"Oh, Internet" - A love song. - YouTube
The only way to be happy, to have meaning, to change, is to move forward with what makes your life better. When you do this, the person you are will feel and behave optimally, and the person you want to be and should be will evolve organically
Luis Suarez is a bit of a cock.
Meh, drugs whose sole purpose is to simulate pleasure are not my cup of tea.
The pleasure isn't simulated. It's very, very real.
In general, I don't understand people who won't try drugs. I can understand not doing it regularly or even only trying it once. I don't take any drugs except alcohol these days. But how are people not curious? Just for the experience if nothing else.
Ireland 3/1 to beat france with Bet365 this afternoon. Did anyone see Tonga destroy them? Value bet of the year so far
I don't want condone the use of cocaine in a social environment. Well I do but that's another subject. But if you're considering using a synthetic substance such as Vicodin to ease the pain then why wouldn't a natural pain reliever not be a better choice?
Poison? Oozing? Yes.
You should google it or something but the jist is it can cause infection that can seep down thru your jaw and into your bloodstream, eventually getting to your heart and killing you. I think that's pretty rare but there's plenty of bad shit that can happen before you get to that extreme. I there's any inflammation in your gum it's infected. If you can taste a light bitterness around it that's poison, which you're swallowing and allowing into your stomach.
Toothache is a horrible pain. Once it reaches a certain level, it's all consuming. You can see how all those crazy ideas of doors and string came about. I'm sure with a bit of googling you'll find someone who has had a go at removing their own teeth with some needle nose pliers. I'd take any drungs I could get my mits on to stop that pain. Not sure about the US, but over here you can get codein over the counter (co-codamol I think) which will at the very least take the edge off. But either way, you're gonna have to get it taken care of properly. Never mind poisen, the pain would be unbearable and you'd be suicidal long before you need to worry about poisen.
lol, a few years ago I pulled some neighbor kids tooth out with a fishing line tied to the back of my motorcycle.
I guess I worded that poorly. What I meant is, I'm not interested in drugs whose intrinsic value is to cause pleasure. Especially extremely powerful drugs which create unnatural levels for pleasure. I am happy with my pleasure spectrum of 1-100. I don't want to experience 1000 if the only way to experience 1000 again is through drug use.
The drugs I am interested in could possibly give sensations of pleasure, but it is not their sole purpose. Hallucinogenics fascinate me, because they offer an experience, not just a good feeling.
Not sure if this ramble has made much sense, but I think a very clear distinction can be made between pleasure drugs and experience drugs. If I am going to take drugs at all, I prefer the latter.
p.s. DanAronG, would you try crack? Inject heroin? I often can't understand why people won't try different foods, which I think is an understandable lack of understanding. But not being able to grasp why a person wouldn't want to try a drug whose effects and side effects are well documented, I cannot understand that lack of understanding.
I wouldn't try either now. But I prob would have smoked smack and crack and prob ice too if the opportunity had been there when I did such things. Of course it depends on the circumstances and I'm not advocating running out into a dodgy area trying to score some smack because you feel you've missed out. But if I was with some firends and the opportunity presented itself in a safe and comfortable environment I prob would have done it. That said, I wouldn't have jacked up but I don't think it is a necessity of the experience.
To be fair I made a sweeping statement that I don't actually believe myself, but the principle of the argument is not being curious about new things. Of course this has its limits. But I guess once you are a drug user and have experienced some of the wonderful thrills and experiences drugs have to offer, it seems odd that you wouldn't want to experience more.
Take MDMA or similar drugs. You could argue that they simply give you fake pleasure in terms of how they interact with your brain. But that doesn't sum up the experience. Taking MDMA with a group of good friends including a giril you are close with and boning, partying for a few hours, experiencing that strange closeness it creates with all of the group and then sharing it with a girl and then having sex with her is a pretty amazing experience and not one to be missed.
Ya, the MDMA scenario you describe is definitely intriguing. But at the same time I'm not really sure I want to head down that path. Having a co-conspirator makes doing things you deem to be wrong or bad very easy. In other words, breaking habits is very hard, but breaking shared habits is almost impossible without breaking off the relationship itself.
So pretty much my counter argument is that I am extremely fearful of dependency, as I have seen it's impact on many people first hand (lol anecdotal supporting evidence.) My fear of being enslaved by a substance is far greater than my curiosity regarding drugs. On top of that I simply am not all that curious about the type of drugs that predominantly offer pleasure as opposed to an experience.
Dude, as a fellow man, I strongly recommend trying the mdma thing with a chick, but it has to be one you are comfortable with. It truly is an experience you can't have without the use of drugs and there is something about the closeness you feel at the time, a sense of togetherness, a sense of feeling the moment, that truly is special. Just touching each others skin feels amazing, like you are some how connected. I'm confident you'd be glad you did and it is in no way addictive and nor would your relationship start to rely on it unless you do it all the time which just kills it anyway. Methodrome will work too but has horrible side effects where as mdma leaves you tired and a bit distant (similar to acid/mushies) but nothing more.
In fact, I would say the bonding feeling associated with mdma is arguably better than the effect of how it makes you feel music, although its close.
ya, I mean, I'll keep that in mind. The idea of sharing something like that with someone is pretty cool. Kinda like the "oneness" or loss of ego that can come from psychedelics.
Man, if you have a good starting point, wikisurfing is fucking awesome.
Here's a pretty interesting article on drug policy. This David Nutt guy seems like a champ.
Addiction Journal
A quote of his from the wiki page on MDMA
Quote:
The general public, especially the younger generation, are disillusioned with the lack of balanced political debate about drugs. This lack of rational debate can undermine the trust in government in relation to drug misuse and thereby undermining the government's message in public information campaigns. The media in general seem to have an interest in scare stories about illicit drugs, though there are some exceptions (Horizon, 2008).[89] A telling review of 10-year media reporting of drug deaths in Scotland illustrates the distorted media perspective very well (Forsyth, 2001).[90] During this decade, the likelihood of a newspaper reporting a death from paracetamol was in [sic] per 250 deaths, for diazepam it was 1 in 50, whereas for amphetamine it was 1 in 3 and for ecstasy every associated death was reported.
David Nutt is an absolute legend when it comes to drugs, although it shouldn't be necessary to say that, considering that he, er, does scientific studies and forms evidence-based views based on their outcome.
I've been taking MDMA on average once a month over the past year, and, as long as it's not overdone, I really don't consider it a dangerous drug. The high has always been great, and the comedowns controlled and expected. I've had too much a couple of times and blacked out, but apparently on those nights I've just ended up making lots of friends and saying some surreal stuff every so often. I appreciate your point, boost, about the pleasure spectrum, however you pay for the 4-5hr serotonin rush over the next couple of days and definitely know about it too, a standard Sunday comedown will normally consist of fatigue, lack of drive and nausea and if I've had a lot on Saturday I'll tend to be a bit nervous and paranoid on Monday/Tuesday too. It's the drugs that don't hit you the morning after, like cocaine, which are the biggest cause for concern IMO.
Just out of curiosity, what's the drug scene like in the States? If you go to a dance club here in Leeds you can expect the majority of patrons to be on something, mostly MDMA, X, mephedrone or any combination of the former.
Oh, and: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...endence%29.svg
Not too sure about the drug scene in the states other than the Republican Party's addiction to smack
The truth is far more dynamic than that. Drugs have been shown to have profound effects on human happiness and well-being. Psilocybin, for example, is probably about 100x more powerful in fighting depression than the money-making schemes of pharmaceutical companies, but don't tell that to people who wish to control societies and economies.
People make a mistake by boxing humans up into little structures and pieces, and don't realize that the personal and social value of drugs like DMT, psychadelics, hormone replacement, etc are off the charts.
Our culture's drugs are about control and productivity. Nothing makes good little robots like caffeine, alcohol, and zoloft. And nothing makes people who understand that love and peace saves the world than DMT and LSD and peyote and marijuana
holy shit... I heard "frontier psychiatrist" a while back, but never looked any deeper into The Avalanches. They lay down some sick tracks, and have even more impressive music videos.

my isp sent me a letter today regarding my illegal torrenting.
fuck right off imo
Is it that simple for them to know exactly what files you are dling via torrents? Ie can they know for certain it is an illegal file?
umm panic.
filesharing is legal. shows how much money rules society in something that is strongly designated as legal is still being used to punish people
I've never gotten one of these letters.
I've never really done much to protect myself from being detected. No peerblock/proxies/w/e. Maybe I should be more careful?
umm. yeah def panicking now -.-
pretty sure you can do fine if ur on a private tracker
the threatening to sue is more what im panicing about
what isp? scan and post the letter imo.
They are just trying to get you to stop, right? Then just stop... Seems simple enough?

you may be able to get somewhere with online research. one of the main tricks/purposes of this stuff is to get settlement money from people
also i copy and pasted this email from a website but its the same company same gist.
I'm not sure how your ISP handles these situations, but both of my notifications included emails forwarded from the copyright holders to my ISP with the IP address and what was being uploaded (torrented). My ISP did not provide my info to the copyright holders, but if they cut me off they would provide that info.
I wouldn't worry much about it unless you actually get sued. They threaten to sue everyone and their mothers to convince you to settle out of court. Unless they choose to make an example of you, that's probably as far as it will go.
Downloading copyrighted material is legal, uploading it is not.
I also don't think I'd rely on the idea that a private tracker would keep me safe. If I can get an account, MAFIAA members surely could too.
okay so my isp doesn't give out my personal information and my father says i have access to legal counsel if it comes to that. can i stop panicking now? it's been like a 3 hour anxiety attack @_@
They're asking you to respond which is basically 'cease and desist.'
Lol bikes, did you just go to your dad and tell him you're being sued for sterling porn? Did you show him the letter with the porn titles in?
Pretty sure uploading is still legal. It's the profiting off of uploads that isn't legal. That's why MU got crunched, they were specifically targeting profits for copyrighted material.
Unless I'm missing something, uploading is not legally any different than letting people watch your TV. There's just sooooooooo much money against filesharing that the legality isn't being upheld
i worded it far more delicately than that and basically said there is a chance i may be sued for copyright infringement for downloading movies and tv shows.
When I was young I learned that sharing is caring.
Then I grew up and learned that sharing is stealing.
i honestly dont know. it's really complicated law, but this is probably the best answer i could find
Is downloading music illegal if you do not upload anything. Where in the DMCA does it mention this issue
there is a reason why uploaders are not being put in jail. if it was illegal, the doj would be arresting people. also, the president of zuffa, who supports sopa quite a bit, claimed that it's not about going after those sharing the files, but those profiting off sharing the files
the law is just really complicated, but even dmca has exemptions. the real legal line looks to still be based in copy-for-profit
the whole Big Content copyright/filesharing battle is a fantastic example of how those who have money not only rule the society, but make oppressive decisions for the point of making more money, and attempt to quash innovation in order to save their oligopolies on the market
we should start a non profit that secures donations for legal defense of people being harassed by the IRAA, MPAA and so on. If I knew such a thing existed, I'd donate some change every time I downloaded something illegally. Kind of a use tax and a way to stick it to Big Entertainment.
I just click the virus porn ads.
itt we learn bikes is a lil bitch when someone threatens him with harsh sounding words @_@

Next time when downloading pr0n, get a good vpn and give them the finger.
Ok Hawk, don't fall into this trap. An example:
James Murdoch: illegal downloading no different from stealing a handbag | Media | guardian.co.uk
This guy says downloading illegally is the same as stealing a handbag. Except, when you steal the handbag and have it in your possession it's gone from the previous owner. When you download something, the previous owner still has his or her own copy he or she can still benefit from. It's definitely different.
The downloading is stealing metaphor is basically brought to life by the proverbial appendix, if you will, of the various businesses that have been blindsided by the internet. Basically, middlemen are not that needed anymore: any single artist, entertainer, author or whatever else that can produce content an get this to the market (which is exactly what he or she wants) in much easier ways, therefore reducing the actual cost to produce and therefore the amount that has to be sold to break even and start profiting.
Another point, we used to be able to buy CDs at, say, $10 a pop. $20 at most. CDs consist of wave tracks which are totally uncompressed audio files, coming in at an average of 50 MBs a pop 500 MBS for a 10 track cd. You can definitely hear the difference between a cd and an mp3, difference whih will be much more pronounced if you have the proper equipment. But today the audio industry (read: middlemen) want us to buy an 5MB mp3 at $1. Buy the whole disc for $10 to get 10 tracks. You basically get 50MBs instead of the 500MBs if you bought the physical copy for the same price. Except, you don't get a physical disc you can put in your bookshelf; it's delivered to you digitally. Previously you could lend this cd to a friend that he or she could benefit as well from. Nowadays this action is considered a crime, because if you lend your frined the mp3s you bought you still have them on your computer, therefore both of you could get benefit of the same copy.
Copying is not stealing, it's copying. The whole "you wouldn't steal a car" ad series was a total sham.
Slightly mitigating because I was like 11 but I think I'd have the same reaction today: I was trying to register a game with pirated/cracked/whatever serial code and it said it's expired and I should please email the game company to get an updated one.
So I did, and got a reply back like, "Haha sucker, we've logged your IP address and we're not gonna do anything to you but if at some point the company experiences any kind of financial difficulty we're gonn sue everyone on our list" and I was wetting myself for weeks.
BBC News - York Facebook hacking student Glenn Mangham jailed
I think its ridiculous that this dude is going to prison for this.
This is just a clear display of people in power having no clue and having antiquated misinformed ideas about what has happened. They don't seem to be able to put into words what damage was actually done, and when they try, they offer the most arbitrary reasoning for his extreme punishment. The judge implies that had it not been a multi billion dollar company that he hacked into, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal. What!? And it's claimed that it wasn't simply "harmless experimenting", yet that is exactly what it appears to be. If anything, it was beneficial to facebook, seeing as he made the exploit known without exploiting the company.
Seriously, fuck old people.
It's the kind of warped thinking you expect to see in America but is becoming more commonplace over here.
yes, the uk is becoming america-lite. you guys gotta put a quash on importing american bred corporate tabloid propaganda media
Oh, wow, that happened...
Bill caswell News, Videos, Reviews and Gossip - Jalopnik
Ugh. Canada's getting a case of lolmerica politics too with our conservative majority government now in power. They're currently pushing a new bill which will give police and government officials access to all your information from ISPs, which will now have to track everything we do, without a warrant.
Our public safety minister Vic Toews claims anyone against this bill is siding with child pornographers. Someone created a twitter account about him called VikiLeaks30 where they made several posts about his adulterous ways, messy divorce incidents, and public statements he has backed out on. So now our government has decided it will have to launch an investigation to find out who's behind this twitter account even though this information was already publicly available and not gathered by some illegal means.
how politicians use child porn to push agendas really irritates me. their arguments are akin to "if you dont support illegal searches and seizures of automobiles, you support child pornography because child molesters use cars". and the public just gobbles it up. this is just stupid. not even chimp stupid. it's like alligator stupid
I will never again give another penny to Hollywood. Never again will I go to the theater or rent a movie. They can go fuck themselves. They want to destroy the internet and destroy innovation so they can charge out the ass for entertainment and their attempted oligopoly on culture. This isn't about piracy, it's about them not wanting to change service and production to meet demand
Looks like ACTA has been getting beat down a little, but again there's a new bill worse than SOPA going through Congress. It will not pass, but these people are fucking looooosers. Fucking idiot looooozzzzers who whine and complain about not being able to charge you 25 bucks for two hours of trying to engage in popular culture. Fuck them, fuck their incessant destruction of culture and entertainment development, and fuck the billions of dollars this dynamic has allowed them to steal from people
the irony is that in order to stop racketeering, you have to be a racket yourself
This is what anti-piracy is about. It's not about theft or lost sales, it's about Hollywood being utter scum that want complete control over production. If they're not allowed to bribe politicians to pass laws that enhance their ability to force-feed you Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake, they'll be damned
This is big business we're talking about here. They care nothing for good, only for what their big muscles can rip out of your hands

The original purpose for patents and copyright was to keep things that benefit a society from dying with its creator. Many people with new ideas or products would keep them under wraps because it was too easy for rich people to rip it off.
We have bastardized this idea into claiming that the only thing that matters is personal ownership and money and blah blah blah. What matters is the social benefit, corporations controlling production and distribution channels is the opposite of what copyright was meant to be
