I'm a pretty lucky guy and I don't need a lot of things. I'm trying to come up with a Christmas list for friends and relatives and besides an Arsenal 2012/2013 Away Kit, Halo 4, and COD Black Ops II I can't think of much more. I try to avoid clothing besides asking for gift cards.
What's on others' lists?
Also, those gifts are pretty expensive so I need to find some other things as well on the cheaper side.

Football boots, new clothes (need a bunch of stuff) so like vouchers/money rather than actual clothes like you said apart from a couple of relatives who have good taste, books, socks (lol, honestly)

I don't know what you mean by "tack", so I can't comment on whether this is a good idea or not.
I do however know what Welsh flags are and I wouldn't recommend sticking them on many things (though again until I know what a tack is I can't pass comment).

Leeks, daffodils, sheep, red dragons, clogau gold, celtic crosses, rugby shirts, these are all very welsh things. Anything with a red dragon on it is insta-welsh (mug, lighter, tee shirt etc etc).

My mother used to be of this principle too when me and my siblings were younger. Get you what you need/want when you need/want it, instead of withholding all year and only giving on designated times. But still at the end of the year you'd get the big pile of gifts. I think it's too hard for them not to, when all the other kids get this aswell.
It is slightly shifting now due to American media influence, but in Belgium we typically give the gifts not on Christmas, but on december 6, called Sinterklaas. It is basically the same figure as Santa Claus, only he comes in a steamboat and he doesn't have a sleigh and reindeer, but rather he has black slaves.

I made these shelves and the Star Trek book ends for my woman for Christmas and her birthday, respectively (her b-day is early January). You can't really see it, but they have a partial back.
I really like the partial back. Did you paint them or use a bunch of dark stain?
