i agree with bikes 100% on last two posts. not cool on both counts. actually the recasting might be unavoidable, idk the story - they can't help what the actor does. but you can't pressure the dude to finish his books. and from what i've heard grrm say in videos about that sort of pressure from fans, he doesn't seem the type to yield to it.
grrm signed on for the pressure when he signed on with hbo
character is a huge douche anyways. im sure the bookies love him tho
they had gregor clegane cast perfectly the first time they did it. he was exactly what i imagined from the books. SWORD!
the second fucker was too articulate and well spoken and not vicious enough.
this fucker i dont even know.

original mountain is amazebutts. the new one is, well, yeah, articulate and lacking in teh grumpy
Does the mountain ever say more than 3 words at a time? Where are these big dialogs where he showcases his articulateness or are you guys being anal as per usual
inretrospectthatmseems mean.
Nah, Penny totally deserves that.
The Mountain was a beast of a man, as he should have been. The recast seems far too dignified. The Cleganes seem like they should be dumb but viscous muscle-- but the recast doesn't really come across that way.
notsureifserious.jpg
yeah I probably deserve it though
I seem to miss obvious things even though I watch each ep at least twice
Trying to think of when we ever hear the mountain talk... There are some scenes at Harrenhall but nothing really extended right?
You're fixating on the word "articulate" and insisting it has a very narrow definition. Clearly bikes was saying that the actor is just too proper and calm. If he were in different garb, he could have been Tywin's inordinately tall butler. The original casting was a tightly wound ball of dumb rage. And the original actor fit very well as the brother of the actor playing The Hound-- this new one? Not so much.
Well, the word 'articulate' is pretty narrow in the sense that it is usually used to describe one's speech. ANYWAY nm about that.
The key scene I can think of where the original mountain got some screen time and displayed some depth of character was the joust vs Ser Loras where he loses his shit and hacks off his horse's head. I think he had a pretty pissed off, ragey look throughout that entire scene. Isn't it possible that he seemed ragey as fuck because that is what the scene called for?
Suppose for a moment that the old mountain played those harrenhall scenes. In what way could he have come across as being more angry and rage-filled and what have you?
Take one of the scenes where the Mountain picks a random prisoner to execute.
New Mountain: *points* "You." (scene plays out as per normal)
Old Mountain: *GROWL* "YOU!" *spits on random prisoner* *urinates on hotpie's face*
seriously how fucking different could it be. To me it comes down to direction, not acting. The new actor playing the mountain is getting kind of a shitty deal from not having these kickass scenes where he loses his shit and hacks off a horse's head, tries to kill a gay knight, and duels his brother.
this is the man who smashed baby aegon V targaryen head into a wall while his mother watched, then he proceeded to rape and murder her. this is also the man who shoved his little brothers head into a fire for playing with a toy. a feel like a lot more rage is required in every scene.
i wasnt a fan of tywins line about gregor being a mean drunk or whatever. i thought he was mean all the time
Yeah, I mean the second one sounds much better, maybe short of pissing on the chubby kid.
It makes a huge difference. It's called attention to detail, something this show is generally not short on. I mean, the less screen time/lines a character has, the more important every line is.Quote:

That being said, I do agree that the current actor got the shaft by not having had the tournament scene. I think a lot of our dislike for his portrayal would have never been voiced if he was the original mountain.
HBO STOP RECASTING PEOPLE. NOW DAARIO!??!?! NERD RAGE!!!
also hbo casted this band.
i havent hit the skip or x'ed the window so they must be solid.
this is unacceptable because this character, I know :x
pretty sure any new actor for daario would be an improvement. he looks like the toughest decision he has to make is which drum circle to join.
daario is supposed to be stupid as hell.
Shh. None wants your book-tainted interpretation of characters.
lol awesome. "bestest thing evar is to make love to womanz who want dat love making" was always facepalm
i hope jaqen kills him
Yeah, I mean, it's not big deal obv, but it certainly infringes on the line-- so I pointed it out.
I personally thought he was supposed to be suave and pretty smart, in that he orchestrated that whole shebang. *shrug*

Stupid funny.
i am glad you show watchers have finally started calling robert his true name of bobby b
here you go friends.

countdown to s4.
Bookmarked.
cant wait for season 4. I watched seasons 1-3 in October through HBO Go thinking that season 4 was already airing and i was going to catch up. soniwasdissapoint.jpg when i found out that season doesn't air until next year. It known how many seasons there will be total assuming ratings support it?
If you account for books that aren't written yet, and the current pace that they cover the books, 10 seasons minimum. However, supposedly HBO intends to do it in 8. This will be impossible without eviscerating the source material, not to mention the fact that GRRM is likely to fall behind the show in writing future books (assuming the breakneck 8 season pace).
is there anyway I can watch this free somewhere any streams? nvm i think project tv has got it
I guess each of us had a point where we didn't know how to find this stuff. Yet, still, I'm always baffled when someone pops up with a question like this...
Well fuck, I just learned that GRRM likes Shakespeare. Couple this with how often we hear Valar Morghulis (all men must die), and I'm pretty sure most of the characters will die by the end
more s4 set pictures trending to the front page of teh reddits. show watchers beware
stay the fuck off /r/gameofthrones if you dont want massive fucking spoilers
i already assumed that was the case. no way in hell i'd discuss GoT on reddit
Is this series good? (stupid question?).
I'm thinkin' about purchasing a late christmas present for someone & had considered this series. Worth it?
Just get him Season 1. It'll work.
What I wonder is why people even bother asking if GoT is any good. I mean, have you not seen the cover? It's fucking Sean Bean dressed as fucking Boromir sitting all deep like on a throne of swords. And he has his own sword
It that doesn't tickle your fancies, nothing tickles your fancies
If you measure the books in game of throneses, you've got GoT (1), CoK (1), SoS (1.5), FfC (1), DwD (1.5), WoW (1.5), DoS (1.5), for a total of 9 books. To be fair they'll probably cut tons out of the later books and be somewhat correct in doing so, so I guess 8 seasons is possible.

Who doesn't love pork sausage?
I feel like some serious shit's gonna go down. Not afraid of spoilers from trailers because obviously they're only going to put things in that aren't new developments. Like every part with El Khaleesio is just the same exact thing she was doing in the previous season. This suggests to me that maybe her story gets wacky and unforeseen stuff happens. So far, there have been virtually no surprises with her.
If Tywin ever dies I'm gonna be a sad sad panda
Looking forward to this season. Sundays are going to be awesome for awhile with both GOT and Cosmos!
[12:29am] [geoo] [22:50:10] <@bikes> RECAST DAARIO UPSETS ME
[12:29am] [geoo] I AGREE BIKES
[12:30am] [geoo] just watched the ep and was like wtf
[12:30am] [geoo] tho I wasn't in love with the old actor either
[12:30am] [geoo] BUT NEW ONE IS NO BETTER SO WTF
Arya's first kill. I think she's got the taste for it now.
Her second kill. Don't you remember this scene?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnsqCyyqvqE
Oh crap I forgot. It's been so long. Well that ruined the magic of that moment for me lol.
She also stabbed a stableboy in season one. Frankly, there are few characters that we've seen kill more people.
The fight in the inn was apparently necessary for her to have a revenge and to retrieve Needle, but it felt tired and repetitive. I'd have been happier if Hound had taken care of the situation purely with charisma this time.
Was surprised not to see Stannis in the first episode. I had a feeling he's going to be even more important this season but we'll see.
I kind of liked the original Daario because there was something unique about him. The new one is terribly generic.
Wtf is Oberyin revealing his intent to revenge the Lannisters to the smartest Lannister??? Is he just so arrogant or is it some kind of a diversion?
Sansa getting that necklace was very intriguing. We haven't seen that necklace before have we? The editing was really ominous. I had an idea that the necklace will turn out to be a magical/mechanical device that will kill her and the fool, forgot his name, will regain his knighthood as a reward. Just a tought;)
Daario recast was much needed. The actor is an HBO alum from Treme. I can see not being super impressed with him from the first episode, but he was quite good in Treme, so give him a chance.
God i love her blood lust.
