the table is a bunch of nits. Leaving here is throwing money away. I had tilted for a few minutes earlier, but I have my composure back now. I'm going to leave when this guy is broke. I took a bit more off the fish, but ran into trouble from the nits at the table.
Here, dear reader, is the saga of my extended single-table session:

sn? We may have bumped at 100nl on FTP. Also, most winning players are bad so can't rly be surprised too much...

Just doing a breakfast morning stop in.
Looked over some of the hands quickly.
that Q9hh hand where you call a 3bet is spew every street. Flop float would always be meh, but even moreso given his sizing. But you already know that was spew.
Calling 9To to 3bets.. sigh. But once you get to the flop, I don't hate the min-raise. On the turn, I'd say he's very much WA/WB, with hands that beat ours and hands like AQ/66 and some other nonsense. Not much point shoving. I'd probably bet like $15 into 65 and hope he tilt shoves something or OOP floats and trys drawing to his 6 outer.
-
Ill, I figure everyone is bad. Hell that's kind of what this thread is about. I guess it's just kind of telling that this guy who I can look at and say "That's bad" is doing well while I feel like I'm struggling and not living up to my expectations for myself.
Griffey, thanks for the reply.
The Qh9h hand was a little wierd. His 3bet size before the flop makes me want to call with ATC. Then again, a 3b that size generally means power, and I should have thought more about that post-flop. I posted the hand focusing on my bad play on the turn and over looked how the flop float was kind of hopless.
My steal % is a little high and I tend to call 3bets a bit too light. I'm going to be thinking about tightening both ranges and maybe 4 betting a bit more.
In the T9o hand, I intended to make it look like I turned a draw. I figured he'd call with a bunch of smaller pairs and possibly even AK. In hindsight, I like your idea of another small bet to induce.

AA hand - just b/f turn. Lots of worse hands can still call (78, JT are always calling, and even hands like QT and stuff are never folding and never jamming turn)

Idea:
I'm going to start each session 10-tabling and remove any tables that look crappy until I'm down to 4-6 tables. The idea is that at the beginning of a session I'll be playing tight anyway and by the end the value I get from having watched a bunch of hands will be greatest with fewer tables.
My goal for now will be to start at ten and have it down to 6 within half an hour, down to 4 around the hour mark and end it around 1.5 hours or just keep going from there if I feel good and the tables are good.
