At least you've made 1400 in fpps already
gonna just 6 table today and work on a few things
284k vpps almost 28k on month
there is a pretty simple reason why I downswing 4+ times a week and have a shitty win rate...
I need to work on my game selection.
It wouldn't also have anything to do with playing CAP which has razor thin edges compared to 100bb's would it? :) ... but, yes game selection is important, too, as is any decision that allows you to have more edge.
so m2m take us through a day in the life of 'the boss'
in all srsness how awesome is it living the dream? AND BOOKING THE FLIGHT IMO! 3 DAYS! YOU CAN GRIND SOME IN YOUR ROOM AS WELL OR COME PLAY LIVE IMO!
brag: So I just booked my first win in a 1000+ entrants MTT.
beat: it was a $4 entry and I only won $750.
brag: I am in another MTT at the same time of similar structure, but larger buyin ($33), and place fourth for $1,395.
beat: I lose KK vs AKs bvb all in pre while stacks are all near equal.
variance: I was down 2k in EV at cash yesterday and now this.
:shipit:
300k milestone passed.
699,999 VPP to go.
congrats buddy!
keep it up

you simply have an amazing work ethic
Hyperdrive grinding, more like.
heheQuote:
I dunno what it is but something just clicked in my mind that I have the power to change my life so I am going to do just that by sacrificing freedom now for freedom later. I mean I always knew this yeah..just never really felt it.
I wouldn't really say I have amazing work ethic. I'm just bored and have no life so I grind a ton - although I guess I do balance pretty well with spending time with gf/doing other things but I don't really wast much time going out getting drunk every weekend or shit like that. I also haven't played video games for more than 5-10 hours this year and that definitely helps translate into more free time for poker. I won't be getting back into golf this summer as it is just way too time consuming...so I guess I'll be lacking a good taste of the outdoors, but it's just a sacrifice I'm going to make to get my career moving forward.
I'm at 315k VPPs and just unbanned myself from 25/50 so hopefully things will go well over the next couple of weeks as I leave for NYC May 2-6.
hopefully everyone's grind is going well and ship it holla its spring and I see GRASSSSS!!!!
latar
Don't underestimate what a round of golf a week could do for you poker wise. Just getting out and doing something you like for 4-5 hours is nothing in comparison to the time your spending online and would really benefit your mental state. Are you in the gym or working out at all?
Also, hitting a bucket at the driving ranges takes < 45 minutes a coupla times a week.
Trust me, I'm as much of a home-body, focused-on-workaholic as there is (don't watch TV for example), but I do have hobbies and I do play better when I'm active in some other things. I do better at my real job, too.
Same with taking breaks in general. I often hit my larger downswings when I play for many days in a row 10+. maybe that's just me but I need time off to relax and do some other things so I'm not stressing on the grind 24/7...speaking of which talk to ya in a week ;)
ahhh eff me I made it sound like I wasn't going to swing a golf club at all.
I guess I really meant I won't be getting a golf membership or playing on a regular basis. I will be making frequent visits to the practice area however. I'm going to split about 70:30 for practice in favor of my short game. My plan is to go 3-5 times a week after dinner for about 1 hour. I likely won't play more than 5 rounds tops this year though. Me saying I'm not going to golf period was a bit harsh :O. I used to golf 5-6 rounds a week + practice for hours so to me 'giving up golf' still involves golf to some degree :D. I probably won't get a tan at all this summer because the time of day I will be doing this is somewhere between 7-9pm.
I've been cycling a few times a week to stay active but it isn't really enough. I haven't been to the gym lately and I am glad you came by to ask this because it makes me want to get back to it. I won't be able to get on schedule though till sometime in May because I have my birthday, easter, and vacation all coming up before then which is going to mean a lot of non standard days. Once I am ready though I need to sit down and figure out some sort of routine. Lately I haven't had much of a routine at all so I think that has made it difficult to get motivated to going back.
In order to improve my health somewhat I've been thinking about going on a daily muti-vitamin. I am probably lacking some essential nutrients given my random diet. Is there any specific brand you would recommend jyms?
GNC mega will be fine and take about 6gms of Omega 3-6-9 to start. When you know more about what your doing in the gym you can add others. I would take those now and always though.
Thanks for the recommendation jyms.
VPP month: 73,128
VPP year: 329,453
Bit behind where I'd like to be since I'm taking the first week of May off but April has been a pretty eventful month both on and offline. Hopefully everything works out for the Americans and their funds. As for my own I requested a check for 2.5k on Saturday around 9pm and still haven't gotten confirmation on it being processed.
Well it's been a week since the black friday of poker for the usa. I guess I went on a bit of a heater since....
http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/3...lackfriday.png
some would call that a heater
black friday= gold rush
<insoviestrusha> too many ppl focus on the bentley

Keep that up M2M!
You ever get that coaching? I'm a stalker...
Sorry should have been specific. YourDoom.
I went ahead and added to your reputation. Only because i might have more money then u for this moment.. though after that 20k upswing it is highly doubtful.
hoping u hit SNE and mirroniare by 2012.
hah, thanks luck. trolls be trolls.
oh sick, I found out that someone negative posted because of this
http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...ml#post2031192
rightfully so! hahaha, I deserve that.
Haha yeah the reason I asked you was because he seemed sketchy.
How the hell do you see when you got reputations? I'll add to yours too haha.
Edit: Ahhhh figured it out!
He green now.
Tradeoffs etc...
I've been playing fewer tables, starting more games, and giving heads up action to anyone who wants it up to 25/50 CAP and 5/10 deep. I think not being a leeching scumbag bumhunter *cough*Scout362*cough* is not only good for others, but it's really good for YOU because you won't stagnate as a player having to only rely on someone with a minimum 40 VPIP as a source of profit. Over the past 100,000 hands of doing so my win rate has been higher, and I'm up a ton of money from the tables thanks to running good.
The sacrifice I made is my VPP accumulation has been slipping, so, for the last couple days of the month I'm going to put forth an increased effort into getting more volume/more hands per hour. This will mean wait listing more and overall playing in lower quality games - however - the last two days of the month fall on a weekend so game quality shouldn't be that bad and I should be able to maintain solid expectation at the middle limits. I will mostly be mixing 2/4 and 3/6 CAP as the VPP accumulation at said levels is indeed quite satisfying.
It's all about balance...
Speaking of which, I leave Monday to take my first vacation of the year.
Duration: 1 week
Destination: New York City
Purpose: Ballin'
off to NYC
be back next weekend
SLACKER.
slacker indeed. been back from nyc for a week and haven't gotten much volume in....need to start getting into grind gear.
also while in the big apple I met boog and surviva. we had a pretty good time talking about randomness while i was intoxicated, displaying my ever so obnoxious canadian accent. we hit up the best street vendor in town and ever since i tasted that amazing grub ive been craving it multiple times a day. I hope to return to the ny area soon, ideally manhattan so I get the chance to hit up 53rd and 6th for some real legit street food once again. yea thats right..im gonna go back to nyc for a street vendor.
out
Now I want chicken, rice, and lamb :(
Next time you gotta get the white sauce though!
Any nice restaurant/bar recommendations for NYC?
*Feigns surprise that BooG likes lots and lots of white sauce*
Idk I can't do white sauces. I never eat mayo, tzatziki, ceasar....its always gotta be color or clear for me haha.
Pizza: John's Pizzeria
This place is awesome. Simply the best tasting pizza I've ever had - next to some place I went to in Italy. There is perhaps better pizza in NYC, but this place is worth trying. It's right near Times Square, and has a pretty nice atmosphere. Prices are great too. I think a basic pizza starts at $12 (feeds a hungry adult) and then you add whatever toppings you want for additional $. Sample size was 3 visits. It's a nice 'sit in' pizza restaurant, not like domino's or w/e.
Sophisticated: Welcome | The View Restaurant at the New York Marriott Marquis
The View Restaurant, which is NYC's only revolving restaurant, gives you a 48th floor rotating view of midtown Manhattan. The atmosphere is pretty chill, service was excellent (sample size of 2 visits) and views were great. There is something about eating in the sky that makes a dining experience very relaxing and enjoyable. Be prepared to bring some $ though. The buffet in the lounge is $35, glass of wine $15-$25, premium liquor $16+ an ounce, and the (3 course?) dinner is $79+ (depending on what you order, probably will run $100+ a person and that's not inc. drinks.) I didn't eat in the restaurant section but opted for the buffet (which is a floor higher!). If you just want dessert in the lounge I think it was $20 (there is a cover charge though for the lounge if you go after 8:00pm).
Street:
hopefully that was of some use. I ate street food or Chipolte mostly for lunch when I was out during the day so didn't get a chance to try a ton of restaurants. I think for my next trip to NYC I'm going to stay around Hell's Kitchen and just spend the entire time restaurant hopping. Maybe boog can fill us in on some gems around manhattan?
Thx I'll check those out if I'm in the area.
Do you guys know any sports bar where we can see the Hopkins fight? Lol sry to derail the thread!
are you in NYC right now?
no worries about derailing. it's not even derailing since there isn't any specific direction this thread is going other than VPPs are being accumulated.
someone please answer alexos' question because I do not have the answer
Nah, I'll be there this weekend.
Found some 2p2 recommendations : villagepoorhouse and warren77. Good enough for now ty!

Random Life Update
I'm extremely tired as I spent the entire week working on getting things together to buy my first home. I had been looking casually up until now so I went ahead and sought out financing etc. The lender approved me with ease (surprising as hell given that I'm a poker player wtf?) though I have been working with a really good mortgage broker and he ended up getting me a really solid rate. I've looked at nearly 10 different properties and it's come down to a tri-flip between a brand new town home on a fairly busy street (but is close to grocery, beer, liqour, and drug store), a brand new bungalow in a very sought out area on a premium lot on a quiet street, and a 5 year old two story home with a finished basement with a fairly neutral level of desire lot.
Bungalow: It's the priciest, and the real estate agent said there was almost no room to negotiate price with the builder because they ended up changing the main level flooring to hard wood after it had been priced as it is. This is a pretty significant thumbs down for me as it is at the very top of my price range. There is literally nothing to not like about the place though.
2-Story: This one has some room for negotiations, but its a bit too big for me being 3 bedrooms. 2 will always remain empty and the main floor has a space for my office so I be using any of the bedrooms as one. Given that, its not very practical for me, however it was really nice and just about everything in the house appealing (large living area, kitchen w/ island etc)
Town Home: It's the cheapest of the lot, but probably the most practical. I'd get better use out of the space, and since I plan on getting it in a 2 bedroom design, the master bedroom will be exceptionally larger than any of the other homes (in fact you probably wouldn't find such a bedroom in a house that is sub $500k in the area). Also when I say its the cheapest, it is by no means the 'cheapest'. I think the town home was the nicest of the 3 including both the interior and exterior. The finishes were pretty exceptional, contemporary, and really felt like it suited my style.
With the town home I'll be able to have an identical layout and then customize the finishes on the inside. So kitchen/floors/paint/lighting etc will all be taken care of before moving in. Also, each model comes standard with an island in the kitchen which is pretty cool. After writing all this out I feel like its a no brainer I'm going to go with the town home. I'll get some pics up the next time I check out the model. I feel somewhat overwhelmed with all this so I'm going to sleep on it for a few days and make my final decision next week. My girlfriend will be moving in with me so we'll talk it over and come to a decision.

Good luck in your decision regarding a home. I'm still interested in the VPP accumulation thingy. I'm glad you're not American because you've put too much effort into this OP. GoGoGo!
I can understand that 'overwhelming feeling'. I just went through the whole process and it's always going to be more work/hassle than you expect, but i think it's gonna be awesome once you move into your new place.
Townhome sounds good, looking forward to pics. Is it a summer 2012 move-in?
Also, if you don't mind me asking, where do you live?
I live in Kingston Ontario. The town home is brand new and located in Amherstview (suburb just outside the city). The house itself is already built, they just haven't put in floors/kitchen etc so all that will be customized based on my preferences. If I go with it it will be ready by the end of this summer. I'm going to the open house tomorrow of the one that is finished on the inside so I'll try to remember to get some pics. I talked it over with my gf and my parents and I'm going to contact the real estate agent to put in an offer in the next couple days.
Alright update with the house thing. I'm meeting with our RE today to get the paperwork together and place an offer on the town home.
Also I need to wire like 50k from my poker account to my bank account and wondering if anyone here has any experience wiring large amounts of $ to their bank and what the process you go through...like how long the $ is held etc...
Hopefully the developer accepts my offer because I don't plan on settling for anything more :S
The building company accepted my offer on the town home so I've got an appointment later this week to take care of all the custom stuff like kitchen/bathroom.
All is conditional on financing not falling through but the mortgage broker I'm working with said it should fly no problem so it looks like I'm going to be a home owner!
The American Dream except in Canada.
So when they asked what you do for a living you said Online Financial Redistribution Broker?
Great news! I told my mortgage broker "Online Poker player" and she laughed and then said 'are you serious?', i said yes and then she said i'd have to up my downpayment, when I said that's no problem she never brought up the subject again :P
thanks!
hah, that sounds more official. I'll have to remember that for people I need a quick out against when being asked about what I do.
aha, I was worried about my broker not taking me seriously so I made sure to wear my nicest shirt/pants/belt/shoes I have and when I told him I play online poker he seemed pretty impressed - which is shocking as hell because usually people laugh if I tell them I play poker so I tend to just not tell people :|
met with kitchen person yesterday and picked out the designs for cupboards/counter/layout etc.
I go back later today to make some adjustments and then get my price quote :O
PICS OR HOUSE DOESNT EXIST LDO
Congrats Ryan. You're a total beast
grats....
Funny a car is too expensive but a house is all good! :)
I kid, at least this could be a good revenue generating asset.....
Alright I said I'd deliver, here:
House Update | three-pair.com
d000d thats some sick shit....congratulations...2 bedrooms and an office, cant argue with that.
Thanks man.
It's probably seen as a huge brag, but regardless I hope it can motivate guys playing lower stakes to work their ass off because you can do this too if you're able to put in the time. I remember what really motivated me when I was grinding micro's was looking through threads at 2+2 and seeing guys posting pics of their BMW's/Lambo's/condo's/mansions/watches anything with a big price tag. That's not to say that material goods are all one should strive for in life/poker... but if that's what really pushes you to get moving then use that as fuel to give that extra effort.
I had a negative net worth 2 years ago and was complete busto. Now I'm buying a house and have lots of nice stuff. Impossible is nothing imo, Adidas was definitely on to something back when they launched the fleet of advertisements with that slogan.
nice work on house and vpps accumulated dude!
Congrats man, I remember when we were bustos grinding dat 5nl, now look at ya!
MAH BABY'S ALL GROWED UP :tear:
So upset I can't even attempt to do this sort of thing anymore. :(
Hey dude, noticed your graph in SHNL.. very nice!
At what point (if any) during your success at 10/20+ do you think you'll realize that you're better off grinding more of these higher stakes than mass grinding lower stakes for SNE?
good question..I guess I will just have to see how my results are once I get a decent sample in at higher stakes. Only problem there is its tough to get much volume in a short period of time due to games constantly breaking/being unavailable/unplayable so only time will tell.
This isn't meant to be a bitching post. It's more of a, 'rofl are you serious' post.
~100 buyins below EV at 1/2 CAP:
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/241...elowevrofl.png
most rigged stake ever imo. dunno if its possible for me to show lifetime profit here.
How's that house coming along? Evil. I kid. But wasn't it you who would go balls ass crazy when someone would talk about their EV line?
Yeah it was but when I realized how much money I'm down @ this stake I had to check it for sake of retaining sanity lol.
Closing date is July 29th. Everything seems to be going smoothly. I've got all furniture/appliances ordered and set up for delivery.

That's 20BI in my book... What kind of a fag bitches about 100k hand runbads anyway?
