WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. $2k BR for the first time ever. SHIPIT!!!
Played 1k today for +$115 and finally got to the $2k milestone and it feels really good. Im now also 10k hands into 50NL and it has gone really really well considering that this is the first time that I have moved up from 25NL.
Posting this update now as I'm travellign back to Uni in an hour or so and expect to be absolutely shattered when I get back so I'm really not anticipating any more poker today. (I might play in a loldocument or something but no more 50NL for sure).
I have drawn Amifat in the Noob HU MTT and havnt managed to get in touch with him yet but hopefully we'll be able to arrange to get that out the way sometime soon.

Congrats on the milestone! That winrate is pretty sweet.
GG sir
n1 sil, seems you had an eventful st paddys day as well!
I also have that hat lol.
sil693 first time I've looked over your op, very nice. Sounds like your playing some good solid poker really. I'll be keeping an eye on you and cheering you on.
gratz on the milestone, dude! I know that must feel good. now don't get cocky and post more handzzzz
p.s. I'm gonna catch ya. for fact.
sweet progress man, seems like everyones taking a big leap lately with bankrolls, keep it up!
Thanks guys!! Really happy with how things have been going this month, lets hope it continues and gl to you all as well.
Played 1k more hands today for +$114. Played in a $5 2R1A MTT this evening but was knocked out before the first break with AK vs KJ on a K108 flop. He turned the J ldo. So that was -$15 but meh, not bothered by that.
It doesnt seem likely that I'm going to reach my 50k hand target for this month due to the amount of stuff I've had going on with Uni etc. and I was going to change the target but then I figured if I did that then it would only be to make it so I reach my "goal" which seems pretty pointless. I have already made GoldStar VIP, have already more $$$ this month than any month before and have moved up levels, so worrying about reaching a no. of hands target seems pointless at the minute.
By the end of this weekend I should have cleared my $250 bonus too - I have around 475 more vpps to clear, which should take around 2k - 3k hands. SHIPITSIRIMO!!!!!

I had a shitty session yesterday - I only played 200 hands (the shortest session I've had in a long long time) because I stacked off light early on and was on tilt. At least I found it in myself to leave the tables. 200 hands -$73.
Today went better, thankfully. Played 1k in total for +$70 so I made back what I lost yesterday. Today could have been a 3BI+ day if it weren't for my sets getting sucked out on left right and centre. Oh wells. Also played in the Sunday 250k GTD. Yet again it had just under 30k entrants and I finished around 1.4k for $30.
I'm currently battling through a piece of Uni work that I have to hand in in 10 hours (wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't 1:53am right now) and I have no idea what to do, which sucks. So to all you college / uni grinders out there - DO YOUR WORK BEFORE POKERS!! I wish I listened to my own advice.
Anyway, on a good note, I'm pretty sure I have like no lectures this last week of term, so I should have a decent amount of time to get some more 50NL in.
In other life news, I keep being flirted with by a 16yr old girl, (I'm 21 so its not like its THAT bad, fwiw). I have met her twice and she keeps telling me she really misses me and wants me to go visit her so she can cook me food. She constantly texts me the most pointless of things and is just generally always trying to talk to me and be generally suggestive. She is seeing/dating/with a guy who has been one of my closest friends for the past 10 years. WTF DO I DO IMO.

We changed the rules etc a little to take into account the fact we were doing straight shots and not drinking the beer. This is what we came up with:
If you commit a foul (offsides included) - 1 shot
If you get a yellow card - 2 shots
If you concede a goal - 2 shots
If you give away a penalty - 3 shots
If you get a red card - 3 shots
Obviously all these shots were washed down with beer immediately after, just to really spice things up a bit. I won the first game 1 - 0 but my housemate had to do 7 shots as he kept fouling, I only had to do 2. After this he decided he was going to be sick if he did more vodka straight away so for the next 2 games he switched to mouthfuls of beer and I powered on through the vodka like a real man. I won the second and third game as well but was getting fucked as I gave away an obscene amount of free kicks and had 2 red cards in one match. We started a fourth match but then realised we'd finished the vodka so we switched to beer. About half way through I had to go and be sick and when I came back to try and carry on I couldnt actually follow the ball anymore so I had to call it a night. Goot times, give it a go imo.
Got a rather nice email from Stars today:
Dear sil693,
Congratulations! You have fully earned your Deposit Bonus. Your
PokerStars account has been credited in the amount of $250.00.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!! Cannot be beating free monies imo. Especially after losing close to 2 BI yesterday (obviously chalked down to coolers though, ldo). I was left with only 26vpps to make today in order to reach the Bonus, and at first I sat at the tables with the intention of playing till I cleared it and then stopping. Once I was actually sat though the tables seemed pretty good and I had some good seats with position on massive fish so I stayed and put in a 1k hand session for +$111. This probably should have been more as I was in a hand with a boat vs a nut flush where effective stacks were 200bb+ but I played the hand pretty shitty (but WTF villain checks behind river with the nut flush YKNBITBDKFNYRBNTFGY).
I think at the end of this month I'm going to make a withdrawal to leave me with about 2k left in my roll so i can comfortably stay at 50NL. I'll have to see how it all goes. GL to you all.

I played 1k at 50NL yesterday for around -1.5 BI. Not too bothered by it as I ran pretty bad in All Ins, particularly versus short stacks (luagv;agubvh;iuzduvgbf\;jvg\l). I had AA < KK AIPF for a fullstack as well. I also spewed outrageously BvB vs an aggro reg - looking back at the hand its clear how flawed / non-existant my thoughts were re. this hand as it was being played.
My Uni term finished today after I got my presentation out of the way this morning. i think it went quite well to be honest - basically had to give an outline of my 3rd Year Dissertation to a few lecturers / professors / pHD students and then answer a few questions about my methodology and results etc. Only took about 25 minuts so nothing too hardcore.
Came back after that and felt in the mood for some poker but the 50NL tables were just crammed full of nits, so I decided I'd play some 25NL instead as the tables looked far far softer. Put in just under 1.2k hands for just over 2 BI, so that was a nice start. After that I decided I'd play some sngs just to pass the time really, bought into 9 $5 sngs and ended up taking a 1st, two 2nds and two thirds for a profit of like $18. This evening I played 2 MTTs, a $16.50 turbo and a regular $11. I didn't manage to cash in either but I buy into MTTs with no real expectations so I'm not really fussed. The plan was to grind some 50NL after the last MTT but my head wasn't up for it so I sat and watched Pretty Woman instead. Obscenely masculine and manly of me I know. Oh wells!!
I'm getting picked up at 9:30am tomorrow by my Dad as I'm going home for my Easter break which I'm really looking forward to. I could do with a break from my Uni house and it's mould / damp etcetcetc. I'm also looking forward to there being a constant supply of food and drink, something which depressingly, I am no longer used to.

I think I've played like 250 hands after my last post. I've spent my time home from Uni on the piss and havn't really done anything else - which is always fun. I am yet to play a hand in April due to being too tired / hungover but I might try and get some in today depending on how much work I can get done.

Previous best month was like $700 so shipitimo. I made GoldStar and have been so far successful at 50NL at the first time of moving up. So a really good month imo - its just a shame its fucking April now.
Basically, in April, I have to write my 10k - 15k word University Dissertation, a 2k word assignment and start revising for my final university exams. All of which are going to seriously eat into the amount of time I have in which to play / (study) poker. As a result, I'm only going to be looking to get 15k hands in - which will be the least I've played in a month for forever I think. But oh well, needs must imo.
I'm also going to withdraw like $450 - but that will still leave me with $40 BIs for 50NL so it's pretty much inconsequential.
sil,
Although your sample is small for March, you winrate is very good. Too bad you weren't playing more hands/month because if you were - you're be owning the next level quickly.
Hey Drew. Cheers - it seems pretty shitty that I've just managed to move up to 50NL at a time in which I'm going to have a lot less spare time for poker. TBH though my work ethic is pretty shitty and I should easily have played more hands in March as I 12 - 16 table. I'm incredibly guilty of reaching 1k hands in a day and thinking, "fuck it, that'll do".
it's going to be gross to not get in the hands this month after playing so well in March. School comes first, for sure. But sit down and try to plan your time out a bit. You might be surprised by how many hands you can get it in with good time management.
You are playing well and making moneys, 100NL is easily attainable IMO and getting there with a solid BR would be 2nd priority for me after school. ok and maybe after girls. It's close though, especially considering having benjamins is good to attract girls. (or quid, however u spell it)
goin good so far, keep it up!
Very nice month sir. I say screw school and GRINDAMENTS!!! Obv kidding. It would be pretty ballin if you could grind a butt ton and still do all that though lol. No sleeps in April FTW. Good luck man.
Ship it for first 1k month
So at the start of this month I withdrew $450 which left me on about $2k. Since then I've managed to play 2.9k at 50NL, and I'm down just less than 3 BI. No huge deal, but its pretty annoying that I'm not running too good and havn't got enough time to put loads of hands in to make up for the variance. Having said that, I havn't been doing nearly enough work, as I've just been partying with mates at night and then spending my days hungover. So in theory I could have played more. I played in the SCOOP event last night, the 2 day event, but busted earlyish with 88 < 77 AIPF. Standard.
I am going to Rome tomorrow morning (leaving the house at 6:45am) and I get back on the 11th. Only a short trip but I'm really looking forward to it. Once I'm back I'm really going to have to start getting down to some serious work, as I have far too much to simply leave it all until the last week. Which of course means I'll be cramming it in as late as possible.
Rome! sounds like fun.
And if you find yourself forcing in time to play, that's probably worse than just staying off the tables until you can play with a clear mind and no distractions.
It's not going anywhere, you can pick right up where you left off when the school madness is over. IMO oc
Been back from Rome now for a couple of days. Had a really awesome time and I'd definately suggest going if you've never been. Highlight of the trip was definately the young Italian women who clearly aren't used to seeing men with blonde hair and seemed to love me for it. wooooooot. Its a really expensive city, ldo, but luckily I was with the parents so they just paid for everything. Yes I am 21 and still spoilt.
I havn't played any poker or done any work since I've been back. I really need to get my arse into gear otherwise this month is just going to be an all round disaster.
You speak the truth, I'm very blond and when I visited madrid earlier this year the local women definitely loved it, I was honestly the only blond guy I saw the entire time I was there.
Methinks I'm gonna die my hair blonde if I ever go to southern Europe. :)
I DEMANDS UPDATES SIR!!!
WOOOOT, someone wants to read about me haha. There isnt much to say, but I'll ensure that after this post you're up to date.Quote:

The Omaha was just me messing around at 10NL - I'm an omaha donk, but its so incredibly soft. Its made me decide that when I'm a much better holdem player that learning omaha should be very profitable. Nothing drastic going on really as you can see, last 1k hands at 50NL for +$125 today so that was nice. Taking into account a few SNG cashes I'm actually slightly +$EV this month, but w/e really, I'm happy if I can just get back to winning at 50NL.
BR is just over $2k (not including HU payouts ldo).
I have a couple of hands to post but I'm going to do it tomorrow morning as I can't be bothered now as I need to get on with some work. Speaking of work, I've left it all to the last minute once again, but I'm pretty confident that with a few intense days here and there I'll get it all done on time.
Then all I have to do is worry about my final exams, woooooooot.

villain is 61/11 but thats only over 20 hands so its not too meaningful but obviously hes loose and no goot. i think my cbet could have been a little bigger looking back. on the river i have just over a psb left, as does villain. question here really is bet or check? every single draw on the flop has missed (unless he has JQhh) and i assume he'd raise AK, maybe A10 pre, so I can't see how I'm beat, unless he has A8 or a weird set, both of which likely raise due to the hearts - although again no reads to certify that.
i thought my options were either bet/call ~$20 or c/c any bet he throws out. the problem with c/c seems to be that I may miss out of he checks behind some gay A, or "value" bets something like $10 with a worse hand.
this may be the longest thought process for what is more than likely a standard hand.

villain is 34/11/1.4 over 130 hands. I dont normally set mine OOP vs 1 player but lolminraises. question here is how to get value from his worse hands on the river. he has ~2/3 psb on river, do you prefer shipping it in or c/c? i assume if we check and he shoves we call? although I guess its hard for him to have flopped 2 pair as 109 and 10J are unlikely holdings.

I head back to Uni tomorrow morning, I don't have any more lectures but I have a fuckton of work to get done. I also have exams coming up that start on the 14th May so need to put in a lot of hours revision for them. Hopefully all will go smoothly and then by the end of the month my escape from education will be complete (provided I pass. please God let me pass (yes I know this is my hands but I'll take any help I can get)).

From about 2 weeks into this month it has been my aim to get enough veeeps on stars to maintain GoldStar VIP status, which I reached today. Playing to reach this means I've quite often been playing for the sake of playing, when I dont feel like it, when I'm too distracted etc etc etc. As a result, its been a pretty shitty month:

I have had an awful lot going on for the most part of this month, I've been writing my university dissertation which is due in on Friday (it should all be sorted by then, fingers crossed) which has pretty much stressed the tits off me. Add to that the fact that in my time away form my work I was trying to see as much of my mates as possible whilst I was home on break and there isnt much time left for poker. This resulted in me 16 - 18 tabling to get the hands in, which is something I havn't done for ages and was obviously rusty as hell at.
I dont really know what to aim for next month. I have my final exams two weeks in, so I'm going to have a lot on my plate again, and have to do a whole heap of revision for them to make sure I pass and don't come out of uni ~£20k in debt with nothing to show for it.
I think shooting for goldstar again is reasonable provided I manage my time much better, and stick to 9 - 12 tabling where I'm more comfortable. Who knows, I guess I'll just have to see how it all pans out.

tl;dr
cliff notes-
1. mate back from afghan visits
2. we gamble a lot
3. we drink a lot
4. i floor a copper and get arrested
5. we have hangover
Well I have had an eventful few days.
One of my best mates recently got back from a 6 month tour with the Royal Marines out in Afghanistan, and he came to visit me on Monday. First night he's here we decide to get hammered at my house before we take a quick trip to the casino before hitting the bars / nightclubs etc. After ~7 hours playing blackjack we realise its now too late to get into the bars (as they have shut) so we stay in the casino until about 5am, still at the same blackjack table, before we head back to mine to sleep.
Tuesday afternoon we wake up and decide to go look around the Bull Ring (shopping centre in Birmingham) to see if theres anything we like the look of - mainly women ldo. Decide we cant be arsed once we get there so go for a pub lunch, sink a few pints and he thinks going to the casino is a great idea, I really dont think its a good plan at all. So we get to the casino at like 2:30pm and stay there until about 6pm, during which time I manage to lose all the money in my wallet, about £180, and he manages to make about £100. Then we head back to mine to watch the Man U - Arsenal match.
(WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE gg you farking gooners)
After that we get absolutely trashed at mine before we go out into town. We find a bar selling double vodka red bulls for £2 and stay there for 2 hours or so. I think I managed to get through about 10 in this time. Then we meet some girls and get a taxi with them to another bar. I soon get thrown out of the 2nd bar for being aggressive towards a bouncer who seemed to think I was too drunk to be in there anyway, and the police are called. I essentially call the cop a cunt and tell him to fuck off. Now im not normally aggressive, but the cop then tries to manhandle me onto the floor without giving me any warning or anything, or without asking me to leave, so I drunkenly decide Im having none of it and pwn his scrawny ass, leaving him on his back and me laughing, asking what he was trying to do.
He calls for back up. Which arrives in the form of a riot van.
So there were already 2 policemen, and now another 4 have arrived. Im a pretty big guy (6ft 5, ~210lbs), but this still seems so excessive. Im laughing so hard as they climb out the van and walk towards me, as if the 1st bloke had wanted to arrest me, all he'd have to do was say it and Id have been no bother at all, but Im not having him wrestle me onto the floor. So they come walking towards me and one has handcuffs ready, so its inevitable, and I turn my back to them and put my hands behind my back. I get handcuffed. Then, they cunt who tried to wrestle me realises I cant fight back and ruin him again, so with the help of some other office, literally lifts me off my feet by my handcuffed arms (which fwiw really fucking hurts) then throws me onto the floor of the van. I get taken to the station, go through all the bullshit and spend a night in the cells. I get woken up at like 8am and Im told that Im being given an £80 fixed penalty for being Drunk and Disorderly.
We spend all of Wednesday feeling incredibly hungover, sitting in front of the TV basically talking about how the 1st cop who came over to me was really being a prick - but how i also wasnt helping myself in any way at all.
Oh wow.
You're a brummy? I never knew...
I'm at University in Birmingham, so I wouldn't call myself a brummy. You nearby?Quote:

Just a quick update:
Ive been revising for my exams now that my mate who was visiting has left. I wasn't sure I'd have time at all for poker - but I've found that if I revise for a couple of hours and then play a small (~1k) poker session, my mind is in pretty decent shape as I start playing having been concentrating for a while already.
A couple of times this month I've sat at the 50NL HU tables on stars with players I judge to be fish (< 100bbs ldo) and I havn't played much at all but it's gone ok. I think for now though, I'm going to be doign less of this as it's just soemthing else I'd need to put effort into learning, which I havn't really got the time for (and I cant be arsed).
So far this month I've played 4.6k at 50NL and I'm +$244 which is nice. I also cashed in a $5 MTT last night but unfortunately that was only for $36 despite finishing 43/4.3k. I took the 10k fpp $160 bonus on stars, and am currently working towards a $120 deposit bonus too. I'm shooting for 3k vpps this month, so that I receive 70k bonus vpps next month (such a sick farking promo). With those its very likely I'll make Supernova this year, which is pretty much ridiculous.
All in all, things seem to be going gooot.
Hands - 4624
Winrate - 10.57bb/100
Bonus - 1553/2400
Vpp Target - 713/3000
Fucking UK... ;) Nice work sir! Pwn them feesh
ya damnit, sick sick bonus. I have to grind 5 more months to hit it and you gonna just have it handed to ya :D
ass
So today I hit 50k hands at 50NL so I figure now is a good time to post my stats so those of you out there who know what I should be doing differently can hopefully let me know. I'm also going to post this in the FR Forum as it'll get 1,2, maybe 150 times the views it'll get here.

I play 12 - 18 tables. Just so people dont have to ask. Thanks in advance guys!!
I'm not especially in the know in regards to fullring stats but nh on the graph.
Nice stats, I'd probably open a lil wider from the HJ tho. Other then that, I'm a lil sauced atm, so... yea lol. :) Nice garf
Impressive! Good grinding.
nice work
The one thing that jumps out to me is if you'd just auto-fold your big blind, you'd only lose about -11BB/100 @ full ring versus your -34BB/100. That would be an automatic 2/3rd improvement with your profit and win-rate.
Obviously, that's probably not the best strategy to just fold, but it looks like you're losing too much money there. It's hard to say what to do differently because your VPIP is pretty low @ 13% - maybe drop it down even lower and play it even more aggressively. Somehow your small blind, which should be harder to play, has a higher VPIP but you aren't losing as much. You seem a little more aggressive from small blind, though.
So my BR hit 3k yesterday after a string of fairly decent 50NL sessions this month. I took a day off from revision today, as my next (and final) exam isn't until Tuesday so I have all weekend to go over the stuff for it, and decided I'd try my hand at 100NL FR. I know the general consensus seems to be that 100NL = ~4k, but I figured I have 30BIs and I have no issue whatsoever with dropping back to 50NL if my BR drops to $2.5k.
So I upgraded HEM from Small Stakes to Professional Version and decided I'd 4 table 100NL FR for a while, for the first time ever. First ever hand I choose to play at 100NL:

MP2 was unknown but had min 3bet the previous hand and showed 55 after the PFRer folded. So I figured he was retarded. After this hand happened I'll admit I was pretty much convinced I was going to get pwned even though it was a flip for half a stack. Fortunately, I was only playing 4 tables and had the time to realise I was being a nob, so I put my game face back on and carried on.
I dont know if it was because of me only being at 4 tables, or if I was paying more attention because it was my first 100NL session, but the fish at the tables really really stuck out. Honestly, I ran really well - getting good hands preflop and making decent hands postflop. Once I noticed who the donks were I think I played a few alright hands vs them:
UTG had been limp/calling a lot so I was pretty sure he'd be coming along, and the SB was playing a lot of hands too. I figured my hand would be relatively easy to play in a multiway pot given that I have the BTN

This hand was vs. a different fish, who loved being aggro vs the PFRer on the flop, and had been donking / raising cbets a fair bit. Up until now, nobody had played back at him so I didn't want to 3bet the flop as I have no idea what he's continuing with. When he checks the turn it seems he either has a draw or some weak made hand that I have beat. Looking back I think I need to bet this turn harder

Overall, I played 515 hands for +$243. I was going to try 4 table another 500 hands or so this evening, but the beer in the corner of my room caught my eye so there goes that idea.
My BR is actually at $3,252 but $500 of it is here and there at the minute (although it will be back in at the end of this month). I also still have the $360 for the noob HU MTT, but don't worry, I havn't been including that in my BR. That said, it seems like now is the time to post this -

Epic work sir. That beer can definitely get in the way of grinding. :)
Can't wait to see you whooping ass when I get back from boot. Good luck while I'm gone dude.
nice rollll :D
So after my first session at 100NL going really well, the next day I played shitty during two session, and ended up down a BI. I was pretty annoyed with myself as I really didn't feel like playing but for some reason I did anyway. Made a load of shitty preflop and flop calls - was ultimately just a bit of a pay off wizard.
I 4 tabled today for ~2 hours, getting in 620 hands for a profit of $417. Best day ever, so shipitshipitshipit imo!!!!! Clearly I'm on a bit of a heater, but I also think that I was able to get so much value from my big hands because I'd recognised who the fish were, and more importantly, as I was only 4 tabled, actually picked up some reads. Seriously kids, try it.
After posting my 50k @ 50NL stats in the FR forum, Spenda pretty much told me to stop nobbing about nitting it up and to drop some tables. I was planning on doing this on moving up anyway to get settled, but now I think I'll keep it up for much longer. The main reason for this? Note taking. I honestly think that in my first 1.5k hands at 100NL I've taken more notes than I did in the previous 50K hands at 50NL.
So anyway, like I said, it's obvious I'm running into a load of good spots with big hands vs. the weaker players, but 4 tabling is helping me focus on exploiting them more + it also makes me feel more comfortable in spots with the regs (so far. I think I'm definately going to need to work on 3bet pots as there seems to be a lot more of them).
Here is the pretty:

I will get round to posting some hands later this evening hopefully. But right now I need fooooooood!!
woot sauce, sir. woot sauce.
So I guess this Op is complete as I had my last University exam today and that is my course done and dusted. Feels kinda weird - the 3 years have gone really fast and having been looking forward to finishing for so long, now I have no idea whats going to happen. Guess we will have to wait and see!!
I started this Op on January 8th, so I guess to round it all up I'll go ahead and post how I've done so far this year. Seems pretty sick that I was at 10NL back in January and have now just hit 2k hands at 100NL (FWIW the sick heater continues, +7BI as you will see). So here it is:

I'd like to say thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way (I can't really list names (besides Muzzard, tyvm sir) as I never actually talk to anyone, but I read all your posts. So thanks for making them so good). I will get round to starting a new OP before the end of this month, but for now, it is time to PARRRRRRRRTAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
Thanks guys.
Congrats on all the accomplishments
Congrats on the results , and its been an interesting read .As I've just started 10NL this month its inspiring to see that you have made it tp 100NL in a relatively short time frame.
vnh! enjoy the not-student life ;)Quote:
