playing ok, not quite a-game though. Working on that. 25nl shortly I guess.

haha nh that was quick. Ship da nickels!
ez game, as they say
Right, I knew you'd be whoopin' me, but holy hell! Beware though, I'm making improvements to my game so should be overtaking any day now...haha!
cheers guys.
Stars is different from FTP. There are a lot of nits out there. At one table in particular today I was sitting with three 13-10 types, one 15-12, and four 10-7 nits - those tables are like printing money!
Rolling slowly. I've earned some fpps thanks to stars having a cool promotion this month - i got platinum star playing 5nlol - plus i had a few left from whenever i last played stars. I've also accrued enough VPPs to get some stellar rewards ($20 so far!!). I know that buying the $50 bonus isn't the best use of FPPs, but I think that anything that accelerates my move up through the stakes is worth the lost future value in FPP conversion (plus i'll earn enough FPPs by moving up to compensate etc). I'll probably move up to 25nl at bankroll = $550 or $600, hopefully after one or two more sessions. Funny, my hourly in my time at 5nl and 10nl has been >>$10 excluding bonuses. Ridiculous.
Once I'm at 50nl I will start phase 2 of this re-grind. In parallel with grinding the Full Ring, this phase will involve starting at the lowest limits in some other games and learning some more. To start with it will be ante tables (I suck on ante tables), also 6-max, also omaha. I am also going to learn to 24-table - but not for a while yet. I'm probably getting way ahead of myself - first, and most important, step is to get this roll built. And that's a long way from complete...
lol remember when we were in a race for 100k.
So my roll is up to €170 naow. Wanna do a race for 1k?
One american dollar to the winner?
ahhh, 25nl. I played a few big sessions. I ran pretty bad, and didn't play all that well either. Bad on the AIEV front = -9bi or something, but also very bad on the AA<KK AND KK<AA fronts. Charging draws then having to fold rivers, calling with good pot odds but not hitting, etc... In fact, this is one of those poetic experiences that happen from time to time. I'm sure it will end. Next time i get it in on the flop with top two in a 3b pot vs 9Ts i'd like to win. For context - AA is up less than 1bi over 52 times dealt, AK is losing, KK is up 2bi over 50 times, QQ is losing, all other pairs are breakeven or losing, etc.
guess i'll play some more 10nl.
games are healthy. Bankroll isn't.
@ Oskar - race to $2.5k if you want - that's my first bankroll milestone/hurdle of this rebuild. I'm still hoping to get there from the $50 seed this month, but it's starting to look pretty tough.
DRink more imo... everythings gonna be alright.
it's good to exercise before boozing, right? I went out for an hour run until just before dark, then went bouldering at the local climbing wall. Now it's dark out, the first bottle of wine is running out, the first course of tasty food is et, maybe some more? some drop is playing in the background, and it's all about how to spend the rest of the evening...
1) I have some Dylan_Thomas kicking around that i am yet to read - and it suits the boozing I guess
2) i'm partway through Annapurna by Maurice_Herzog, which fits in with my plans for the coming summer
3) I have some more stats/maths to wrap my head around as I embark down some crazy avenue thanks to someone's PhD that isn't quite finished - if anyone wants to become entirely familiar with Stein's Paradox, Sequential_analysis (which somehow relates to gambling), and some annoying matrix algebra then maybe i can get some help ;) not really sure if that fits at all...
man, home alone with my girlfriend still in europe. Guess I could also call the local casino and see if there's any 2-4 nlo/nlhe mixed running..
i went out for a run today. Slow and sorta long. I started hurting around the 1hr35 mark. Three weeks until i run my first official half-marathon. Ran somewhere in the 18-20km range today, so the distance should be ok if i don't try to push for a time. But i'm running it with a climbing friend. So most likely we will both be collapsing at the 10km mark after about 40 minutes, and then crawling the last 11km.
A few days ago I played a fpp tourney for laughs and got a few T$. I used T$ to play a $4.40 1000-man 4-max tournament and got my chips in preflop AT<KJ to exit in 22nd. Close but no cigar.
I moved back up to 25nl after messing around too much. I'm going to 9-table for a while. There are heaps of 24-tabling 25nl supernovas who are up >$15k grinding the micros. They intrigue me.
I made a chin-up bar this afternoon. I'm going to be strong soon. I also bought some seeds so i can eat organic vegetables all summer.
Life is simple.
i moved back up to 25nl a few days ago. I've been auto-piloting and mashing buttons way too much in some of my sessions, but at least i'm not losing money. Still hoping to be rolled for 50nl by month-end, it's gonna be close. I wish I hadn't run and played bad the first move up, shoulda been more careful..

What was your thought process on river betsize on that first hand?
villain is very passive but may take a stab on that river if checked to and i can't really call a bet with 2nd pair on a 4-straight board, especially if he accidentally hits the pot button when he stabs. Thing is, i'm still way ahead of most of his holdings. He can easily get scared by the board on that river so i'm basically blocking for thin value - much bigger and i'm priced in, much bigger and he's folding 7x/AJ.
I just played about 6k hands for about +8bi. Long session.
closing in on 50nl, I just have to decide what the magic bankroll number is for moving up. I'm accumulating FPPs too. Think I'll hold off buying cash until the $300 or $650 bonus, not sure which
650 is clearly a better choice. You would get only 600 if you buy lower tier bonus twice, for same amount of FPPs. You could try some tourney tickets or FPP tourneys/sngs if u got skillz.
good point. The thing i'm considering though is the cost-benefit if buying the $300 bonus earlier means i move up faster and increase my hourly sooner + earn back the difference in FPPs by playing higher stakes. I'll see.
word. Except I only started on stars this month from a $50 roll. It's gonna be tight. I'll give it a go.
Sure thing. But its only 6BI for NL50. So why not keep it in FPPs and start NL50 6BI sooner? That way, if you run good you simply grind to 50k FPP Cash bonus and still earn extra 50$. :D
Another option is, if you wanna move up faster, to move your roll to another poker site to grind out a welcome bonus, and then run back to stars. :D
Though not sure would it be profitable overall since it might take some time to adjust to players there (for example, on Party Poker players really like to mash Pot Size bet button for some reason :drunk: )
two really good ideas, thanks. I'm pretty much rolled for 50nl now anyway, but i'm going to play 25nl out until the next stellar reward (this was my original plan cos i wasn't expecting to run 5+ptBB over my first 20k hands at 25nl...) The first idea is what i did for the move to 25nl, the second is something i hadn't thought of but really should. Especially now that i'm rolled to bonus whore. I can probably get a free i-pad out of it too!
played another big session for a few more buyins. Moving up soon i guess. Rolled for 50nl, but i guess i won't be rolled for 100nl by month-end.
I just got in from an hour long hill run. Feels good. On Saturday a friend and I went out for 2hr20 as a half marathon training run. It seems a little ridiculous to train over a longer distance than what we're training towards, but it was good for confidence - even with the level of tiredness we both hit at around the 2hr mark. I was hungry for a long time after that run and still a little tired on Sunday so the only run was half an hour of light jogging to stretch out my legs. The half is on September 11. I'm heading out with the same guy on Saturday to try and punch out 15km on the flat in ok (by non-runner standards) time. Less than two weeks to accumulate some fitness. Game on.
in associated news, i have been chasing a lot of runner runner draws of late but only seeing very limited success. This is a shame as it means that I'm getting stacked more often than I would like. I need to hand-read better if i'm going to shove that light...
Not a whole lot of fold equity in this game. I'm totally getting my ass kicked by my 100NL deep auto pilot. I cought myself in a three barrell bluff with bottom pair on a wet board which I used to do cos I could rep the obvious draw when it comes in or get paid when I hit my disguised draw. Ended up taking it down with the best hand when villain snapped with bottom pair and I had him outkicked.
I'm going to put huge focus on not bluffing unless I have a decent draw, and not calling unless I have a really good reason. Going to over-adjust way into the opposite direction for a while.
Huge problem with hand reading at lolNL is that almost nobody can actually read their own hand properly as it relates to your range. So it's prolly best to just stick to a super simple value betting strategy and not get cought up too much in the details.
i'm not convinced that going crazy with air is always gonna be profitable... Looks good so far though? or do i deserve to be losing a lot of chips?

A = good spot to bluff
B = I think villain has you beat
C = villain annoying you with light 3betting? I'd rather 4bet/fold. But as played I suppose you are representing a variety of a strong hands. Good turn to bluff.
D = Why jam? Wouldn't raise to 8$-12$ do the trick?
Overall, I think you might be a bit spewy if you don't got good reads on villains (specially on those particular boards).
1- c/f flop if u don't 4b pre
2-why fps? just c/shove turn
3-just make it a little bigger on flop to prevent him to float too much and make it more credible like 5.5$, also on turn you don't need to make it much more than half pot here
4-meh, this can't be -ev, but a more plus ev play imo would be just calling, and also either 4b pre or fold.
i followed a bum up to 100nl last session - he had stacked me once and i had stacked him 3 times, so i guess it was his money i was following with. Nothing happened, he busted, I left. Hopefully I will be regging up there soon.
month is underway
12k hands at 4.5ptBB/100.
Volume needs to increase, winrate needs to be maintained.
some days you run horribly in flips, 95-5s, etc.
So you keep on grinding it out cos really, the player pool is weak. And it gets no better. And you run about 7bi behind on flips over two sessions in a day. And you look at the graph, and you laugh. Cos you still broke even. Today was such a day. And there are a few sessions left to go ;)
http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/7762/moreplease.jpg
I'm playing so few tables now that a break even streak of a couple thou hands is like half the month. It's nice to see it put in the perspective of just another day.
another graph for lols
i'm getting in the volume i want
i'm playing ok
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5069/bettergraph.jpg
phase 2 underway, kinda. I'm reading and thinking a bunch about omaha, and also deep play. Not sure which i'll be hitting, or if indeed either.
It feels good to have ground up a roll from $50 in a reasonably short time. I'm not sure how much time I will be spending on other games vs playing my bread and butter.
it is a sunny winter day and time to go out for a run. Sunday morning I will be lining up at the start line of a half-marathon - my first ever. Excited about that.
if i were to pick, i'd diversify my holdem skills (ie learning to play deep, maybe CAP, perhaps work on my tournament game/ICM etc) before lunging into a somewhat new game. and that's what i plan to do once i feel i'm remotely competent at 100bb deep no limit hold them. but i'm not you. so good luck navigating whichever path you choose.
I ran my first half marathon yesterday. The start was a disaster, i didn't cross the start line until over a minute after the gun, then the course was too narrow to easily pass people for ages. 13minutes to get through the 2km mark. WTF?! I hit the 10km marker in 57minutes (basically walking pace) and decided to start passing people. The next 11.1km i went a little faster (53minutes) and passed a few slow people. So, a mediocre time but it felt great to get it done. And my legs had heaps left at the end. I'm going to do some training now and run another one in a few weeks. Cutting 7minutes off my time would be cool, so target is 1hr43'. That would set me up to run something a little faster early next year.
I played a simple nit session at 50nl this morning (below). Simple nit sessions are good for reminding me of ABC. I should start mixing in more 100nl before month-end.
http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/8...udisgustme.jpg
today was pretty gross. I flopped a few sets, that's usually nice. I got a couple of streets of nice value most times. That's usually nice. Villains rivered over-sets often. That's less nice. Mix of 50nl and 100nl today.
Hey man hope all is going well! It said I received a PM from you but my inbox was full. I cleared some space but still didn't receive it :(.
i decided to get a feel for what going for SNE would be like. I should have done it last year, or this year. 3k vpps/day isn't that tough, i've done it two days in a row now playing small stakes plo and nlhe. Doing it every day for a year would be crazy tough. But move up in stakes and it becomes easier. Maybe next year.
this year i'm wondering about targeting the 200 or 300k milestone. From $50 and less than 1k vpps in August. Maybe it's silly.
Some sick graphs above! Nicely done already dabbling with 100nl and running your half marathon.
another graph, i seem to only post graphs when i'm losing flips. I obviously win flips too sometimes. I'll post a graph next time it happens.
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/1...shortfiddy.jpg
i hit 50k fpps today too - i can't believe i wasted some on baby bonuses earlier. Looking forward to hitting nova and getting me some $4k action.
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/4563/fpppppp.jpg
are you shooting for supernova this year?
i just reread over this thing. i really admire your outlook on poker and your work ethic. not to mention consistently solid winrate and volume. really, really got me keen to get my ass on the study/grind. sick work man.
i figure 4 months from $50 and <1k vpps = i should be shooting for snee ;)
seriously though, i'd like to give 300k vpps a nudge.
cheers dude. My work-ethic has been a little stupid. I'm spending more of my poker-work-time not playing poker these days. And i'm getting better at poker as a result.
oh, and if you want inspiration then go re-read m2m's blogs!
how many tables are you playing and for how many hours for 3k vpps/day?
also, hu4playmoneyrollz?
i'm trying to open up the playing history audit file from stars cos that includes vpps/session and /hand etc. I'll report back.
the playing history audit file is useless for this sort of thing.
I'll simply record hours/stakes/avg tables/vpp received over the next few sessions i play. It's all in HEM except for accurate vpps.
So why don't i just combine the two sets of info....
ok - so it appears that i got the vpp count wrong at the start of the monster grind two days. This could be because of me working on NZ time and the reporting being EST. According to the stars data I made 2200vpps one day, and 2300 another. Both days were huge grinds cos i wanted to know = 12+hrs, and I was still not running at sne pace. Makes more sense now, i should have known it wasn't that easy.
I seem to be getting 0.2 vpps per hand at 50nl, and a few more at 100nl, and quite a few more at 50plo and 100plo. Seems that i get more vpps/hand than the standard fpp-pro calcs. I can think of quite a few explanations for this, any of which could be wrong. Interesting that you get 0.6 vpps/hand at 100plo.
5million hands at 50nl to get snee = even a chinese wow-gold farm would struggle.
I think i'm going to stop buying stellar rewards and get them all as a lump sum once i reach nova, that and the $4k fpp bonus = a $5k incentive to get there soon. And it's worth close to another $8k (milestone+accrued vpps) to get to 200k vpps. Interesting.
pot limit omaha-8 is my game of choice for this
Just in case my goals are sounding a bit clouded.
I am not aiming to be an FPP-pro = A PokerStars' Player who makes more than half their profits from the VIP Program (from fpppro.com).
However, I do like the sound of FPP-insurance = at least you'll still get some $$ even when variance is hitting you like a wrecking ball....
I was thinking about doing some reg-exploitation analysis, but for now i'm going to wait until I get to stakes where I am happy to be. Game on.
i played quite a few hands of b-c game the last week. I did a big analysis of my game again last night and found a whole bunch of leaks that i have let creep in. Now I just need to start running better. This month has been ridiculous on the winning flips and 90-10s front. Latest session at 50nl is starting to feel pretty standard. About 30bi behind on flips so far this month, and only 30bi in profit at the tables. WTF.
http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/7671/moan.jpg
last month was pretty gross. Not much more than $1k in table profits. I collected a few fpps, but whatever.
I started this month by not playing any poker. Instead i went rock climbing in wanaka. Now it's time to study and grind.
In interesting 'life-outside-poker' news, I went and spoke to my bank about house mortgage finance yesterday, they laughed about the poker playing thing but were quite happy when they saw the regular poker income i've had the last couple of years - and when they realised what my % deposit would be! I looked at the house that i am interested in today, it is under offer right now but it sounds like the vendor and prospective buyer have reached a stalemate. I talked to the bank again this afternoon, i'd like to be able to make an unconditional offer. We'll see. Updates on Monday i guess.
More news. Trout fishing season is underway. I'll post a pic of the first respectable fish i decide to kill and eat. Mmmm. Tasty trout.
and a link - cos this is more 2pt gold

:clap:i like. thx for the link.
pics of my first trout of the season are on my girlfriend's camera, not mine. I'll post soon. A nice rainbow, close to 4lb, fed four of us comfortably.
House is interesting. Bank has been struggling with recognising poker as a secure form of income. Hell, i struggle with that sometimes. Seems promising though, the mortgage manager i am dealing with suggested i put an offer in today conditional on finance etc. Pretty sure he wouldn't be suggesting this if he didn't think finance would come through.
oh, and poker. Life has been crazy. I've played less than 15hrs this month for a meh hourly. I need to get this house deal sewn up and then get some fucking grind on. Settlement date would be December 14th, the more cash i have to hand by then, the more relaxed summer will be.
buying houses is more complicated than i thought.
Getting closer though. There is a signed sale and purchase agreement conditional on a few things i want to get before committing = building inspection and electrical report, etc. Should be all good though, I walked through the place (and got under it to check piles, and climbed over it, etc) with a friend of mine who is a carpenter on Sunday - he couldn't see anything wrong but suggested i get a formal building inspection done anyway. Suits me, suits the bank, suits the insurance company.
So, what does this mean for poker? well, assuming all goes ahead, it means that i'll have to grind more than i have been... it means that i'll have a mortgage to pay. Actually, it doesn't really mean much for poker - i'll still keep a few months of living expenses in reserve. Now those living expenses will include mortgage payments, but it's not that much different really. It has more impact on life i guess, i won't be able to take three month trips overseas on a whim anymore. Or maybe i will, guess i'll find out! Exciting times. Pics of house once everything goes unconditional. I need to track down the 'cool things you've bought with poker $$' thread in the commune and get m2m to post car and house pics, dustin to post a pic of a big bag of weed, and then post some house pics myself.
first trout of the season, i felt obliged to eat it ;)
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/6770/img0777ux.jpg
looking goood!
An apple for desert and a penny for good luck?
wrong. Finance was all sorted, but i got into doing decent dilligence. Spent about $1k to save myself buying a nightmare - basically all alterations to the house had been done without appropriate consents and permits = a legal minefield. Walked away. Guess it's time to look for another place...
poker is blah right now. I need to get things sorted. I played (averaging) 21-tables across 3 stakes mixing in plo, plo-8, and nlhe for a four hour carnage session which was probably a good way to start getting my head straight again.
climbing is great right now. Getting out heaps. Getting stronger. I had a bouldering project for the summer. Dispatched. Heading north for some limestone crankage again tomorrow morning. Some psyche climbing vids that some friends made: Welcome to Rocklands on Vimeo, 2011 Flock Hill - The Season Begins on Vimeo
fishing is fun right now. A friend and I are trying to become competent fly-fishers. And we are somewhat competitive. And we both like eating fish.
bike-riding is deadly right now. Two truck vs cyclists in this small town during the last two weeks. I'm getting involved in some work with land transport and the council - it's pretty cool. I'm pretty anti-truck driver right now though. Mostly the ones who say things like 'well they (cyclists) shouldn't be on the road anyway' after running a stop sign and parking on top of a rider (dead now obv) who had right of way AND was in a bike lane. Careless driving causing death, bullshit. Manslaughter.
gardening is neat right now. Ya know, i always wanted to be a hipster. So I planted some vegetables. I had to do a lot of digging first though. Now that's where my salads come from.
politics is interesting right now. New Zealand's general election is tomorrow. Outcome is uncertain, we have a proportional representation system modeled on germany's. Ima gonna vote.

also, FTR seems pretty dead right now.
It kinda seemed to be heading that way when regs started posting then deleting honest comments on hand histories - seeming to think that providing legitimate advice was counter to the spirit of this community
e.g. bikes in this thread

wtf why do that?
sorry your house didn't work out! you'll find a better one soon though :)
...
time for another drink.
more trout
garden is growing crazy
xmas is looming
training is heating up on two fronts - 1 = to cut some solid time off the next half-marathon, first was fun and slow, second should be fun and faster, 2 = to haul my arse up some more difficult pieces of rock. Would be nice to climb 27 this summer (about 5.13a in us terms).
playing some poker sometimes. All over the place with regards to sites and stakes.
wasn't really how it may have sounded. People i know seem to have died this time of year a bunch of times in the past. It's summer. People i know do shit. Some of that shit isn't always 100% sanitised and safe, but that's at least some of the attraction.
It's also the time of year i once turned up when a relative unknown had just been shot = the police stuff. Obviously wasn't charged with anything, but they had to do their job.

my current fly selection to hunt fish, kinda like a 19% range from UTG...
edit: fuck, seems that another earthquake has mashed new zealand as i typed this. Fingers crossed all are fine. Don't need to break any records (182 people died in the biggish one earlier this year)
2011 was interesting
2012 is underway
no poker yet this year, maybe in a couple of weeks from now
sunshine is nice
Funny. You say no poker yet this year but here there's almost 6hrs until the year you're in.
daven is from the future
still on holiday
climbing is good
summer is warm
river swimming is crystal clear
haven't played cards yet in 2012
back home in a few days. Then it's time to buy a new computer and get on the grind. Life is cool.
I have played my first sessions of 2012. I played at 10nl. Rake is a killer. VPPs are few. Games are very good at this level, but the hourly isn't great (*nor sustainable?). $20/hr or something, hell, i could probably get that coaching ;)
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/4347/moarplease.jpg
maybe that winrate is sustainable.
10k hands at just over 10ptBB/100 and i think i'm back into remembering that a flush beats a straight. So it's probably safe to start moving back up.
I spent a few minutes talking poker maths in irc this morning, sometimes it's good to get back to basics. I'm looking at the role of fold equity again.
went climbing yesterday. Fell off some. Poker has been more or less like that the last couple of days. Tonight I party, tomorrow morning i get picked up early, sleep in the car, arrive at a climbing area, climb, eat, sleep, climb again on Sunday then back to work on monday. If I feel like playing poker that is.
climbing

then falling half a dozen moves later
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/7872/fallingr.jpg
Dude I am so afraid of heights that I can barely climb up and down a ladder. I don't know how you do that.
i had a great weekend of climbing. Fell off at the last hard move trying to onsight something at my absolute limit. Big air. Frustrating, but i was absolutely stoked at the same time.
poker. I didn't play the first couple of weeks of 2012. Then i decided to play either 10k hands or + 10buyins (whichever happened last) at 10nl then 25nl before getting back into things. I ran pretty good at 10nl, and ran pretty awful at 25nl. Time for a few hands at 50nl I guess.
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/7415/berley.jpg
the internet is pretty funny. This http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...ml#post2075723 = case in point, i asked a question, it was politely answered, i said thanks (well, 'cheers', but close enough), then everything turned to shit.
For better or worse, I'm going to play one of the $109 buyin TCOOP tournies.
Torn between the plo-8 hyper and the nlhe - both 100k guarantees. I mean, surely there aren't 1000 people who know the rules of plo-8?! but i'm better at holdem. hmmm. I think i'll decide based on weather - weather good tomorrow and i'll climb instead of plololol
the last two weeks i went cold turkey from things I had been consuming too much of:
alcohol
coffee
carbonated drinks
pies
chips (both fries and crisps)
confectionery
cheese.
Two weeks is over. I feel much the same as i did before = i still feel pretty damn good.
Anyone interested in talking poker hand lines etc:
http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...ml#post2076390
last night i ate freshly caught trout again, well complemented by stirfried vegetables from my garden and some roast veg. It would have gone great with beer. It was tasty regardless.
poker is. just fine.
it seems that i have been banned from ftr
and nobody has deemed it appropriate to tell me why
beautiful
respect
good luck to everyone here with whatever it is they plan to do
davenout
edit, i note that the thread i linked in my previous post has been deleted. I guess that discussing poker strategy is frowned upon by FTR if nobody is getting paid for it?
edit 2 - i was planning on posting in a few other op threads to say 'best of luck' and sometimes something a little more relevant. It seems that this account is limited to 10 posts only, someone obviously ain't happy with something.
So, @ all of you, best of luck with everything you pursue. Don't dare offend the wrong people. They may get upset.
someone smart said this once:
"No llores porque ya se terminó... sonríe, porque sucedió."
my time on FTR has been interesting, i've gained heaps. The last month or so, well, who knows what's happening here at FTR...
a pm i sent to bikes, maybe why i've been banned? who knows. Judge for yourself. And stay here and contribute here if you think this place is a good place to be.
----------
I get it that you dislike me for whatever reason - fwiw I'm pretty much neutral about you right now. d0zer pointed out some reasons for the strat deletion in a way back when full ring thread and they make sense. You're good at thinking/understanding poker, and other than that you're pretty much just another internet identity that I haven't met. Well, slightly more than that. You're someone who has poker insight that I respect, and someone I have played against for $$ on two poker sites.
It's pretty toxic for ftr that any historic dislike spreads into threads/posts in the forum = I have been guilty of this and am going to think twice before posting anything that could be construed as a personal attack on you. As d0zer suggested, I'll raise any perceived issues via pm rather than via threads (e.g. that whole questionnaire blowup. It's a shame that the feedback thread didn't just end at the 4th or 5th post).
re kicking me from redshouse and now banning me - well, I guess you can do what you can do. I'm not sure exactly why you choose to do this, obviously red invited me in there ages back. I'm curious as to your reasons, and would appreciate hearing them.
fwiw stars does appear to be down straight after my question in there - Two Plus Two Poker Forums - View Single Post - Is PokerStars down / lagging?
this also seems to be affecting why ftr loading is slow at the moment (cos linked stars advertising etc).
cheers
davenout.

harsh....guess thats what you get for being a solid contributer round here. later homie.
i'm pretty confident a poll would show that the majority of regular posters on this site (well, those who actually have an opinion on the issue at all) would veto daven's ban if given the chance. i could be wrong though.
edit: myself included
Well that's a shame. Good luck and hope to see you on the tables again sometime.
It doesn't say "BANNED" next to Davens name like usual in these cases. Hope it's a level. Daven was/is an excellent poster and contributor.
Thanks to all those who wondered about why i would be banned from FTR. I'm still wondering, not holding my breath too much for answers in the short-term, but definitely hoping for information at some stage. I think I'm formally unbanned now, after being informally unbanned apparently...
I thought about taking a break from FTR for a while = I mean, that's what some people are after. Or not.
I went away for three days in wanaka - it was stunning sunning climbing. Good places, good people. Last week there was some madness on poker stars - games were good, I think server restarts meant that there were no MTTs or SNGs running so fish migrated to cash games. Wouldn't mind that happening a couple of times a week.
so far this month i suck at volume
I've been out of town climbing 3 days so far, and probably another 3 from tomorrow => I need to commit to more hours playing when i'm around internet.
In other news, i bought a house today. Well, the offer went unconditional, the deposit is paid, and there is a 'SOLD' sign on the house. Settlement is 8 days from now = the date when I get the keys and start moving in (plus start making regular mortgage payments).
Absolutely stoked. Things are good.
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/3...butnovolum.jpg
sick giraph
Congrats on the house, daven!
I'm not in banned-land anymore toto
kudos to all those behind-the-scenes-in-mod-land at FTR for addressing my questions re the ban. The reasoning for my original ban, and the reasons for its reversal (plus answers to some other questions) have been posted in the commune thread here: http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...ml#post2078047
thanks to everyone who wtf-ed at my ban. To those who feel i should remain banned, well, everyone is entitled to their opinion so fair enough.
change of subject.
I got back Sunday evening from another great weekend of climbing and camping. My fingertips are raw after completing over 50 climbs during a boulder comp on saturday, and then backing it up by climbing a few routes on sunday. My body is tired. On Friday I will get the keys to my new house and start moving in. I'll post some house pics in this thread once I've taken some photos. Poker is going well. Still mixing up stakes. Up about 30bi for the month so far over 20k hands. Things still good.
still a long way from a 100bi month
all this house excitement and climbing => not playing that much poker
http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/3...llnot10kbb.jpg
decent volume for someone so busy. What's your setup?
swiss ball, laptop plugged into 2nd monitor on a spacious desk, pen and paper to hand, cheap logitech mouse, 8-15 tables tiled, hem, stars hyper-simple, 4-colour deck, no mods, no TN, no AHKs, pretty basic.
similar to my setup in bonn i guess
http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...ml#post1880953
I'm finally studying 1-2hrs per day again. I was planning to do this with anyone who wanted to join in, but the BC thread (linked a few posts up) where i suggested this was deleted and still hasn't reappeared. Guess that's probably in my best interest, but that's hard to say for sure. If the thread re-appears I'll probably still be up for the study sessions as originally planned.
edit: the vast majority of hands in the last two graphs were logged at 25nl, a few at 16nl and 50nl.
poker: up 43bi so far this month. After playing about 30k hands of almost entirely 25nl. I was aiming for 100bi at that stake for the month (I have a bunch of reasons for this) but it's going to be really tough to get in the volume, plus staying at 25nl probably isn't max EV.
house: I did the pre-settlement house inspection this afternoon, settlement is tomorrow and I'll start moving in on Monday. I'm absolutely stoked about it, hell, i can check the surf from bed!!!
poker world: Daniel Negreanu has been slamming Full Tilt owners lately (see bikes' article here for a great summary), and it's hard to feel any sympathy for them.
taken from his blog at fullcontactpoker:
Negreanu writes great blog posts imo

february in a nutshell:
1 - withdrew a couple of thousand $US = about my month's profits?
2 - got unbanned from FTR
3 - went climbing heaps
4 - didn't run much
5 - bought a house
6 - moved into my new house, made first mortgage payments
7 - played some poker, not as much volume as hoped
march plans
1 - grind hard for two weeks
2 - take ten days off, fly north, go to a nice festival (WOMAD New Zealand 2012 » Festivals » WOMAD), chill with nice people
3 - grind some more
4 - get some climbing done
5 - ramp up the running training, ride my bike some, get in the water more - just in case i have to do a half ironman soon (fucking irl prop bets make the world go around)
6 - get a garden going at my new place, grow the community garden project that i've set up this summer so that it's producing enough for 20+ people next spring/summer
that list is quite long enough for now
sweet man, sounds like you're keepin' busy and productive. i'm interested in the community garden project. care to elaborate on what this means?
sure. The building containing the loft i've lived in since July 2010 (see photos here http://www.flopturnriver.com/pokerfo...ml#post1971978) has a whole bunch of stuff going on. There is only one residential tenancy (mine, to be taken over by a friend of mine from next week), but also a plethora of community oriented things. Music teachers, band rehearsal rooms (e.g. these guys Knives At Noon // ThunderVeins (2011) - YouTube, Knives At Noon - Violins and Violence - YouTube, and these guys sometimes The Chills - Pink Frost - YouTube), two dance studios, a wind energy design company, other small businesses, artist studios, etc, plus a community learning centre. I wanted a vegetable garden, so converted a small patch of lawn when i got back from europe september last year. It's been producing heaps, a few zucchini every day, as much lettuce as i want, spinach to spare, tomatoes starting to fruit properly, radishes, etc. Simple stuff. Anyway, there had been talk about building a garden for the community learning centre to eventually maintain/take over for a while. Utilising some terraced asphalt area and a small patch of weed filled land. I volunteered to get it up and running, cos it's the sort of thing that i think is really cool. Someone else built a few planter boxes, i did some landscaping (getting on the sweaty end of a shovel is a good tilt release) and some planting. It's about 70% finished, the boxes are cropping well and I'm about to plant green compost crops (peas and oats) on the not quite finished area so that it will be ready to fire come spring.
Long story. Anyway, my vegetable garden takes up a small corner of a big section of what is currently lawn. I've been talking to the local organic shop people (shout out to Taste Nature if you're ever in dunedin!), some wannabe hipsters, and some gardening types + the manager of the building and we're (hopefully, fingers crossed, etc) looking at getting about 45 square metres of lawn turned into productive vegetable garden to start cropping next spring/summer. Not sure what we'll do with the food, probably donate to a couple of local organisations that do really nice work with poverty, or to women's refuge, or similar. I like that poker leaves me time to get this sort of thing underway, that i can afford to pour a few of my $$ into this sort of project, and that i don't mind volunteering in things that i believe in cos i have enough spare hours to not have to ration my time too much. I used to talk a lot and do less, now I'm trying to do the 'actions speak louder' thing, and i find it really satisfying.
plus i like to write about things i'm excited about. Long read/rant. Oh well, it's my op...
sounds awesome. good luck getting it up and running.
