this hands ate into my profit quite a bit.

villain is 52/12/2.5 over 45 hands. I told myself i would lead out the flop and then fold to a push. I just couldnt do it against someone w/ 52% VP$IP. In retrospect its pretty obvious i was beat.

yeah, i played this pretty bad. The preflop 4-bet min-raise screams AA/KK and i should have just c/f the flop.

havent updated in a while because i have only played 2 short 400 hand sessions in the last week. lost 3 buyins over that 800 hands, w/ 2.5 of those coming today. I lost AA < KK on a K high flop that i almost folded, and AA < QQ all in on the flop only to have a Q hit the turn.

Ill be able to put in about 1500 hands or so tommorow night so hopefully i can turn things back around and get closer to moving up to $100nl.

My BR is now at $2070 so i plan on playing $100nl full time now. I dont think i have any problems moving up as ive made all the transitions pretty smoothly so far. My BR will get some pretty nice non-poker padding w/ rakeback (which should continue to be more $ since im moving up), $400 in bonuses to clear at UB and i will be able to convert UB player points into atleast $50/week from now on.

GL at $100NL. I am still at $50NL although BR is at $2400. I have added one table of GBP$50NL (which is close to $100NL). Maybe I should just try this at Ongame as well. My winrate at $50NL is at 4bb/100 but it was in excess of 10 but I am on a downswing at the moment.

yeah, im more than willing to move down if i drop a couple of buyins. I feel like ever since i have moved to UB i have been playing really solid poker. I took alot of bad beats and wasnt flipping well in Jan and Feb. and then all of the sudden im winning the majority of my 60/40's and hitting a good patch of variance for once. Hopefully this continues.

Good Job. It's nice when it all comes together. I'm taking runs at $100NL myself. Slow and steady. You know what they say, the first $1K is the hardest, and they just get easier and easier.

i posted this in the march results thread, but im so proud of it i wanted to post it twice. I cleared $325 of bonus on top of this and will also get a $200 rakeback check for this month.

$100nl is off to a great start. There is a fairly small player base at this game on UB, and i feel like i am one of the top 2-3 players there.

On another note, i think its interesting how as i move up in stakes, i loosen up and become more aggro. It seems like it would be opposite this because i wouldnt be comfortable, but so far i havent been uncomfortable at all when ive moved up. I feel like the 20/15/4 game ive settled into is really good for me. My hands are getting payed off well and i feel like my 3-bet range is wide enough to keep villains playing back at me consistently.

fucking horrible night. Started by not hitting a single flop, not one fucking c-bet took down a pot, AA losing to 72o on a 4 flush board. I actually folded and only lost 35bb here. Then KK loses to a river strait for 75bbs then after a whole bunch of fucking spew, i decided to mix it up w/ this beauty.

As a precurser, i very, very, very rarely tilt. Im a really calm person and dont let shit get to me really, and i havent tilted at all since early November of last year.

This mother fucker played back at me so much, floated, 3-bet and showed down shit, so i had enough. This is by far the worst play of my poker career. :oops:

i know. atleast i can laugh about it now. I was just really steaming over my earlier bad play more than taking a shit ton of beats. Me and villain in that hand were playing on 3 tables together. I was on his direct left on 1 table and he was on my direct left on 2 others. It got down to heads up on 2 tables at once and he was 3-betting the shit out of my button raises and the one time i 4-bet him he folded and i showed him KK.

Oh well, thats my one tilt fest for the next 6 months.

quick update. Im on a 10 buyin downswing right now over the last 4k hands. ~2 of these have been tilt (see above) and bad play, but the rest is just serious variance and a sick amount of coolers. Ive only played those 4k hands this month, so i need to get in more hands. I put in about 1400 hands yesterday and dropped 2.5 buyins immediately within the first 300 hands. I grinded it out and made all but $75 back yesterday so it felt good to finally have a positive session.

I dont know how much im going to get to play the rest of this month as im fairly busy, but i would like to get to 20k hands still.

Oh fuckit. My downswing was over 12x buy-ins at $50NL. It did hurt a lot. However, I did have a break, examined my play a bit and am playing way tighter then before (I'm now 18/14 instead of 21/11. At last I'm playing at +7BB/100 at $50NL again.

Hope not all of the downswing happened at $100NL.

yeah, i never dropped below $2k so i just stuck it out at $100nl. Ive rebounded well yesterday and today so far and made $300 of it back. I should get a $175 rakeback check anyday that will put me up around $2600 again.

i put in a 500 hand session today at lunch and made $80. I played really well and would have made another $150 but i ran KK < AA on a rag flop and QQ < JJ on a J high flop.

nothing spectacular to update. Just grinding it out and trying to finally get my BR over $3k for the first time.

i played a 1k hand session last night and dropped an amazing 4.5 buyins. I dont know whats going on lately, but ever since i hit my 9.5 buyin downswing at the beginning of the month, i just cant seem to get it together. I grinded out 7 of the buyins i lost only to drop all of them again over the last week. Ill try to remember to post my graph when i get home, but its swingy like whoa!

So far over 13-14k hands at $100nl im running 21/16/3.75. I think i may be putting myself into too many marginal spots postflop, and my postflop game isnt as good as it needs to be to overcome those situations. I do feel that my postflop game has improve by leaps and bounds and my hand reading is much better. Im going to try to focus on getting back to a 19/15ish game where i felt the most comfortable. I ran 19/15 over all of $50nl and the first 5-6k hands at $100nl and was killing it.

Now i know this isnt my only problem. One thing that i have noticed is getting really frustrated when i take a bad beat (<4 outs). Of course these are always frustrating, but it used to be that i just shruged it off and continued playing my A game. I think its affecting me more now becaue losing $100+ to a beat actually is a good amount of money where losing $10 or $25 didnt really mean that much to me. Im going to really focus on not letting these things affect me because i know that bad beats, in the long run, are a good thing.

if anyone actually reads this, i was wondering if any $100nl/$200nl regs (or higher) would be interested in ghosting me for an hour or so one night soon. I think if someone could watch me play and help me throughout the session and give me some feedback on my play, it could really help me improve.

put in a nice 500 hand session tonight and won back 3/5 of the buyins i lost yesterday. about that thing i said about tightening back up to 19/15? yeah, that didnt happen. ended up running something like 25/19 and got paid off by all kinds of crap. My positional play was much better, and i just avoided all the marginal spots OOP.

yeah, AP and VP24/7 are so soft. Its just filled with loose/passive donks that get frustrated with you raising more than 5% of your hands.

BR hit $4k today. Ive been killing it ever since swiching back to the AP tables. About a week and a 1/2 ago my BR dropped back to $2100 again after building it back up to $3k at one point. I rode out the rough stretch and slowly built back up. Then, the last 3 days i have made $1100 :P

Wednesday night i played 1500 hands for +$420 in cash, and i won $30 more in the guantlet game. Thursday i put in 800 hands and made $400 and then i just played like 200 hands and made $250 at lunch today. I run so good.

I think im going to cash out $1k when i hit $4500 to build a deck on my house and just to reward myself for grinding this year. I think over the course of the year im making over $20/hr finally. It feels good to know that i have grinded $200 into $4k in just 4 months.

Let me ask you, What do you think was the biggest change in your game/prep/reviews, that caused your turn around. We both had approx. $300 or so the beginning of January. I hit a max BR of $3500 by late March and had a sick bout of crap play losing half, but you had a large jump lately that is telling me you did something different. You always had a better mental grasp than your results showed. Did you have to Dumb it down, play more hands, fix some leaks?? Or was it something pre/post game that has helped you get confidence back? I personally finally took a break, a long break, that has helped me get back to my winning ways, I was burned out, and just stopped thinking.

i cant really pinpoint what it is that has me winning again. I really think i just hit some standard variance, and then tilt/bad play caused me to lose more than what variance was taking. Then this week i have just been playing solid poker and riding a little upswing. I really havent tweaked my game as far as stats are concerned. Ive ran 20/15ish for a long time now.

My positional play has improved quite a bit recently, but i still have work to do with it. Ive stopped betting (read: spewing) so much OOP and just started seeing more multiway flops in position and letting my postflop play do the work.

i had a really shitty weekend after my heater last week. I played 2800 hands over the last 2 days, which is alot for me, and dropped 9 buyins. I really didnt play all that bad, but it definitly wasnt all bad variance (75%:25% probobly). My W$@SD for this strectch of hands was 38%, so variance is the key factor right here. There were 2 150bb hands that i overplayed and lost big pots with, but one of them i think was justifiable.

Villain and i had played back at each other a fair amount, and he is something like a 25/7 type thats fairly aggressive. Ive seen him overplay hands before. I just couldnt put a 3 in his range. I know i need to bet this flop and probly repop the turn.

ive never ran this bad in my life. Started out my second session of the day immediatly down another 3 buyins, mainly because of these 2 hands.


villain is running 72/44/4.5 over 75 hands. he is betting every flop, and hasnt shown down the goods yet. he loves to min-raise pre, and ive seen him do it postflop a few times too, mostly on teh turn and river. i suppose i should just call river, or even fold.

i had a really shitty weekend as far as poker goes. Dropped another 4.5 buyins over 2k hands do to pure spew after getting sucked out on 3 or 4 times in a short period. After another -1.5 buyin session yesterday morning, i decided i would take the day off ring and play some donkaments. I played the $3 r+a and bubbled, and 2 sats to the Sunday Mill on stars. After spending $90 on sats and bubbling both, i decided to just buyin direct, since i am a huge idiot. I played really well the whole time, but bubbled it also. Mix in 1/4 ITMs in the $16 turbos and a horrible showing in the $11 1r+1a and i finished down a shitload yesterday. It was very reminiscent of last novembers MTT tilt that took me from a $500 BR back down to $250.

BR is sitting at a whopping $1700 right now, and im completely pissed about it. Back to $50nl for 5k hands atleast, no matter how much im up (or most likely down). I have about $350 or rakeback getting paid out this week, and i should clear the $150 stars reload bonus in about 2k hands at $50nl. Im going to go back to grinding, and more importantly paying attention to everything. Ive been playing absolutely terribly my last 10k hands and my results have shown.

I wasnt going to even post anything about yesterday, especially buying into a $215 tourney, but i want to be accountable for my bad plays and stupid actions as well as the good ones. This operation thread is about my progress, or lack thereof, and getting this shit off my chest and hopefully being berated by people who read this will get me back on track.

Stop thinking about the losing, as hard as it is, think about the long term future of your game, your roll and where you want to be when poker is back in full swing. Settle in and position yourself for another run. You bottomed out at $300 the first time. You bottomed out at $1700 this time, and next time it'll be $5K, then $10K. Ride the wave, enjoy the ride. Think about everything you've told every other beginner here. Shit happens, get used to it.

Seems like we all are in the same boat guys. My BR was hitting $3k last month but was then decimated below $2k by the beginning of this month. I have been playing less but with more focus, watched some CR videos, moved to the softest site I knew (Everest) and played $50NL again. Now my BR is over $2500 again and I play $100NL with confidence.

Come on guys, we started on a pretty level playing field. It would be a shame if we don't pawn $400NL by X-mas this year ;-) But all it takes is discipline, confidence and motivation. Without any of those three I would not play Poker.

I know that this is the absolute bottom for me right now. Im going to grind out $50nl again and might not even play $100nl until i hit $2500 this time.

As for letting the Op die: I want this thread to be my all encompassing journey through poker. I want to be able to look back in a year when this thing is 8 pages long and see how i progressed through the limits. I think $400nl is my goal for the end of this year. I want to have a $10k roll by christmas, and I think its acheivable. All 3 of us are in the same boat and we all should be able to get there by '08.

lol, not even close. Ive only played about 1000 hands in the last week and 1/2. Ive been building a deck on my house so thats taken up almost all of my free time, and its race week around here (indy), so the rest of my weekend will be spent at the track getting hammered.

I hope to start playing alot again next week. Ive done this thing where i drop from $3k down to $2k and back 3 times now, excpet this time it was $4k back to $2k. I just hope this is the last time it happens. Im going to grind out another 4-5k hands at $50nl this week and see how it goes. If everything goes as planned ill be back at $100nl in a week. These breaks are usually a good thing for me, so i plan on coming back and playing great poker.

This is what I think about a ton now. For all of us lower-stakes grinders we need to have our games in good shape and have our rolls where we want them when poker comes back whether it be through legislation changes or Asia becoming much more predominant in the market.

I hope you are right. I just want to be playing 2/4 by the beginning of next year, which i think is a reasonable goal. $100nl & $200nl will take me a while to get through though. $200nl more specifically, because i dont think my mental game is where it needs to be to beat the more thinking players.

This break will do me good, and i plan on being back in the swing of things on monday night.

I put in my first real session in 12 days last night. 850 hands for +$40. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. I was up $120 or so in the middle of the session but dropped a buyin when a 60/6 villain caught 2 pair on the river.

i plan on putting in alot of hands the next 2 days, so hopefully im back over the $2k mark by saturday.

i forgot to update after my night of donkaments on friday. I busted out of the $3 R+A at the beginning of the second hour to another big stack (both of us had 20k stacks) when we both flopped straights with AKs and he rivered a flush. Played the $27.50 FO well and bubbled it, but i was happy because i played really well the entire time. Played 4 $22 180 mans and FT'ed one only to bust in 9th. Came into the FT with a little over an average stack. Raised AKs from UTG+1, c-bet the paired flop and had to fold when he pushed over. A few hands later i got it in vs a shorty with 99 vs his TT and didnt suck out. Very next hand i open pushed 99 again from UTG and got called by JJ. GG me.

I love playing donkaments but i couldnt do it exclusively because it pisses me off too much to play good poker for 2-3 hours only to have 1 beat/bad play leave you with nothing to show.

donkaments again tonight. Playing the $3 R+A, the $27.50 deepstack, a $22 180 and a $10 180. already busted out of teh $22, and have a good stack in everything else.

heres my last 2 weeks in a glance.

9 days of donkaments, completely break even.
last friday: got my $150 stars bonus and made 3 buyins at $50nl.
Saturday: took a shot at $100nl. Won 1 buyin over 1k hands.
Sunday: blew through 2.5 buyins in 400 hands, back to $50nl
Monday: +2 buyins, back down at $50nl of course.
Today: started at +1 buyin over 200 hands then tilted off that plus 3 more in the next 300 hands.

Hey Bode,
I just checked out your OP thread for the first time. Nice progress since last year. You'd really been killing it before May. I especially like that you didn't censor out the embarrassing things like buying into the Sunday Mil. I think you are better for being honest with yourself and holding yourself accountable.
As far as poker goes, IMO you hit it right on the head in an ealier post. I have been in your position before. You need to go back to playing a little tighter and keeping yourself out of marginal situations. When you were grinding it up, you probably played better at a tigher VPIP/PFR. It is so much easier not to make those marginal decisions.
You may need to really and I mean REALLY re-dedicate yourself to being disciplined. When I cashed out most of my roll, I couldn't regain the discipline I had at 100NL while playing 25NL. My ego was just too big, and I thought I could outplay the guys at 25NL. I found out real quick that 25NL and 100NL are pretty similar and in a lot of situations you NEED the cards. Of course getting paid when you have the cards is where the real money is made. Your aggression level should get you paid plenty.
Finally, maybe your bout of recklessness/tiltiness stems from playing at a stake where losing 5 buy-ins has more meaning in everyday life and you can't shake it off as easy. If that is the case, I would combat that by playing more 50NL and building a bigger roll. Afterall you blew through there pretty quick. I would also only move up levels after earning enough in actual poker winnings to justify the move. I would use bonuses and rakeback as padding and live poker bankroll etc. I am not suggesting you blow it, but don't use it as a gauge of when your bankroll is big enough to move up. Another tip is playing 50 GBP games if you can find them. Stakes look the same. I used to do that at Crypto as a warmup for the next stake.
I don't know much about you, but if you're like the rest of us. You might need to define your goals for the next year. You have made enough to get to 100NL where you first encounter numbers of decent players. Are you trying to make money or become a better poker player? The two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive, but they are very hard to accomplish at the same time. If you want to make money keep multi-tabling as much as possible(no shame in that either). If you are trying to expand your game, you might consider dropping down to 2-3 tables and putting more effort into hand reading, betting tells, etc. It takes a ton of discipline because you don't have as many AK's rolling by every hour and you get antsy to play crap or overplay your reads, but it will improve your overall game.
