f the donkaments dude.
Like $300, it was small, only 150 people or something. I needed 6th place just to break even with my rebuys! :lol:Quote:

Reidak, you can't tell someone how to think.
Only thing I would say leg is that cash gave me a much better understanding+realization of ranges. If you just want to play tourney's, gl. But, at least consider the rudimentary value you'd gain from playing some cash.
:-*
play all the tourneys you want dude
just remember to keep the bubble alive ad infinitum
play lotta sngs to keep ft skills sharp
play (some) cash on sundays
booooyaaah
oh, and good luck
I have played a lot of cash, it's not like I'm a noob. If you notice the first post of this blog I had a $300 bankroll last September and played mainly cash to get it up to around $5500 or so. I didn't really start playing a good volume until around Aprilish.
The point is, cash bores me. I am bored as all hell when I play cash games. There are times when I feel like the grind, but usually I don't. MTTs excite me, they give me a thrill that isn't there when I play cash. I always think there is a ton of money to be made by playing donkaments, the players are lolbad. It only takes more time and commitment to get that big score. I still play cash from time to time, but my goal that is consuming me right now is getting a large scale final table with a good score. It's what is keeping me focused.
The feeling of making it deep knowing a big score right around the corner is just awesome.
play some 45 mans
also lol at folding the trips bvb, go ahead and pay off A5. If you had limped and he was BB this fold would make a lot more sense, there are a lot more 5s you beat than 5s he'll often show up with. And if he's limping K5 he's plenty bad enough to stack off with PPs here. I mean at least call the 900 and see if you make a full or quads. Given your crazy plan to fold to a min raise your raise is also terrible.
If you haven't read HOH yet you should quit poker forever.
YEA WHO FOLDS THE TRIPS YOU FISH
hi doc, he timed out
haha A+ docQuote:

But at least I'm only down 10% of my bankroll now!
I plan on playing at least 20 MTTs, and might start dabbing into the 45 mans as suggested by doctor. Probably will play a session of sngs as well.
I randomly was disconnected from full tilt today while in 4 tournaments. Not sure what happened, as I didn't lose connection on Stars, nor did I have any problems with my Internet. Well, after about 2 mins it came back and this is what I saw:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rl/ftpdisc.jpg
Wtf am I suppose to do? I guess fold... On all my tables my hole cards were backwards so I had no idea what I had. I had to exit and restart the software to fix it. Then it took another 2 mins or so before I was able to log back on saying "waiting for permission to log in." Weeeeeird man.
Oh also had a bad day today. Played in the $3 rebuy, made 12 rebuys and ended with the starting stack. I didn't win one all-in the entire hour. And finished ootm in 8 other tournaments. Wheeeeeeeeee.
I wonder if that meant everyone could see your cards!!!
FTP had scheduled maintenance at like 6am, that's all I know
that lasted for like 8hrs lol
oopsQuote:

Yeah I got disconnected deep in the 65k on Tilt tonight as well and threw a little hissy fit.
I had same thing happen on FT, cards were face down, and then when it was my turn to act I min raised a raise. Then suddenly I could see the cards and I was pimping the Q6s.
Leg if it makes you feel better I had 8 RBs in the 20 last night, had starting stack, managed to miss my add on, then lost AA vs QQ.
haha so frustraaaaaatingggg..... just threw a little hissy fit myself. how do you guys do it, seriously? i'm either really bad or just really impatient, probably a mix of both.

Cracked 100 tournaments today, obviously without the results I had in mind. I ran so bad today it was disgusting, but I'm starting to become more indifferent... ah who am I kidding it pisses me off. The only good news that came from today was I realized I was calculating my bankroll incorrectly so it's actually $600 higher.
ONE TIMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I'm like the worst player on ftr.
That's all for this update.

Hahah same with me except I have almost 4 weeks to earn 3471 FPPs. I'm gonna clear it grinding turbos too! If I can find some time, I'll play the 45 and 18 man $60s. If the variance gets too annoying in those, I'll drop down to $38s and $27s too, but those earn way less FPPs!Quote:

{Warning tl;dr}
Well it's 1/1/2009, the start of a new year. As I look back throughout my silly little operation thread, nothing has really come out of it.
In mid-2007 I pretty much gave up on poker all together. I never really made much at it and was never really happy forcing myself to play it. Then for some reason in September I started a new small operation thread with the $300 I had left online. I was going to play small stake donkaments to hopefully build back up. I failed.
The thread died and I resurrected it in April 2008 because I randomly had a good week. I decided to play more poker, stay dedicated and win monies. I didn't.
In July 2008 after I went to Vegas for the first time (and made more that week than I ever have at poker) I started playing cash again, and for a while, I was doing pretty good. I was grinding at least 10k hands per week at 50nl-100nl, and even taking shots at 200nl which went pretty well. I built up the biggest bankroll I ever had at around 7k. I thought this was the time I was seriously going to start making some money from this game and start playing with dedication. It wasn't.
Thread dies again and is bumped in October 2008. I have about 4k left online after withdrawals and I get the urge to get a huge MTT score. I start playing more than I ever have before, 4-5 tabling MTTs. I played about 200 tournaments in September - November and lost nearly $1300. I guess the downswing blew out the flame of what little motivation was left. I quit again.
Now late December 2008 I check my bonus status and get upset that I have 12 days to make 2800 VPPs for my $240 bonus. I pretty much think this is impossible and decided to just give it up. Then I just started randomly grinding some donk n gos, did some math, and realized I could grind it out before it expires. I should make it in the next few days.
Now more importantly than this tldr history of my operation thread, is looking ahead to 2009. I have this drive inside of me right now to go for Supernova, which would be a huge turn around from previous years of poker. I ran some numbers, and it is easily a foreseeable goal. I could hit it without adding too much stress to my life. I would have to play poker every single day, but only for a couple of hours, and with the correct pace, would make it within 9-10 months.
I only started really getting this thought on 12/31, so it's still fresh in my mind which may be why I feel so strongly towards it. That's the thing with me, and some others it seems, I get a drive to do something, then it just starts to fade away. What happens to the feeling of completing my goals? I start to lose focus. I miss one day, then 2, then 3, then think "I can't make up for this" and quit. I fucking hate quitting, I quit every god damn thing I start.
So what should I do? Should I announce I'm going to run for it, then in March when someone bumps the thread asking for my progress, embarrassingly reply saying I quit? Should I just keep it to myself, see how it goes, and half ass to see if I can do it? Commit suicide?
Here is my call, does anyone else want to run with me? Keep each other in check? Maybe have a prop bet of some sort? Does anyone else lack dedication like me and could use some help?
Inquire within.
The problem is you can't just set supernova as a goal. Like you said it's too easy to get behind and jump off the wagon.
I could just say my goal next year is to make $10k and it would never happen. If I break it down in to hand volume and specific intermediate targets then it might actually work.
2 problems that jump out at me.
1) expecting to play everyday
2) something that you expect to take 9-10 months leaves very little margin for error
yea maybe you should try to make it through the first month and see
yeah i'm going to see how everything looks once february is over and see how i feel. i will have a better understanding of the volume, swongs, and shizzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
i'll also be gone from jan 10 - 20 in the bahamas so that is 1/3 of the month where i will be unable to play.
The reason you probably end up quitting everything is because you never break anything down to realize what it will actually take, then get discouraged after you start because you didn't realize what you were getting into.
/based off of past experience not related to leg
DON'T BE THAT PERSON!!!
This is up there in my pet peeves. There are only 3 options when you recognize something you consider a fault:
1) analyze the situation and figure out what has to change to make it better
2) accept the fault so it doesn't bother you anymore
3) talk about it a lot and but don't actually change anything
99% of the population pics #3 and never even questions it.
I had a long post based on what swiggidy said, but then I realized that in the midst of all that pessimism he was actually explaining GMML the work that has to be done.
Swiggidy, lighten up. Let the man do his thing.
And GMML if you fail, please do so spectacularly.
Not to steal your thunder, but I have had a secret plan for a long time now. I will reveal more as the time is right.
/mysteriousness
good luck mr carlson! think about it, decide if it's realistic for you. if it's not, think of an alternate realistic goal and then yes, tell us about it! no more letting this thread die.
congrats on doing well with clearing your bonus so far, btw.
I operate with tough loveQuote:

i know this sounds kind of deep for a poker operation, but it's so much more than that. poker is such a small part of my life, almost insignificant. it isn't about poker. it's about getting something done, completing a goal, being successful. replace poker with anything, it's the same thing. i need to stop being a whiny bitch and just get shit done.
 you all
38 tubros because apparently i hate my life and don't have enough stress as it isQuote:

So I completed my goal in 5 of the 12 days I had. Pretty crazy how crappy I felt about the whole thing on Dec 29 but now I am very glad I pursued this. I know it's just a small goal, but hitting any goal feels great right now. It took 195 tournaments over 5 days but finally cleared the damn thing. Anyway, he is my graph over the past 5 days:

So I guess I'm going to keep grinding and see how this goes. Supernova still in the back of my mind but for now, but it's only 2nd day into the new year. My current goal is just going to be to play. Here's a nifty little thing I made to keep track of my pace:

Going to try and play as much as I can from now until the 9th, then I'll be chillin' on the beach from 10th - 20th in the Bahamas! PEACE.
