120fps? I assume you have the draw distance down then?
Haven't played it myself but I've heard that the viewing distance slider is just a framerate killer that does zip for the visuals
Printable View
I just started it up to make sure I wasn't talking shit and apparently I was talking shit. It depends on the environment. Indoors it's 120+ always. Outside it's between 60 and 130 depending on the environment and maybe time of day. That's on a single gtx970 with everything including FOV on max. The view distance slider makes no difference in framerate as far as I can tell. I can't even tell what it does in game. Turning everything off gives me 130+ and the game still looks pretty good.
Not to distract, but I am with dhubs on the long loading times.
For a minute there, Cd's an DVD's were the best way to cram all those 1's and 0's into a small enough space. Of course, the cartridges had no moving hardware and had nearly instantaneous load times. The move to disks introduced moving parts that slowed down the system dramatically.
Aren't we past that? Don't we have affordable SSD's now? Can't we eliminate loading times again?
Bring back the cartridge!
I can tell you excatly why that is. Customers look at numbers. If the number is higher they assume it's better. 'SSD' is not a number, therefore it doesn't sell. You'll never convince someone to buy CL9 memory over CL12 either. Why: smaller number! You can tell exactly how it works by the dumbshit systems that hardware manufacturers offer. I7's all over the place. I7 macbooks with physical harddrives. So you can cruch the shit out of all those floating point calculations after you wait a minute for your system to boot up. They know exactly what they're doing. Retarded customers call for retarded system configurations, because we know you're going to pick the 2TB drive over the 500gb SSD every single time, you dumb fuck.
I don't even know why I'm angry lol. Like it affects me.
Is there a particular reason why a game would need to be 120 frames per second? I'm pretty sure the human eye cannot discern frame by frame motion at like 20-30. Seems like the only benefit to more frames is in games like WOW and diablo where damage ticks frame by frame and it makes stat calculations more crude when there are fewer frames.
That's a myth. You can see way past that. If you move your mouse across the screen you see a series of images. That's not some kind of sytem artefact, that's your screen printing your mouse 60 times per second.
http://www.testufo.com/#test=framerates
Once you get up to 144 it becomes almost smooth. The reason 24fps works for movies is because the way cameras work they blur the shit out of every frame. Also the camera tracks the action rather than your eye. In a video game you have to keep track of fast moving objects so the faster the refresh rate the clearer you can see moving images. On a 144hz monitor you can read text in a browser while you're moving a window, but you can still clearly see the frames. In the next couple of years displays will go past 144hz, and will hopefully switch to a smarter way of updating images. The only reason it still goes from top to bottom and left to right is for CRT compatibilty. This causes a series of issues. When the video card is done rendering a frame it can either send it to the monitor straight away making it update mid frame causing the bottom half of the screen to be further ahead in time than the top and you end up with a noticeable tear through the middle. Or you can make the video card wait until the next frame to update, which is called vsync. This is generally considered fine as long as your video card can render a frame in less than 1/60s consistently. If it doesn't then it will wait for the next refresh cycle of the monitor and while it waits it prints the previous frame again, so now you're down to 30fps for one or more frames which is even more annoying than a game running at a constant 30fps.
Can I assume you're gaming on a 144hz g sync monitor?
Nah, I'm waiting until prices are less retarded. I'm slightly bothered by tearing but I'm not $200 - bothered
So I played Mass Effect 1-3 in 3 weeks recently. What an amazing experience. I actually really liked the ending, the one I got anyway.
I like this a lot more than Trine. Story is light but engaging (warning: The beginning has an Up moment that you may have to explain off to your wife as you just cut onions) and the art style is wonderful and engaging. Trine felt like a light hearted platformer that laughed at itself. This is better...and much harder.
Don't know if there are any Nintendo fans here, but the new Smash bros is tons of fun had a few late nights with that one!
Pillars of Eternity.
It's rich.
You gotta play it on easy. I turned it up to Normal while dungeon crawling and I was burning through resources. But it is a true, blue RPG. Very well executed. If it looks like it's up your alley in terms of story and world, you'll love it.
I've been playing Bloodborne this week. I got it and The Last of Us: Remastered along with a PS4 console Tuesday... haven't played The Last of Us yet.
Without spoiling it, Bloodborne is a great game. My personal opinion is that it's way better than DKS2 and on part with DKS1 (I've never played Demon Souls). There is an entirely new fighting mechanic that alters PvP and makes it potentially much longer. Aggression is key in both PvP & PvE.
The level visuals don't vary NEARLY as much as DKS1 & DKS2... most of it has the same general atmosphere, but it's different enough to where it doesn't take away from the game. There are long loading times upon death & warp (extra step added for warps, which isn't good). Humanity has been replaced by "Insight," which slightly alters the game at pre-determined levels (1, 10, 15, 30, 40 so far for me).
Anyone else Bloodbone-binging?
Nah, too busy playing Pillars of Eternity. I have a stronghold and I killed a king. Climbed the walls at night and assaulted him and his guards.
Got back into Diablo 3 a few days ago. It is massively improved. Still pretty inferior to D2, but they're starting to approach it.
OMG!
New computers in tha house! My lady and I have a pair of identical new 'puters.
quad core 3.06 GHz chipset
8GB RAM
1 GHz graphics card w/ 640 data streams (capable of supporting 1080p @ 60Hz)
250 GB HDD
+ case / power supply / fans, etc.
All for ~$410 each.
She's running Skyrim w/o complaints right now. I think it's time to find a new game to play. I feel like I'm stepping 15 years forward with this move in computing power. I can't even play Oblivion on my laptop.
Nice. pc race is master race etc etc
Are you looking for more skyrim-esque games or you're not fussy?
Picked up trials fusion + season pass for £13
FMX levels are rather gimmicky but the game as a whole is superb
I'm currently exploring mods and options in minecraft that were prohibited to me earlier. Playing the game with a higher-res texture pack and cranking up the draw distance has made the game much more viewable. I'm currently messing around with Thaumcraft for the first time. I have compiled a personal modpack that could be much expanded upon, but I didn't want to bite off too much at once.
I'll probably be getting into Skyrim soon, but I'm not willing to spend the $40 for a 2nd copy in the house. I got moderately into modding Morrowind for a while. I played Oblivion and loved it, too. So I'm certain that I'll get lost in Skyrim soon enough.
I confess that Cities Skylines is probably going to be sucking up a lot of time for me in the near future as well.
Oblivion is one of my favorites, I had to buy it twice because my PC couldn't handle it so I had to play it on xbox 360
So I was stuck on some really early mission in Dying Light and after a couple of days of dying horribly some guy comes along and just looks at me while I'm clubbing a zombi with a broken pipe and says Nice weapon lol. And then he drops me a sword with a battery and spikes and whatnot attached to it and it cuts 3 guys in half with one swing whilst electrocuting them. Then he helps me out with the mission and just walks off into the sunset. That was my 2nd most favorite video game moment of 2015. Right after getting a 15 min. Aghs on hardsupport Witchdoctor.
I didn't find out about The Elder Scrolls until "Morrowind," and that game blew my mind. IMO not even Skyrim matches the mystery of that game... although it was definitely old-school with very little fast travel and a hard-to-follow journal system. I've heard that TES I & II (Arena & Daggerfall) were even better for their time. Oblivion was my least favorite out of the series, although the Dark Brotherhood side quest was awesome.
Spent the entire evening yesterday playing Flatout 2. And by that I mean we spent the entire evening setting up virtual lan since there are no servers anymore and about an hour playing, but damn that game is fun. I even enjoyed setting all that shit up. Forwarding ports like it's 1999. It even looks amazing. That's a game from 2006. There are racing games out today that don't look as good as this.
I preordered Bugbear's new game about a year ago. It's probably another year away from release, but it's shaping up to be really good. I hope they keep the insanity of the old games alive. Racing a school bus against a flatmobile is what made the game amazing. I think 2005 will be racing game year for me. Probably getting myself a force feedback wheel and assetto corsa, because that game is ridiculously fun as well.
Never got a chance to play morrowind, I really enjoyed entering the oblivion planes especially the last one, and I agree about the dark brotherhood quests, those were a ton of fun. Assassinations using secret passages and what not was awesome! Today I bought evil within for $29.99 (regular $69.99) and this game is a mind fuck, only played chapter 1 for now, waiting for it to get dark :P
I'm into Torchlight 2 while listening to podcasts now. Playing a flame hammer engineer on Elite. No greater aesthetic in the game than a fully armored engineer slamming down a greathammer with the authority of a god. The game is genuinely better than D3. Not the polish, nor the population, but it's forgiving and inventive in all the right ways.
Is anyone getting Mortal Kombat X on PS4? My favorite Fatality is Cassie's at 3:30
I've heard nothing but good things about mkx, and that vid really shows how far the fatalities have come since the 90s
That mortal kombat game looks really fun,but I will have to wait for the price to go down
I love the selfie one :3
I'd like to see a bunch of these recreated in the Walking Dead show.
Here's an update on Bloodborne & Scholar of the First Sin (Dark Souls II remastered).
SofFS runs well at 60 FPS on the PS4, plus they've tweaked a LOT of the PvP play for Dark Souls II since it first came out. There are some different enemy & item placements that make it a little more fun. I haven't gotten into the original DLC yet (I never played this when I originally played the game on XBOX 360), so I'm looking forward to that.
One of the biggest general gripes about Dark Souls II is it's level design. It's not that the level design is bad imo (well, the elevator up from Earthen Peak to a lava pit in Iron Keep is bad), it's just not as epic as Dark Souls I. The true way to play Dark Souls games is to not over-level, but this is an inevitable trend that happens for those of us who don't have the concentration levels to pwn PvE. You can get careless when over-leveled, but you pay the price in PvP against the hardcore players who have practiced so much at lower levels to increase their skill.
Bloodborne is an epic PvE experience... with LOTS of secret areas. You can actually go through the game and finish it while missing a ton of its content. Level design is excellent. The areas aren't as varied as they are in Dark Souls I & II, but it doesn't take away from the game. However, the PvP experience has its hiccups (as did Dark Souls II when it first came out). Summoning and invading is very vague with the new "Reckoning Bell" system. You no longer see summon signs, but just have to ring a bell and hope the system matches you up with someone in a reasonable amount of time. Sometimes this happens and sometimes it doesn't.
Bloodborne has a regain system that promotes aggressive play. Couple that with gunshot-parrying and it brings an entirely new dynamic to dealing with enemies. Over-leveling still makes the game easier, but there are VERY challenging moments at some points in the game that force "casual" players (aka casuls) to git gud.
Chalice Dungeons have been introduced in Bloodborne. They are randomized areas that get extremely difficult as you increase their "depth." They do get tedious, but are also more difficult than anything in the normal game progression... even for an over-leveled player.
Comparing Bloodborne & Dark Souls II to each other is a bit weird. Overall I'd say that Bloodborne is the better game... yet I've put in much more time recently playing Dark Souls II (remastered version) rather than Bloodborne... despite having finished Dark Souls II a couple of years ago. I may play Bloddborne for a bit, but find myself still going back to DKS II after a short amount of time.
Overall, I'd give Blooborne a 9.3 out of 10 and Dark Souls II (in its current-gen "Sins of the First Scholar" release a 9.4 out of 10. Both are very worthwhile purchases.
What pisses me off about the that MKX video is that there's a "fatality practice mode." Back in the good old days of the early SNES and Sega Genesis, the fatalities were mysterious. Video games had all these cool secrets that only a few of us knew. On the original Mortal Kombat there wasn't even blood by default, it had to be enabled with a cheat code. All of the moves and fatalities had to be learned by random chance or from your friend's Nintendo Power magazine, and it gave this air of mischief and mystery to the game. This is a quality of video gaming that I don't even believe is possible anymore, but the least they could do is make the fatalities a little less easy to learn.
With the internet around you can forget about that. What I really don't like is that you can buy them like cosmetics. That doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the game.
I bought myself a used G27 force feedback wheel last week. Bought it off a 70 year old woman who used to play racing games against her husband until he died of cancer last year. Funny how the universe always has a way of working things out. Give a man cancer, give me a barely used force feedback wheel.
I have another game I like to play with myself which is to try to say the worst thing I have ever said once a day. Tomorow it's going to get really hard.
Assetto Corsa is fun as hell btw.
I'm 4 hours into The Last of Us "Remastered" on PS4. I finally decided to download it because all the reviews I've read/watched have been overly positive. I'm playing through it as slowly as possible (I've heard the main campaign takes 12-15 hours but it usually takes me about twice as long to finish campaigns as it does serious gamers).
So far I'd give it close to a 9 out of 10, but I'm still in the very early stages I think (downtown area with Elie & Tess). It was actually Angry Joe's video review that convinced me I had to play this game...
I want to see an amorphous blob of a game that completely mixes the bag every time you start it up. Randomly-generated levels, randomly generated item and mob names and characteristics, randomly-generated goals. I want it to be so dynamic that not even a wikia can keep up with it, much less a strategy guide. I'm sure it's possible.
Nice, enjoy the last of us, great game!
angry birds fans (or those who like physics-based games) should check this out: http://jayisgames.com/games/where-is-my-beard/
so fun, better than angry birds i think
Wow, The Last of Us Remastered is a great game. I completed the game and its DLC Left Behind on "Hard" difficulty, which was quite a challenge since I'm not that great at shooting games.
The multiplayer is also great. I hadn't played much MP in a shooter since CoD: MW1. I'm really bad at it (I die about 3 times for every kill I get) but it's very fun. I give the game a 9/10
-
I sure hope The Witcher 3 lives up to all the hype it's getting. I pre-ordered and can download it on PS4 tomorrow afternoon Central Time. It will be the first Witcher game I've ever played.
http://agar.io/
Did you buy Mortal Kombat X dhubermex? How is that game? Was thinking of buying it next.
Hey there MTC.
I didn't... I was never one of the better players in fighting games (I used to stand in line for an hour just to get stomped in 1 minute back when the original MK1 was popular). Instead, I decided to wait and get The Witcher 3.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
This was my first-ever "pre order" purchase of a video game and also my first experience with any Witcher game.
If you're a fan of "open world" RPGs, then The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a must-buy imo. It definitely has its issues, but there is SO MUCH content in this game.
PROS
* Large Map (larger than Skyrim)
* Fleshed-out Quests (Main Quests and Side Quests are well done, with LOTS of cinematics
* Fun Gameplay (For the most part, the Quests aren't repetitive and the gameplay is overall entertaining
* Lots of Loot
* Great Story
* 100+ hours of Single Player gameplay (if you do everything it will be around 200 hours in a single playthrough)
CONS
Movement: It's not that easy to get around in The Witcher 3, not even when you're walking/running/looting/riding horseback
Glitches: Plenty of visual mishaps (think Skyrim). It's understandable for as big as the game is
No Multiplayer: If you buy games because of their MP experience, The Witcher 3 doesn't have one
Small Text: If you're playing this game on a small, non-HD TV or a tiny laptop screen, you'll likely have issues reading some of the text because it's so small
Framerate Drops: It does not run at a stable 30 FPS on PS4/XBONE
OVERALL
Despite some of its issues, The Witcher 3 is a sure candidate for 2015 Game of the Year. I'm having a hard time putting it down.
9/10
Ok thanks for the update, heard good things about Witcher 3 hope you enjoy it!
The cinematics are the best I have ever seen. The facial animations! If this was a movie trailer, I'd go watch that movie.
I started playing witcher 3. Incredible graphics and gameplay
I wish I had the patience for open world RPG's because this one really looks like a masterpiece, but given my track record with triple A titles I'll probably really enjoy it for a couple of hours and then get bored with it.
Been playing Witcher 3 also, looks great. Just killed the gryffon, went through the formalities and now too off to look for Ciri.
Another game I bought is Bloodthorne, damn hard game that doesn't hold your hand like other games do. Took me quite some time just to figure out how to equip my weapons. I'll definitely play it after beating some of the other games. GTA5 I'm at 35% or so.
Also picked up Assassis Creed - Unity. Also looks quite good but only played for an hour.
Little Big Planet 3 is a fun adventure (platformer) game. I finished it quite quickly but yesterday bought a second controller and played with the gf, quite hilarious. Call of Duty - Advanced warfare is also sitting on my shelve but it's low on my list to pick up again.
Still waiting for God of War to come to ps4.
Sleeping dogs is fun. And I haven't even got a gun yet!
I'm still playing The Witcher 3... believe I'm almost finished with it (I'm on the "Final Preparations" quest. Even taking my time through the game, there are still TONS of things I've missed on this first playthrough. As I said in my post above, the game isn't perfect but it's the most in-depth RPG I've ever played due to all the detailed side quests. I read somewhere that there are 495 quests in all... and very few of them are generic in nature.
Has anyone here played Enslaved: Odyssey to the west? Andy Serkis (aka gollum) voice & mocaps the main character, and also co-directed the game.
Fallout 4 ads are out. Looks like more of the same but I'm not unhappy about that and can't help but get excited.
I felt the same way about Skyrim when it was announced. Just nothing to get excited about. That game worked out well.
After a month or so of playing Skyrim, I feel like Bethesda has lost the magic of Morrowind.
(Morrowind > Oblivion, IMO)
I can play Skyrim for the visuals. Everything else (combat system, leveling system, guild system, etc.) is rough. At least the visuals really pop. Whenever the scenery seems a little bland, I realize that I've done it to myself by spending too much time on a grind. Once I start moving about a bit more, the visual variety is impressive.
Skyrim and Oblivion beat Morrowind hands down here. No contest.
The perk system is atrocious. There are so many useless or situational perks, and so few actually desirable perks.
E.g. the lockpicking perk tree: I never put a perk point into lockpicking, and I never found a lock I couldn't pick.
The main story is so bland. The supposed villains introduced in the early game are revealed to be the actual villains w/o nuance.
The civil war between the Stormcloaks and the Imperials is OK. To be fair, I haven't done the imperial quest line (if there is one). The Stormcloak quest line was lame story-wise, but had some fun missions.
My interest in the game tanked hard when I completed the main quest and realized that the overall plot is rated G.
OK... first time defeating Alduin (end-game defeat, that is), the scene immediately after had me a bit scared... good outro for the main quest.
Spoiler:After the fight with Alduin, you're left on the Tooth of the World with a dozen or so dragons flying overhead. If they decided to attack... well... Fighting Alduid one-on-one was good times. 12 to 1 against the other dragons, though? Uh-oh.
I can't help but join the Thieves guild. Of all the guilds to be approached by the leader and given an initiation quest in the middle of the town market!
I can be Arch Mage as a low-level scrub.
Oblivion Dark Brotherhood questline is better than Skyrim, easily.
Horses. :/ More hassle than value.

Has anyone modded Skyrim? Outside the obvious (all the patches, cleaning the core files, SKSE), what are your favorite mods?
I have the book covers upgraded to show the title and author.
I added cloaks, to give another piece of equipment to wear / enchant.
I have a mod to darken the caves. I find the caves are entirely too well-lit and making the darkness more oppressive is a big boost for my immersion.
Yeah, alright, you're right. I still enjoyed Skyrim and Fallout 3 before it for the atmosphere and all that junk. Skyrim could have been better on those fronts with a more impactful main event and better guild stuff.
But when I was on top of the throat of the world talking to Paar, I loved that shit.
Hmmm the fact that I remember so little about the story line of skyrim says a lot. But I do remember being thoroughly immersed in the game at the time and spending many hours playing it.
My biggest gripe was that I spent ages getting tough, finding/creating really string weapons etc that be the time the giant battle arrived I was so strong it was beyond simple.
Other than that I guess I liked it.
Is fallout 4 going to have that ridiculous targeting system where you can freeze time and shoot every enemy directly 10 times in the head?
It's like asking if Final Fantasy 2 will be turned based. Dog...
Ditto. Paar is adorable. There are plenty of great moments and a handful of great characters.
Sheogorath is excellent.
Cicero's dialogue is hilarious. His repetitive little follower comments are the best.
Belethor cracks me up with his, "I'd sell my sister," line. It never gets old.
The apothecary in Riften always makes me smile - the old guy who's always "busy," even if he's just sitting there staring at you.
I agree, but I feel conflicted about it.
I feel like this is the kind of thing I would have really wanted from the game a decade or two ago.
Also, there is a difficulty slider for players who want to min/max a player character (like, umm, everyone?). However, I experimented with it and it has its own flaws. There's always the imbalance between the minions who are a 1-shot cakewalk and the boss fights, which can be significantly harder.
Still, it's the 2+ death fights that are where the fun is.
I mean.
First death: Oops, I walked in too fast. I was overconfident. Now I see the setup. Initiate food based regen and...
Second death: Dayum! OK. My 'go-to' bag of tricks isn't enough. What's in my inventory? Where can I find cover? What's my fallback position?
I love the part where it suddenly turns into a problem-solving scenario. [insert Greatest American Hero gif]
I'm hopeful for Fallout 4. Nothing to really geek out about yet, but I think its proper to keep that stuff close to the vest for now. The essentials of the game (post-apoc, vaults, dog companion, guns, deathclaws) are all there, which is nice. But if they were to spoil new weapons, new enemies, etc so soon, they wouldnt have anything left to spoil later.
----
So I just started playing Borderlands 2 that I got a few years ago. I'm really enjoying it...which I guess is no surprise.
I went to finish Skyrim this weekend because I thought I'd left it unfinished, then realised I actually had finished, just a bunch of side quests left. I really enjoyed it, but it didn't grab me like some people. I think I get bogged down in stuff rather than just enjoying the experience.
I'm working through Dragon Age: Inquisition atm. It's taken way longer than expected, because I loved the first two in the series, and had real trouble getting into this one. I started off being really pedantic about doing stuff and just got bored, but if I just go with the flow and do whatever takes my interest it's much more enjoyable. There feels like times you just need to grind a bit to get to the next stage which gets old, but once I'm back on the main storyline stuff it's just awesome.
I never played the Fallout games before. Lots of people have suggested I should though. It sounds like the kind of game you really immerse yourself in, and I just don't have that time atm.
Witcher 3 is on my list. Again, lots of people who like the same kinds of games I do have said it's their favorite RPG ever, yet on the other hand my cousin who I share a lot of games with, and we've always loved the same ones has had trouble getting into it. Maybe again it's one you really need to sit down and immerse yourself in for longer periods rather than just play here and there in spare time.
I've had weeks where I worked 75 hours and logged 30 hours of dota. If there's a will, there's a way.
Hence why I haven't bought it yet. I love the idea of solid gaming like that, but other than the odd weekend when I'm home alone I can't remember the last time I put serious time into a game. Every now and then I get drawn back into an MMO, but it's always short lived. I just don't have the time to commit to that kind of stuff anymore.
I still haven't given the number any attention.
Lazy is the wrong word tho. Being lazy is like, when you avoid doing something that you really should. Like not doing laundry, or sleeping in all day instead of being productive. I see no inherent value in reading that number though, so really we're just being smart and efficient in skipping it.
@Long games: Ya, I wish I had that kind of time anymore. I'm still happy playing borderlands for an hour or two every now and then though. Should last me for a good few months haha. There was a time when this kind of game would be done within a few days :/
In prep for the Steam Summer Sale, I've been playing games I've purchased in previous sales to make me feel less guilty about buying more.
Bioshock Infinite (I never finished the first two due to general anxiety playing the game, closed spaces, etc) was amazing. Great art, fun sniping, and a cool story. Anyone played the DLC? I'm looking to purchase it once the Bioshock franchise is part of a daily deal.
Dishonored is so far underwhelming. It seems like it could be good but I'm just not in the mood for it.
I just purchased Borderlands the Pre-Sequel. It's Borderlands alright. Enjoying it so far. Also got the DLC content which I've never done for a previous Borderlands.
Still playing a lot of H1Z1. This game is still thrilling and they've cut down on hackers so it's starting to feel like a legit game.
Witcher 3 is great, I'm still playing it. I like how open the world is and that you can go questing anywhere if want to take a break from the main plot. Second thing is how many choices you can make which have a big impact on how the game progresses. I reloaded a previous save once and took another dialogue and was surprised how different things turned out. Combat is nice as well, it's not too hard but you need to hang of maneuvering properly. And I came across one boss (elemental) that honestly made me fear I got stuck as he was so hard, basically he could kill me in one combo. 20+ tries in I finally figured out a decent way to beat it.
Looking forward to fallout 4 as well.
They could change nothing about Fallout 4 and I will insta-buy it. Looking forward to this.
Fallout 4 Release Date: November 10, 2015
Link with some gameplay showcases at E3: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/...-date-revealed
Its E3 week, check out those new games coming out!
With E3 and the Steam summer sale and Source2 around the corner the thing I'm actually most excited about is this:
Why did everyone love Fallout 3 so much? I played the first one, none of the expansions or anything, and I found it awful. It had good graphics, atmosphere, and story, but pretty much everything else sucked. I found the combat to be completely boring and unchallenging, and was dismayed to see that there were only like 7-8 different types of enemies. It seemed to just be a tedium fest where you explore every location in the world to get all the skillbooks, quitting at some point along the way.
Did the expansions improve dramatically on this?
Yeah, Fallout 4 is going to be amazing. Or it won't. Fallout 3 was still amazing though.
Fallout 4 is going to be amazing though.
I'm not an mmorpg fan but this trailer for the SWTOR expansion is awesome
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzq9epS2b1A
I want to watch that movie.
Anyone a fan of the hitman games? Just finished beating Absolution and was considering buying Blood Money on ebay for $10!
Does anyone have recommendations for entertaining iphone games that don't require internet? I fly a fair amount and my current stock of game is worn out.
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions for the iPhone?
I won't sell it here, but it's a fun chess-board rpg with a good story and a great character building system. I play it on my psp when I'm taking a dump.
FFT 1.3 is a difficulty/rebalance mod for PS1 FF Tactics. It's extremely good and extremely challenging.
I enjoy Final Fantasy 5 on my phone. It has rebooted graphics with added voice acting. Pretty cool. The FF tactical rpgs are very good. Many of the popular retro JRPGs are available on smart phones.
My roommate has been playing Fallout Shelter on her phone and she loves it. It's sounds like a typical tower defense game -- you have to manage your offense and defense and production of resources and all that stuff. FWIW, she's a very casual gamer.
Ashamedly, I have been playing Clicker Heroes. Or rather, I've been watching it play itself.
It's possibly the dumbest game ever, and it's free on Steam.
It even keeps playing itself when you close it. I.e. when you re-open it, it tells you how much you've won since you last closed it.
I just leave it in the background and giggle that it's still going.
I am on prescription opiates right now.
Original FFT was amazingly fun.
The game had tons of character classes, each with unique abilities. Characters could switch back and forth between classes and use the skills they had learned in a prior class. The world was deceptively large and players could beat the game having only explored a tiny fraction of the possibilities as far as character development and party construction.
Is it any surprise that I loved the calculator class?
I still have some open goals from FFT that I never got to. I.e. I never fully leveled up a summoner to learn the final spell that he can only learn in a single boss fight, if he's targeted by it and survives. Blue-mage style.
I never did the Deep Dungeon to completion, finding all the unique items therein.
FFTA on the GBA was pretty bad. The characters were all OP. I beat the game in no time, w/o ever grinding levels. The strategic challenge was so minimal that I didn't even care to grind out the exploration of the parts I'd missed.

Clicker Heroes still playing itself. It has hidden gems in the depths of the game. For something that you just glance at a few times a day, which has no strategic challenge for a huge portion of the beginning, it's fun.
The mid-game stages are super grindy, though. I'm sure it's gonna stay that way. Every time you re-start, you gain a ton of added DPS. Restarting is part of the fun. You zip through the early levels super-fast and get back to your grindy spot with more bonuses and stuff.
It's still a dumb game, but there are plenty of little bonuses and rewards to keep it interesting.
For anyone with a PS4 check out Until dawn, looks like a pretty cool "choose your own path" horror game.
I'm digging Darkest Dungeon. It's a pretty unforgiving roguelike dungeon crawler with a heavy emphasis on gothic themes and the frailty of its heroes.
I'm also digging Terraria since their huge 1.3 update. It's basically what would happen if Minecraft, Zelda 2, and Super Metroid had sex.
