My guess is he completed from the big blind with 56 and he's hit his straight on the river. I think if he had a set of 2's or 7's he would have re-raised the turn, especially as there was then a flush draw.

Make a tight fold imo...(but I do fold too often).

combos of 77/22 outnumber combos of 56s so this is a call. You'll lose about 1/3 of the time so don't stress it when/if it happens. Limp behind preflop standard for you?

It's a limped pot and villain overbets river which makes it look like 56/TJ or even 99/AA, way more than 22/77. Perfectly reasonable to not be happy here.

Absolutely raise preflop though.
