I "hope" you're right, but alarmingly many of his decisions suddenly start to make sense if you assume he's firmly in Putin's pocket. There's been some tough talk against Russia recently (maybe to not make it too obvious), but it's probably not a coincidence the only countries not slapped with massive tariffs are Russia, North Korea, Belarus and some other similarly minded buttfuckistans. Russia would love nothing more than the demise of the US, weakening of NATO and EU, a struggling western economy. Every single action he's made are furthering those goals. I'm genuinely wondering if there'll be actual fair midterms or elections coming up, and whether a civil war is the only way out of this.

The more I follow politics, the less I make sense of it. The conditions on Israel used to be: Must let aid in. Rafah is a red line. Don't summary execute UN aid workers point blank and throw them in a mass grave. Right now we're a month into a total aid blockade, Rafah is rubble, and finally, after a number of stories of aid workers found chained and executed in mass graves, finally we find one that's worth reporting on, and the Senate overwhelmingly votes down a resolution to stop arming the genocide. Including Cory Booker coming off of his inspiring 25h stunt. "We MUST fight inequality wherever we find it!" (*Some restrictions may apply)

Trump loves strongmen. The way North Korea really shit the bed was when they thought they could nationalize agriculture in a country not suited for agriculture, relying on factory workers who have never done agriculture.
Now Trump is like: that sounds fucking lit! Let's nationalize Avocado's, coffee and semiconductors. *Pulls giant lever*
That he can just do that is insane. During Biden it was all like: UwU, we can't do this or that because of separation of powers. No, turns out you can actually do whatever the fuck you want! Why is that news?

It's another year until midterms. Is calling elections early a thing? This would be how Europe would handle this. The UK burnt through four prime ministers in two years. Say what you want about Boris Johnson, but at least he's not charging the House of Commons with a pack of scallywags.

The US is crumbling. Too much damage has been done. It's only a matter of time, now.
Too many support pillars have been utterly removed. Tens of thousands of federal employees have been fired. Regulators are gone.
It's only a matter of time before products become toxic, services aren't denied, they're absent... people are going to die over this.

Everything that can be made can be remade, but ... this is going to take years to show all the consequences and decades to fix them.

The absolute worst is that sitting Dems aren't even pushing back against any of this. If a Dem president did 1/10 of what Trump is doing, the sitting Reps would be up in arms bitching about it to every news agent in the land.

Dems just sit there rubbing their hands waiting for their turn like it will come.

It is a real head-scratcher.

I'm just going to be stupidly optimistic after Mamdani's NYC primary victory. That is a huge upset. The NYT and BBC get a lot of flak for their reporting on Israel/Palestine, and rightfully so, but it is unmeasurably better than what German media is presenting. The Hasbara operation coming out of our state media is astonishing. As if they're a mouthpiece, not for Israel, but for the most extremist members of the Knesset. Literally the only reporting someone who reads our Independent news gets from that region is if a Hamas member gets killed, or Israel gets attacked.
US and UK media are doing a much better job, and it shows in the polls.
A person running for political office openly saying what Mamdami is saying would have absolutely no chance of winning any election in Germany or Austria, or the US just a couple of years ago. This is a massive shift. Housing is such an easy issue for the left to jump on. Erasing billionaires should not be a tough one to argue either.

What Epstein files? According to our Attorney General, they don't exist.
