HOUSTON TEXANS.
need the eagles to cover for me to scoop mah centsports bets today
blah blah blah, when a team loses 40 out of 44 games, objective analysis of a team's future prospects comes off as 'hating' to fans of that team.
they have won 6 straight games (i don't count glorified practices known more commonly as preseason games), an obviously impressive feat, and they have arguably all the pieces in place for a run. we'll see what happens.
man these qbs are getting killed out there. it is impossible not to feel for them despite my hatred of doggyvick and matty ice
The thing that won't be mentioned today is that Fat Andy kicked twice on fourth-and-1, once at the goal line and once with a chance to put the game away.
It's just an accepted bad strategy, sort of the way incessant bunting in the first inning was in baseball years ago. It can't be +EV to kick in either situation.
I don't see any obvious reason why the Lions couldn't win the Super Bowl.
Lions need to take care of business next week at Minnesota and then we will find out a lot about them the next two games @Dallas and Monday Night vs the Bears.
I do. The other dominant teams in the league perhaps?
There hasn't been a dominant team in the league since the Pats got caught cheating.
Anybody see the lol-able decision by hte 49ers Harbaugh to take the 54 yard FG rather than take 1st and goal on the opponent's 22?
Thoughts on its idiocy? :D
{I Prob shouldn't be laughing. That decision helped me to lose $550. :cut: )
Ehh, I think it was pretty close. The FG made the score 24-14 so it was a 2-score game with 11 minutes left. You don't have Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers at QB, you have Alex Smith. A lot can go wrong from the 22 yard line with Alex Smith as your QB and even if you score a TD, it's still a two possession game. It was probably a slightly bad decision but it wasn't a horrible error or anything.
I guess the main offense I take to it is that even taking the penalty, then kneeling 3 times (an absurd proposition to be sure) takes off about 2:00 of game clock before you kick the FG again. And the cowboys basically needed every second left on that clock.
So really, unless you *really* think that your offense is going to turn the ball over if given the ball again, that decision doesn't make much sense. And this is all without even considering the very real possibility of scoring a TD there.
It's pretty bad IMO because of what e_l says. you have to count on your kicker making it from 40- and you have to count on your offense not to do anything horrendous. It's not much to ask.
poor chiefs, see u next year
lol yeah, wtf happened there?
odds that todd haley is coaching the chiefs in 2012?
omg lions. OMG. You're growing up so good!
Careful, don't catch that disease the Texans caught last year after going up 2-0.
Texas vs Lions superbowl ldo
[x] team on rise
[x] pass rush
[x] good QB
[x] playmakers on offense
[x] favorable schedule
[ ] good coach (undetermined)
If you look at the talent at the time, as opposed to what the players did the rest of their careers, I'd say the Lions are a lot better than the 1981 49ers (went from 6-10 to Super Bowl) or the 2001 Pats (5-11) to Super Bowl. This is no longer a league where teams like the Cowboys and 49ers and the Joe Gibbs Redskins load up every few years to win it all. Now teams get to the playoffs with rookie quarterbacks; championship-caliber teams plug in Charlie Batch and win games; people like Rex Grossman can play in the Super Bowl and wildcard teams with half their starters on IR can win it all.
@bob, was asking in jest about the chiefs

Deon Grant, Jacquian Williams Flop: Giants Players Fake Injuries Against Rams (VIDEO)
if i had complete control over the nfl here is what would happen:
both players would be fined and possibly suspended.
the organization and possibly the head coach would be fined.
new rules would be enacted such that an injury can never set a team up for a more favorable game situation, even if that involves making the rules more confusing for fans and/or giving the opposing team various choices not unlike a penalty.
ridiculous.
Injury fakers usually get yellow or red cards in football.
And in American football, pretty much any creative endzone celebration nets a 15 yard penalty and a fine. Yet 2 defenders can literally fall down out of nowhere at the same time, the team can laugh about it on the sideline, and the only thing that happens is they get a competitive advantage.
Nice catch. I like futball's policy better.
just watched bill belichick a football life.
v cool
I was hoping Vick would sit out this week against the Ants so we could showcase our third-string QB.
erm...the saints play the texans? The Eagles play the Giants
erm he said the Ants, as in the giAnts
MFer, I read 'Aints
I will probably watch the Belichick thing in the offseason. I'm sure it's good, I just don't want to see anything that might humanize him and make him sympathetic or even likable.
Meh. If I wanted to anger Lee I'd just state how bad it was not to take Reggie Bush.
trollolololol.
Texans GOOOOOOOOOO texans!!!
Figure this is a good place as any to post my gawdawful results so far this year since this thread is dead compared to year's past lol.
Bet History: Sharp Bet Tracker : Bets

Vikings M/L (+146)

I'll be honest, taking the reverse line movement here from -4 to -3 with 70% of action on Detroit
Patriots -7 (-102)
2 units at 5Dimes
With action coming in at about 50/50 on this, I'm not as worried about the movement from -8 to -7
Ravens -5 (-101)
2 units at 5Dimes
Yeah, public play, but I'm rolling with it anyway.
Parlay: Chargers -9.5, OVER 23

SRSLY, can someone figure out why it's not on? It was on last week and the week before :(
I blame Buffalo
Wes Welkah pass td from Tawwwwwm Brady
Gronkowski for President.
Wow refs, that was a fucking gift
Please direct me to the nearest suicide booth.
the detroit lions
What happened at the end of the Pats game? I saw after it cut over from the Browns win and Belichick was arguing with the refs. My hunch was that he didn't want the previous score to be overturned and wanted Buffalo's points to stay on the board.
I thought that was excellent strategy by the Bills to end the game.
If I have to watch the Eagles run more dumb plays on 3rd-and-goal from the 1 and then kick a field goal, I will join Bikes in the suicide booth.
Also what was up with the timeout? Did the refs just automatically assess them that for arguing?
Bills/Lions Superbowl.
WTF Vikings. How can you give up leads like that? It's like an entirely different team steps out after halftime. :cut:
WOOO!!! Seahawks actually won a game!
If we didn't win this, we probably get to 0-7 or so before we have another reasonable winnable game.
PAINTER
Holy crap Painter, engineering a game tying drive.
Then again, it's his fault that the Steelers had the lead lol

I will try not to rant about this all season, but I have to say this:
The fans and media in Philadelphia ripping Reid for going for it on fourth-and-1 are simply insane. There is 0 chance that punting is going to lead to a better win-expectation than going for it there. I'm not sure on the figures, but there has to be a huge percentage of punts from the opposing team's 40 that wind up as touchbacks. You have a rookie punter and you're basically netting 20 yards a huge portion of the time, or he ends up shanking a directional punt and it goes oob at the 18 or something, plus the times your coverage fucks up and give up a decent return and end up with almost no gain in field position.
You get a yard and you basically win the game.
Shady McCoy has actually been a tremendous short-yardage back in his short career, most notably converting a fourth-and-1 for a 50-yard TD vs. the Giants last year.
Which brings us to the real disasters in Sunday's game. The playcalling at the goal line was simply abysmal. Yeah, let's line up in a 6 OL formation and run the ball straight up the middle with the guy who has no speed and never ever carries the ball when you have Mike Vick and McCoy and you leave the deepest receiving corps in the league on the bench. Twice they got inside the 5 and came up with field goals, including one time with 3rd-and-inches.
When the Eagles took their first lead of the game, the hometown fans were booing...that's how awful that sequence was.
Calling it now. If the Texans win, I'll be rooting for a Lions-Texans superbowl, no exceptions. Otherwise, GB-Steeler repeat.
TOM BRADY
will hopefully not throw 4 interceptions this week
I would not want to be the raiders this week.
also sick time for tony romo to get hot
Texans looking solid. If only they wouldn't cheat so much and had drafted Reggie Bush, it'd be 35-0 by now.
The browns are looking like, well, the browns.
Until we can get a quarterback that can at least throw a proper spiral, we are going to continue to suck. A couple guys on offense that run faster than I do wouldn't hurt either. That the Colts could potentially go from Manning to Luck is just sick sick sick.
The defense had looked good up until this game but I'd imagine that is largely a function of playing the Bengals, Colts, and Dolphins. Now we can't make a tackle, and forget about actually covering somebody.
gg Texans.
i am not a cowboys fan or even close to being one. but its a fucking travesty watching tony romo play qb. they should easily be 4-0 right now instead romo has pissed away 2 games that were pretty much in the bag
The Eagles are officially a disaster zone right now.
All of the moves made in the past 2-3 seasons came back to haunt them today:
1. Safety -- Not having Plan B when they decided Brian Dawkins was too old. The 2009 season was lost because of this. Not drafting Earl Thomas (like everyone expected) in 2010, followed up by taking Nate Allen (Donovan McNabb's legacy pick) in the second round. Allen can't play.
2. The linebackers are nowhere near NFL caliber. Not signing a veteran LB in an offseason where they were making celebrated signings of backup QBs and third cornerbacks is inexcusable. Basically, this team has never developed a LB or S beyond the guys that Reid inherited 13 years (Dawkins, Trotter).
3. Rookie kicker misses two field goals.
4. Making your offensive line coach your defensive coordinator is pretty ballsy but looks pretty stupid right now. Three straight fourth quarter disasters in which the other team moved the ball at will.
5. Throwing the ball 90% of the time when you have a lead is standard Andy Reid.
6. Nnamdi looks terrible, and I don't know what to make of that. He looks like the fourth-best corner on the team.
7. The rookie 6th-round draft pick plays well at times at C but the interior of the offensive line is a major reason why they can't convert on third-and-goal every week.
Lions tho.
The Lions are still capable of winning the Super Bowl, so they're maintaining the status quo.
Romo is amazing.
vikings tho =(
OMG Lions wtf.
Also, season defining game won against the steelers today. Steelers + refs really. WTF, take two of our TDs away?
for Drmcboy:
CINCINNATI! tho
Funny, I started sportsbetting that season the Texans went 2-14 because I couldn't take the pain. Wanted to be able to at least be happy about something, and so while the Texans were doing absolutely horribly, my bankrollw as doing well.
Guess it's come around full circle now that my bets are doing horribly, but the Texans are doing well.

But YAAAAAAAY TEXANS!
Fistpuming so hard all day at work after that game was over.
Can't wait for MNF this week vs Bears. Fairley should be making his NFL debut next to Suh in passing situations, Cutlaaahh gonna die, eager to see who gets there first! :D :D :D
