Is that a young John Oliver and young Bill Gates?
For the last two days, I've had Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cirus stuck on my head, and it took me a while to figure out why.
That fucking song we sing.
"Please don't take me home, don't take me home, I just don't want to go to work..."
"And if you break my heart, my achy breaky fucking heart" etc.
Who the fuck makes a football song out of that melody?
That lovely bong. Hello lovely bong.
I came here to say that whenever I watch France I have Mmm-Bop by Hansen on my head, because their star player is called Mbappe.
But know I'm looking for my bong.
Football's staying there.
Croatia had better fucking beat France.
We were as good as any other team I've seen for the first half. We should've been at least 2 up, 3 on a good day. Second half, idk what happened but we were a different team. Was that Croatia being better? Or is it something we can fix? I think it's the latter, it seemed to be the case against Colombia, too. If we can keep the tempo up for 90 minutes, I don't see why we should fear anyone.
Stones, Walker and to a lesser degree Maguire really aren't defensively sound. If you put them under pressure they'll crumble. The defending for both their goals was comical and Stones in particular went to absolute pot after Croatia scored.
Croatia are the only team in the tournament to have an easier ride than us to the final and they took Denmark and Russia to penalties (both poor sides) but if you scalp Argentina, no matter how poor they are, you get credit.
I'm not so convinced by Walker yet, but Stones and Maguire are incredible. Sure they have defensive flaws, but the mistakes they make are the kind that they make less with experience. We have two potentially world class centre halves there, I'm excited. Now if Walker can step up to their level, or someone else emerges, then we have a decade of awesome.
The problem here is that England are not used to seeing defenders playing out from the back. It's normally hoof it up and see what happens. Occasionally, especially when the players are relatively inexperienced, mistakes will be made, and they will look horrendous and often result in a goal. But how often do we give away possession by hoofing it forwards, only to concede a goal? How is that any better than giving the ball away trying to keep possession at the back? It's equally as disasterous, except when defenders fuck up it looks uglier. But it probably results in a goal less often.
Our defence will get better, much better. There's a reason Pep rates Stones. And any club would snap up Maguire if we were available.
