if anybody wonders why im like a broken record on some things, it's partly because of this. people can influence opinions. obviously it's important to try to be tasteful about it.
on a similar note, i wonder if people ever truly change their minds. naturally, im not pro-feminism and am pro-firearm. i mean, when im in my most normal state of being, i tend to think the feminist narrative is bullshit and the anti-gun narrative is bullshit. but after i got into politics, i went dramatically towards the left and believed the pro-feminist narrative and most of the anti-gun narrative. still, i have a hard time thinking that wasn't an affectation borne out of some personal problems i was having, as well as perhaps being influenced by an amateur (yet growing) understanding of the topics.

I don't even know how my view on sexism can change. I'm not sexist. I'm not going to be. I recognise that both males and females experience different degrees of prejudism and discrimination. I understand that feminists are idiots. I also understand that men and women have different instinctive motives and different strengths and weaknesses. Men who hate women have a problem. It depends what you mean by "quality of argument". Is a quality argument one that is based on fact alone and not opinion, or one that is based on opinion that is expressed in a particularly compelling manner? Or one that is based entirely on fact, and expressed in a particularly compelling manner? It also depends on the subject matter. Noone can convince me god exists, for example, no matter how compelling their argument, because it can never be based on fact. I can be convinced I'm wrong about, say, 9/11 conspiracy, if someone could demonstrate clearly that the buildings could fall like that blah fucking blah. But not by someone of high intelligence that just used language better than the next person to get his opinion across.Quote:

If your opinion is in line with facts, then fair enough. But often in debate, the line between right and wrong is blurry. Such as gun control. Should the people have guns? There is no right and wrong, just polarity of opinion.
If your opinion is easily swayed by strong debate, then it leaves you open to manipulation by those smarter than you. I'm not saying changing your opinion is inherently a bad thing, but it should because you accept your position is wrong, not because someone else is right. Someone else being right doesn't always make you wrong.
there are tons of facts in the gun debate. they go mostly ignored. im not saying anybody here ignores them, but on a political level, one side has a shitload more facts and sound logic than the other. this doesn't seem the case on a superficial glance since the only narrative the media pushes is the one devoid of facts and sound logic.Quote:

I just want to say two things about this discussion regarding OngBonga's motivations, sex, etc:
1. Studying game would fit in perfectly with what he has going on right now and allow him to pull decent-looking women regularly without having to change anything significant about himself or spend any money.
2. Relationship game is all about preventing the type of scenario he described where he feels trapped with a woman he hates and the kids, etc.
It also helps tremendously in the career/work situation and not being miserable, etc., as well.
Basically, studying game and TRP principles would improve every aspect of his life without him having to change who he is as a person, which is the point.

They are universal unless you have localized results enabled, or vice versa. The general gist of the ratings stays about the same, especially at the upper end. A lot of this is to make it more difficult for marketers to accurately check rankings for specific keywords so it's harder to figure out how to game the system (SEO, etc.) Also, it's been proven that they randomize the results to a degree from time to time for the same reasons. It's actually an extremely interesting topic that would probably need its own thread because there's just such a ridiculously large amount of shit that goes into it.Quote:

EDIT: That monitor almost definitely never had any chance of acquiring burn-in.
Those early 4-color monitors were probably about the last ones that it mattered. I don't think it's been an issue for full color monitors. Maybe some really early ones, but the whole screen saver issue was largely solved by making better monitors before the software came along to help out.
TL;DR: If you replaced a monitor that had burn-in, you probably replaced it with a monitor that was basically immune to burn-in.
You probably have a 15,000+ Volt power source in that CRT. Also, a linear particle accelerator.
I recommend leaving them alone unless you're into having fun with high-voltage power sources

How interesting. At my old house, I used to have this monitor literally sat on top of a large speaker, so whenever I moved the monitor, I had to degauss to restore the colours. I was obviously aware that it was magnetism causing it, but never looked in depth. I never knew what degauss actually did, but it made a cool electric noise and made the screen wobble. Sadly I haven't actually had to do it for a long time because it's no longer sat on top of a magnet.

well my fat ass is down to 215. been lifting again consistently for maybe two months now. am really close to one-arm 90-degree isometric pull up, so by the time i get to goal weight of 185 at lowest, i should pretty easily have hit my goal of being able to do one-arm pull ups.
