Just watched an episode of Fridge last night. It was pretty dark and interesting. I would suggest if you liked The X Files you will love this too.
Nice try Fridge producer!
anyone else ever catch the ricky gervais show? It comes on hbo and is this animated show thats just these three british guys having nonsensical conversations about nothing. Its fucking hilarious.
YouTube - The Ricky Gervais Show: Episode #1 Clip 1 (HBO)
His show, Extras, was fantastic
Extras is very good.
Just two very short seasons but definitely worth checking out.
Pretty old and hard to find:
Duckman: Private Detective/ Family Man.
Best animated show ever.
Speaking of Duck Man, I've always enjoyed The Critic (I don't know why I associate the two) with Jon Lovitz.
Does anybody remember this show?
duck man, the critic and dr katz
wheeeeeee
Ricky Gervais Show is funny... not really a TV show tho. I guess it was a radio show or meant as an audio book and then they made some cartoons to fit it. It's not nearly as horrible as that kind of stuff usually is, but I just listen and minimize the player. I guess when we're already there, there's a series of audio books with Gervais, Mergant and that third guy called "Guide ..." or something like that. I think it's a dollar or two each on itunes.
It's weired I love Ricky Gervais in just about everything he does including his stand-up, but I just don't care for the Office - the original one. I just don't think it's funny. And I've given it a couple of chances. Doesn't work for me.

YouTube - Entourage Season 7 Preview - What Next?
This is why I am waiting for a series to end from now on. No more waits
And everyone always wonders why I jump on the bandwagon 5 years late for every series. ITS SO I CAN SIT DOWN AND WATCH THEM ALL IN 2 WEEKS
On top of that, it becomes much easier to get accurate reviews so you'll end up only choosing shows that don't suck
Lost is a good example. Entire show was a bait and switch ratings whore. If you started watching it from the get-go you probably watched all of it, but if you waited until it's over you probably won't bother because now it's easy to find any reviews worth their salt calling it awful
Yea, i really wanted to watch this and missed the first season. Now I am not sure I want to waste my time. The finale has got a ton of bad press for not finishing up the series well at all and not answering a ton of questions.
It's worse than just that. They had exactly zero macro coherence. It became obvious that the one and only goal of the show was ratings, and they started with a bunch of incompatible ideas and threw them in whenever they wanted. By the end, they told the audience to go fuck themselves and that not one single event in the entire show mattered one iota
On the micro scale, the writing was pretty good, but on the macro scale it was so abysmal that I'm positive George Lucas was in charge
Also, they had a rather clear agenda in the first season of the show, but because it was figured out by the audience, the insecure moron writers weeped themselves to sleep because they weren't mysterious enough so they decided to change everything based on whatever whim made them appear ahead of the game
Man I love Gervais, but I cannot sit through his new show. It's an assault on my senses. Cartooning them in the studio is just a terrible idea. If they kept the studio stuff real life and used cartoons for flash sideways it wouldn't be such an egregious aesthetic mistake
^ agreed on Gervais
I have s1 of Friday Night Lights, but just can't be bothered to push through the 5 episode barrier.
Am I missing something awesome?
I just listen to the potcasts in the car. I don't care for the cartoons either, but it's still a good show.
OMGOMGOMG NEW SEASON OF FUTURAMA OMGOMG!
First two episodes were awesome. Let's hope it stays on this time.
Less omg, but I'm still going to watch it even though I'm ashamed to admit it: 3rd season of True Blood.
shut up.
Futurama is now on Netflix. The question is now...do I embark on this journey and start watching?
Yes.
I love the fringe atm, great show.
Futurama is a show that you can watch in between heavier shows. I suggest you get your hands on some Breaking Bad dvds and use Futurama when you can no longer look into the eyes of a true badass.
Lies, Futurama is good for all occasions.
^ Is that similar to your mom?
My mother is most certainly not good for all occasions.
Touche rilla. I haven't gotten into Breaking Bad yet, I'll have to check it out when I move out.
Raise your hand if you've seen the BBC show QI.
If your hand is not now raised, you have some soul searching to do. QI will be your spirit guide.
Jyms watch lost, just stop after season 4 and tell yourself it ended. You will be bitter but much less bitter.
sounds reasonable. I think the hard part will be taking everyone's word for it after 4 good seasons to actually stop.
Inside Natures Giants on BBC4 is awesome. It's in its second season right now, but I assume they'll run out of huge fkin mammals to disect pretty soon. You'll know they've jumped the shark when they're diving around in some 2 ton octopus.
Guarantee you won't stop. A decent chunk of the Lost audience kept watching (me included) just to see how much they were planning on fucking things up.
Also, there's a lot of debate over which seasons were good, and I'm not sure you could say with confidence that 1-4 are good while the rest suck. By all means, each season or chunk of episodes was as good as the others, it's just that the problem was on the large scale
Lost is a gigantic bait and switch. Its small scale quality is above mainstream TV yet below premier TV like HBO, yet it was a macro disaster. I'm only saying this because it's very intriguing superficially, and if you start watching it you'll most likely finish the whole thing
However, it's possible there's value to watching it inasmuch as they did such a good job of making intriguing mystery stuff that simply being told it wouldn't deliver might not be enough to sway the feeble human mind upon the tricky experience. With two whole seasons left to go, I was fully confident the ending process would not deliver, yet still watched anyways, and honestly enjoyed the process of watching as well as bagging on it later
I watched the first 2.5 seasons of Lost and got bored.
Seen a few episodes of Lie To Me. Liked it, didn't love it.
Lie to Me is ok, through no fault of Roth's, he's stronger than Laurie but his supporting case is not
Roth's the reason I dl'ed it, hate to think I wasted all that time... no, mo.... no, oh well, if it's crap it's crap.
Roth doesn't disappoint in it.
yea and as pointed out there is nothing outside the cases, they tried to start a few relationships but nothing really happens besides Roth and co. solving shit.
it's not bad. Horribly fuckin american, all yank tv shows seem to assume the viewer is too thick to notice anything subtle, which is kinda annoying. But overall quite watchable.
I wonder how many couples have ended up arguing after one assumes they can suddenly spot the others lies, since obv we are all experts at lie detection now we've seen the show.
Yeah thats why from now on im sticking with just hbo for tv series. HBO doesn't really give a handful of fucks about ratings or playing to a wide audience.
Yeah, in terms of things that just about fulfuil the crime series criteris, its onlt really Dexter & 24 for me. Can't wait for nex dexter, September this year I think.
I assume that was meant to reply to my hbo post. Yeah, imo. HBO is going to make a shitload of money almost no matter what their programming is, so it allows them to entertain the notion of shows like the wire. Treme for example, theres no way that show is going to get watched enough to be worth the trouble, but its already renewed for season 2.
HBO gets it's money from subscribers, you buy into HBO and HBO says, "Imma entertain the shit out of you."
Cable channels need to appeal to a broad audience, get a huge chunk of viewers and look to advertisers saying, "I will bring you this many attentive eyes, speak to them."
There's a restaurant analogy in here somewhere, but I'm still pretty hungover.
Here's my shot. It's like the difference between a restaurant which appeals to the masses: quick, check; greasy, salty, sweet; check; priced right, check. And a restaurant which appeals to people by promising them a good meal across the menu, though you may have to pay for the fact that they're aiming for a smaller segment of the market.
just watched some old curb ep where julia louis dreyfus is on and she wants to do a show with Larry but only on HBO so she can say fuck whenever she wants. Show is so good.
The other thing network tv has to juggle besides ratings is that the people who own the huge corporations that spend billions on advertising can pull their shit if the programming is offensive to their quaint judeo christian morals.
Due to expense, the demographics that purchase HBO are generally more intelligent and more well equipped to appreciate quality
Or maybe because of the expense alone.

Not sure what you're trying to say
the supranos
Boardwalk Empire with Steve Buscemi looks promising.
Yeah, I just started watching Louie. CK is the greatest comic alive today. Only seen first two eps so far. First was good but not fantastic, second was a bit better and I can tell the show will evolve into something quite unique and quality
Thanks so much for letting me know that Louis CK's new show has started up, I just caught all four eps and its quite awesome.
^ This. I'm currently watching the second on Hulu. However, I think the first episode was a bit better than the second.
However, this comedy will probably get cancelled for the same reasons Arrested Development got cancelled: people are morons.
Ya i thought the 5min of them sitting around the poker table was some of the best TV I've seen this year. I love his stand up and just caught some documentary on Showtime about stand-ups and he was on it.
On a semi-related note, he was in "the invention of lying" with Gervais, it was awful.
Someone brought up Due South in a conversation recently, and I had completely forgotten about it. I used to watch it when I was maybe 10 and then it went off the air. I just re-watched the pilot. I'll get Season 1. I think it's a pretty good show.
Also watched the pilot of McGyver recently... The monologues are the ramblings of a madman. Idk if it went on like that in later seasons, but it's pretty funny.
I don't think I've ever seen a funnier cameo than Gervais in Louie
Even better than Patrick Stewart on Extras
i freaking died when he was talking about louie's cancer balls during the end credits
His show is always over when I feel like I'm ready to just watch it for the rest of the night.
