Hardly played at all in december. I got about 20k hands in for something like +$1.5k. I've started a new DB for a new year so no graph or anything because I can't work out how to go back to the old DB.

I spent most of my december relaxing with family. I decided against the $3k bonus because it would have been too much work at a time of great festivity and joy etc. etc. I bought a couple of new things for the grind, a new mouse and weird gamepad thingy.

I'm in the process of working out a comfortable way of programming the keys so that it's as intuitive as possible (atm in conjunction with mouse but when I get it right I think I will be able to do everything with the left hand and maybe make notes on my laptop with my right).

Anyhoo, I played 15k hands today (most ever in one day) because I am a saddo and I'm thinking about SNE. Reallly swingy day, I went from +$800 in 500 hands to -$650 at 7k hands. Finished the day with +$897 but as I was 24tabling I guess that's an ok winrate. I think I can do better though...

I'm working on a few leaks and I think I'll just see how January goes but this may not happen at all. First time I've played the mill. Field is incredibly soft, more so than I imagined and I'd always heard stuff about it. I think I made a few mistakes, it was my first major online tourney and my first tournament for many many months tho so that's to be expected. I ran incredibly good in places and all in all I'm pretty pleased and not too disappointed on missing out on $205k...

Anyway, ship the 4k day imo! :D

To be honest I think the best thing you can do is specialise. Find a game you enjoy or that suits your style and play it until your fingers bleed. If your only aim is supernova then full ring is probably the easiest as it's much easier to multi-table full ring than 6max. I think the higher stakes SnGs are quite good FPP earners, but as I said I don't think it matters too much what you choose to do, just do it and work hard!

I don't know if I conveyed my thoughts well or not or you could read it through all the chatter but I'll say it again just incase.

On that board against his backraise with most of our range its a wa/wb scenario. In which we are always WA because most of his range is mid pp's he is turning into a bluff or maybe a AQs AJs type hand. Against all of these hands we are way ahead of his range on that board.

It doesnt seem very +EV that we would raise our monster made hands on this board. Because we want him to continue his 'bluff/inhismind valuebetting' we would call atleast the flop and jam either the turn or river with our monster made hands. We would probably raise our draws on this flop.

If he is a thinking player he knows this. In which case we should float with our huge draws and raise our big pairs to make them look like draws and if he thinks he will make the mistake against our hand a good portion of the time. The standard multi tabler will see that there is a committing raise on a drawy board and he has a pair AI and take a flip. I'm guessing the level of thought isn't enough to discern that we are a level ahead of him always in this situation and we can always make the correct play with our hand against his mid pair range.

Villain is a 16/13 reg, aggro 3bettor who I've warred with quite a bit in the past. Crucially though, the opener is a donk who will stack off light preflop so I expect him to 3bet QQ+/AK a huge percent of the time...

I was having such a hard time putting him on a range and really my only thought was get it in and i didn't want him to call then me not have odds on the turn when he shoves but i guess if I shove turn that's not a problem.... It's such a messed up hand.... I think you are right though and maybe I played the hand sub-optimally but it's really an unusual spot.

Anyway, your comments about this hand made me think quite a bit differently about backraising and I today I got AK>AQ in with 120ish stacks when I would probs have played differently before our conversation yesterday so thanks! :)

2)Super nits most likely folding AQ pre...maybe open limp on the button. I've seen a reg nit open limp AQ on the CO and Button numerous times. Has anyone seen a nit showdown AQ without checking down?
3)Don't call unless your confident your going to stack them. They don't play much postflop. When they are in there they have something. You better have 1 up on it - they tend not to let go of their big hands.
4) Min raise their blinds. Lowest risk for gaurunteed return. If they 3-bet the have the nuts. If they try to adjust by calling a leading or whatever just start making a standard raise. (This only works if the sb is weak as shit too though). The classic way to take their cash though is stack them with a set on their overpair - which will help you with numero 3, since your just going to set mine against their raises.

oh yeah, you might wanna check top/top behind on the turn if they call your flop bet on a dry board with an ace and check it over to you on the next street.

Having a really tough time atm, I feel like a lot of the regs are adjusting to me because I'm at the tables a lot and I'm a step behind. I know where my exploitable leaks are (and yeah I'm going to post them here lol regs look away please), I fold to steal too much, I fold to 3bets too much and I play bad in 3bet pots (biggest leak.) Because I'm afraid of screwing up in 3bet pots, I'm folding too often even in position and regs are picking up on this and just 3betting the shit out of me :(

Meh, we shall see how this goes.... atm I'm really not happy with how things are going and it's putting me on life tilt a bit (ie. I feel shit when I'm doing college stuff because I'm frustrated with my poker play which really shouldn't happen.... O well, I just finished a decent session which makes me feel better but I'm barely above break-even for over 100k hands which is obviously a monumentally epic fail!!!!

I've thought about giving up SNE and grinding less tables but I don't think I would have the motivation etc. Grinding SNE at 1/2 for 1ptBB will bring in just under 200k which is like enough for a house.... It's just mental to think about in those terms so I just need to maintain focus and hopefully I can not go crazy and improve at the tables. Gonna watch a couple of poker vids tonight and hopefully I can plug some leaks and stop playing like a retard in 3bet pots!

sounds so easy huh! I've been thinking about these things a lot recently - it seems to boil down to ranges, playing the player, and adjustments (the more I think about poker, the more this seems to be the answer to most poker questions). Maybe even re-examine your HUD set-up to help plug these leaks.

Also, have you considered varying your bet-sizing some - dependent on situations. I don't run any scripts while playing, so type or slider all my bets - not sure what does regarding reads?

I'm intrigued by your op - I'm not coming off contract until a few months from now, otherwise I'd be looking seriously at SNE. Maybe 2010....

Its 6-max, but he does go into some detail on how to deal with getting 3-bet constantly. It really opened my eyes on how to 3bet light to get people to back the F off of you. You might need to spend some dough to earn some respect, but in the long run it'll pay off I'm sure.

Pleased with my play towards end of month. 24 tabling is not for me, I thought I knew this before but I've kept on chasing because of the goal of SNE. Official verdict - forget SNE. I can have a much higher hourly rate playing 16 tables, table selecting ridic well.

I have plans on being the new studboy (except I hope to play better than him), mixing tables from 1/2 to 5/10 only playing in games where I know I am a favourite. I'm running like 8k below EV over the past 3 months which is unfortunate but even considering that my winrate is appalling because of bad table selction, playing too many tables and pushing myself to play when I am not in the right frame of mind....

Anyway, hopefully Feb will be better but:

jesus christ mixing 1/2-3/6 is hard work. I made 1.6k then lost it all back with a set<set followed by a maybe slightly tilt induced retarded bluff shove in a 3bet pot at 3/6. There were some pretty big fish at the 3/6 tables though, and all this mixing means that I'm really only on great tables but hey I'm still a spewy moron so meh.

If I've completely abandoned the idea of SNE (which I have basically) I might start thinking about mixing something like 8 tables each of FT and Stars when I'm fully comfortable at mid-stakes, maybe even add in some Party or whatever if they're running. Just random rambling for now :) After my exam tomorrow I am just gonna ignore college for a while and just drink/play poker but not in that order ldo.

What value do you get from SNE that is worth the effort of not being as good a poker player as you can vs being an SN and breaking into the bigger midstakes games?

Fwiw, i looked at the same situation just before the US was booted from party (albeit at smaller stakes)

If i were in your shoes id complete college/pwn poker on the side - use the income to bu ya house etc get a job for 6 montsh and then decide if its poker full time or a career with poker on the side.
You can easily make £50-75k year in a decent job and find 20hrs for poker a week taking earnings well over £100k. 2-3 years of that and you wont need to work as no mortgage etc

Moving down from 24 to 16 tables has been great so far, I'm table selecting obscenely well and the results good so far :) As for what I'm going to do after college, well I have no idea. I might take a gap year or two or more, or I might start teaching percussion. Not a particularly well paid job but it might be fun...

Soooooo... I got doomswitched for a while at 3/6, which was annoying. This but me on pretty bad tilt, so I just stayed at 1/2 for a little while. After a couple of days at home, I decided just to go straight back into the deep end and simply concentrate more. This has worked really well, tilt instantly banished, hopefully NEVER to return!

I did play my first ever hands of 5/10 when I spotted an extremely fishy looking table. However, it was pretty uneventful apart from getting AK<AA vs a 40BB stack. I felt pretty comfortable there though, I think I'm really progressing into the category of decent mid-stakes reg but I don't want to get ahead of myself :P
