somehow i m still playing, getting deep in another 33$ 360 cap, maybe 20 left... made about 150 playing cash now just grinding this last donkament. i m def not cut out for 9 hours of poker every day but i think i ll make it there tonight.
just busted 22nd, definitely gonna take a break tomorrow.
week 2 of this operation has come to an end with little movement. BR is still moving upwards, now hovering around 11.2k with a couple nice bonuses on the way soon.
i also feel like there s a big donkament score looming. can t complain; just wanna keep grinding and playing well.
grinding a few donkaments today - nothing like last week - and struggling with some irrational (although understandable) fear regarding cash play.
the past 12 months were just sooo horrendous for me that no matter how big my edge is, or how big i feel it is, i deal with some serious apprehension, some serious fear every time i sit down for a session. this is magnified when i sit at nl200, even though i m working with a 60 BI roll right now.
if i want to take the most +ev approach, i should be playing tons and tons of nl200 cash but i m just not sure i m mentally ready for a few 5 bi losing sessions. this is clearly weak and paranoid thinking, but it has just happened so often that the animal irrational me still fears it.
i could force myself to play exclusively at nl200 starting RIGHT NOW but i think the approach i ll take is a slow build. i ve been mixing in nl200 sparingly since starting this operation and i would like to be back to playing exclusively at nl200 and plo100 really soon.
this week i ll gun for 2k hands of nl200 by friday and hopefully i can play well, run better and my cherry will be repopped and i ll be back in a fearless mindset where i can play my best, regardless of the variance.
i m also gonna put a lot more effort into a really healthy lifestyle this week in order to be at my 100% at the tables. crossfit tuesday and thursday, light workouts on off days, and eating healthy throughout. gogogo.
"Do what you fear most and you will overcome fear." Don't recall where I heard this but it does play out that way.
Good luck sir
thx harley, hopefully by this time next week i ll be settled back in and comfortable at nl200
played a short cash session and a few donkaments today, lost my only big flip in NL cash and got coolered pretty badly in omaha for a couple buyins but played well and broke even, also broke even in the donkaments.
just sat at 4 tables of NL200, made 350 in about 15 hands, lost some of it and decided to leave and book a 180$ win in 100 hands.
this is irrational but it s a baby step. now i ll go back to nl100 and a bunch of donkaments for the rest of the day and nurture some childish good feelings about nl200 until tomorrow session.

whiffed all of the donkaments, flopping sets and losing 3 times deep, twice vs gutters that spazzed the flop.
pretty fucking tilted after going deep in a 55$ donkament on PKR, got it in with a decent stack with J9hh on 7h8hJx board vs 99 and chopped, then lost with JJ on KJx to bare AQ, making it 4 gutters that mashed my sets to pieces today.
after being up about 350 initially in the nl200 session the tally for the day is something like -100 on stars and +80 on PKR so pretty much breakeven.
more nl200 tomorrow, maybe i ll play a real, full session there.
1.2k hands of nl200 tomorrow, stop loss at 3 bi if i run badly.
about to fire it up. i m so scared, just like a little kid before a competition or a public speaking ordeal
gahhh
fak just tilt-shut down the session. didn t play a single hand angry because it all happened suddenly and i just stopped :

was on 3 nl200 tables and 3 plo 100 tables. just so annoying because for some reason this loss really gives me a sour taste. totally irrational since i was up a decent a mount before the doomswitch but i worry so much about dropping 6 bi or so really quick at 200.
back grinding later.
glad i played some omaha today!
http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/1095/omahamerci.jpg
surprisingly gunned and fired up after my 2nd session, overall - despite running about 850 under ev - i m down a little on the day. think i ll fire up some donkaments in a couple hours and play some of the late night games.
i am strange.
hah you are right harley. i also laughed a bit when a friend pointed out the irony of me being such a pussy about playing 1-2 and my sig (that is a quote about my play)
played a small session tonight, few donkaments and 4 tables mixed NL and PLO, made about 400 and played great, had a very tough spot that I posted in SHNL, interested in replies.
sick with a cold/flu, just put in a miniscule session, made about 250 in 45 mins, gonna rest.
slept like a log last night, feel much better. was just looking at the lineup of things to play on stars and it looks like the best things going are all satellites to the Canadian COOP that are happening tonight. i think i ll indulge in some non poker-related stuff this afternoon and then get my grind on like crazy tonight, play all the satellites while 6-tabling cash.
gogo gadget haveagoodtimethisafternoonament
reminds me of this song "what a difference a day makes... 24 little hours" -
gentruc pleased you're feeling better :)
thx slevin
had a good session despite losing 2 90/10s at the end and running QQ into KK 3 handed at NL. made about 500 and also won a seat to the PLO 320$ buyin event for canadian COOP on stars. i m deep in another qualifyer and i m chip leader in the 22$ deepstack tourney on stars.
good times.
boom just shipped another 215$ qualifier and still chip leader w 54 left in the 22$ deepstack, small player pool so only 1.5k for first but any decent payout would be nice
gl man!
215k, 2nd has 155k 20 left
god this is like watching paint dry in slow motion
shipped, 1st was only 1.2k but wtv, 9.5 hrs well spent lol
1st +2k day in a long time (since june i think)
awesome dude, good job, keep it up over the weekend!
just put in a late-night session, games were amazing but i didn t run well at all, made bout 150, playing 3 tourneys plus some cash tomorrow.
pretty shitty poker day, whiffed the donkaments getting it in good every time, highlight was TT vs 88 deep in one of those fishy cap tourneys
cash was going ok until i misread my hand for the first time in forever at plo, thought i had 2nd set and a gutter but i only had 2nd pair and a gutter. either way, i was getting it in vs top set so it didn t really change anything (except that i would have save 115bb s lol). at that point figured i was pretty tired so just shut things down and gonna take it easy tonight. down something like 350 overall with cash and donkaments together.
still can t complain about this operation overall : started on nov 1st with an 8.7k br and am now working with about 13.2k. i ve done fine without moving up to 1-2 yet. it wouldn t be a terrible time to move up but i think i ll have to cash some of my roll out at the end of the month so I'll wait to see where I'm at on december 1st and just play sparingly when a great seat is open from now until then.
goals for this week :
-play a lot of plo100 (games have been incredible lately) and clear this bonus i have lingering (3k hands of plo 100 should do the trick)
-crossfit on tues and thursday (being sick this week didn t help things)
-put in some longer sessions at night when the games are great
Good month! How many hands you gotten in so far?
Keep on rollin'!
I keep pondering a site switching and never do it... I need to get on that and stop being addicted to reg-fest stars, just cause if their awesome software.
hmmm maybe 11k hands + a bunch of donkaments
11k hands at like 1/3 the speed of play you d get on stars, so with the boosted winrate and lower variance i can t complain
also, running at 65bbs/100 at plo doesn t hurt lol
this is one of those "what-to-do?" days. haven t taken a full day off in a while now (maybe 10 or 12 days which is a long run for me) and, after a good night in my "private life", i m exhausted.
i m 100% sure i m +ev in the games i d be playing but just not sure about my focus. i lost some yesterday and don t feel like starting a losing streak after the relatively successful first 3 weeks of this operation.
lots of irrational thinking itt... still on the fence.
ended up playing a short session, made 500$ in 500 hands, mainly plo 100. looks like i may be making a full transition to plo if these sick results keep up. so far this month i haven t played much (maybe 4k hands) and i m running at 50bbs/100 lol.
now off to see the new harry potter after a friend twisted my arm (well not really, i would just never go see it if there werent some camaraderie involved).
donked some nl50 to experiment with the games a friend has been paying, dropped 2 buyins, lost cpl flips and value-towned myself hard 1 hand.
tomorrow will be a big fun long grind with about 5 tourneys and hopefully a ton of cash.
awesome to see you're not getting run over by variance this month!
couldn t resist a few hands in the late-night games before dozing off. 250 hands, 250 smackers.
just played a late-night session and i made about 260 in 500 hands or so. i m as proud of this session as any i ve played recently since i was down 400 within the 1st 150 hands playing a terrible spazztard at plo (0/5 in 60/40s and 70/30s) but just kept playing my A game, being patient and letting things unfold.
at one point i was 700$ under EV but a couple full buy-in gifts from late-night fish at NL coupled with the variance coming a little closer to something reasonable and BANG the welcome-to-unstuckoville sign was right in front of me.
so far i m doing well with my 3 goals for the week (crossfit, late night grinding, more plo) and today's another one of those days spent on the fence. i ve had a pretty bad headache (actually more of an everywhere ache) since the workout last night and i m tempted to make this the first rest day in some time.
maybe some donkaments? hmmm. i m so entirely on the fence that i think my nutsack will be split if half if i don t get off it soon.
opted for the slightly low-variance approach to the night: playing a bunch of qualifiers on stars while i watch the Heat come back and ship my bet vs the Magic
heat made it close for a while. meh; they have been such a letdown to watch so far.
just shipppped a 320$ seat to an NL tourney so going well so far tonight.
gahhhhh just made a thin/bad call at the FT of a 5$ hyper turbo with 33, lost as chip leader with 9 left and ended up finishing fking 7th for 215$ or so. still made about 450 on the session so wtv.
getting close to the end of month 1 of this operation. the plan for this weekend is to go play a live tourney with a couple friends and then do nothing sunday at a buddy's cottage. hopefully tonight and friday i can put in decent sessions before the weekend break.
so far results have exceeded expectations; if i can do ok over the last few sessions of the month i have a shot at ecplipsing the 15k mark (I'm at 14.4k right now) for my online roll after starting at 8.7k on nov 1st. this would be awesome and allow me to take a few K offline to start paying down some debts (objective #1 of the operation) without jeoporadizing my ability to grind nl200 if i feel like it.
tonight's plan is to fire up some more qualifiers for CCOOP around 8 and mix in about 4 tables of cash for a few hours. tomorrow will likely be a pure cash grind where i ll be looking to put in maybe 1k-1.5k hands (which is a ton on PKR's software).
holy fuck what a session. i almost tilt-stopped from running so goddamed badly but was skyping with a buddy who asked "are you playing ok?". i thought i was so i stuck with it :
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/2...ofnovswong.jpg
boom it turns out that HEM didn t import hands from a table where i was up about 220 so up almost 400 on the session, such a sick comeback, flirting with 15K now for real.
a non grinder probably would've quit when he was down 7BI
...unless he was a hopeless degen :)
pot-eh-toe/pot-ah-to?
EV catching up is so sweet haha
glad to hear thigns are going well for you. are you going to be in mtl the weekend of dec 17th? thats the end of my last week of college and was thinking about arranging a trip up there and would love to catch up
shit andy that would be a shitload of fun but i m back in windsor for the holidays at that point.
saw the sick 25k overlay in the CCOOP 320$ event so decided to pay for some of my action and got a big stack early but haven t won a pot since, now nursing my little stack carefully. tried playing some cash but i m physically destroyed after crossfit, played for maybe a half hour and made bout 160.
aaaand as i typed this just busted out of the tourney. fak. AJs into QQ on J67s board after flatting a minraise from BB. meh.
sry that was me who busted u lol, gg and gl.
so despite the disappointing flame out in the 320 event, tonight brings another relatively successful week of non-grinding to a close. a few minor scores in qualifiers coupled with a few more winning sessions at cash has brought the operation BR to 14.6k after almost 4 weeks of this op.
2 days away from the online games, out to a friend's cottage with a live game and the grey cup sunday.
just got back from an awesome weekend outside the city. decided to jumpstart the week with a little late-night grind and made 500 in 350 hands, mainly from some pretty bad reg at PLO hu.
bang. i love november so far.
withdrew 2.2k, online roll is still 13.1k with a bonus and some rakeback on the way gogogo gadget grinder this week.
Hah I could tell you were pretty wide awake/motivated when we dropped you off - but i thought you would be grinding some Tiger Woods, not PLO. Nice.
haha ya i was pretty intense and lucid, actually. still felt like i had energy when i shut things down around 4 30 am.
looks like i may take it easy today and tomorrow and then blast back into the non-grind on wednesday. i expect my play to take place at all sorts of different times through december and i also expect the games to be amazing around the holidays.
this is a little ambitious but i m gonna gun for 10k hands of PLO. doesn t sound too tough except for the fact that there are rarely more than 3 tables of PLO running on PKR. if i m able to hit 10k hands the RB will be much much better than at NL (although the swings will be bigger) and right now my PLO game has really clicked more than ever before. it helps to be playing terrible regs and fish, but man do i ever feel confident.
time to grind Genitruc on Tiger Woods '08. back at it on wednesday. month 1 comes to a close with smiles all around for me.
november's results exceeded my expectations. not counting a bonus that's on the way, the final tally was +6.6k playing 14k hands of cash (almost all at PLO and NL 100) and a bunch of low-limit donkaments.
it s the 1st month in forever that I've been able to track my all-in EV (nice to run right around EV) and also the 1st time in forever that I deposited an amount on stars that I used as if it were a legitimate roll (as opposed to a random amount to be gambled away on a few donkaments).
a few things jump out at me as i look back on the month.
the bad:
-i didn't play very well when it came to final tables in donkaments at the end of long sessions. i was often just "happy to be there" and felt relieved rather than hungry for the biggest score possible
-i didn t play very many sessions of epic multi-tabling grinding, so low volume overall
the good:
-i brought my A game just about each and every session. when i didn't feel i had it, i played in cash games or tourneys where i felt that even my C- game was turning a profit
-i table selected extremely well. played lots of weak players HU, lots of satellites and tourneys with overlays and played a decent % of my hands late at night vs presumably drunk, bad players.
-on days when i didn t feel like playing, i let the game either come to me, or scare me away; i took a shot at playing, allowing myself the opportunity to stop if at any point i felt that i wasn t going to be playing well or the tables didn t feel great. this was probably the most positive thing that took place - maybe half my profits on the month were earned during these "in-between" sessions.
-i didn t worry for a second about rakeback, bonuses or anything besides profitable play at the tables. when i m playing well, the money i m capable of making dwarfs anything the rakeback or bonuses bring, so it s infinitely better for me to just concentrate on bringing my A game than to worry too much about mindless volume
the "i m not sure" :
-rather than take full days off in between days of hard grinding, i played pretty much each and every day but rarely put in huge sessions that left me feeling drained the following day. this probably was a smart adjustment i made when i felt burned after a sunday of playing a zillion donakments, followed by a day when i just didn t feel capable of firing up any tables.
-i pretty much stayed away from NL200. i don t think this is particularly significant. my winrate is probably the same at 200 (maybe even higher since i value-town myself less frequently) but i filled in the time while waiting for PLO tables to get going with NL 100 and ran like shit but still profited some. if anything, i play a little more alertly at nl200 so this decision (or simple lack of courage) probably cost me some significant EV.
conclusions:
-14k hands might seem absurdly low, but it probably equates to about 40k hands of NL on a normal site when you factor in the slow play on PKR's software as well as the uber-slow nature of PLO games in general. i won t let myself get caught up in mindless volume considerations, but a month of 10k hands of PLO with 15k hands of NL would be gigantic for me.
-if i can keep crushing PLO, I see no need to move up to NL200 at all, if anything, I should consider moving up to PLO 200. the only argument for moving up to nl200 is that... ummm... i should be making more maniez?
ok that s a pretty good argument. however, my pkr roll is still pretty thin (about 8k after a cashout) and a 10 bi downer would be very annoying. if my roll there eclipses 10k then maybe i ll consider banning myself from NL100 games. until then, i ll playNL l200 when the fish beckon (and i m feeling frisky) but continue to use NL100 as my defacto filler when there aren t enough PLO games running.
-keep grinding the satellites. to say they are gold is an understatement. so fking many ppl who barely know the rules of holdem STILL somehow find their way into just about any qualifier that s offered on stars. i m in no hurry to get grinding a bunch of 100$ + donkaments vs reasonable MTT pros so i ll hopefully continue to crush these super fishy sats and low buy-in MTT's for the next little while.
december:
this will be kind of a 2-part month.
the first part will last until the 17th. most of my "real life" will be pretty busy up until then so my plan will be to continue a reasonable grind of good, preferably late-night cash games, a few tourneys and sats here and to stay healthy productive away from the tables.
during the 2nd part, all bets are off. i ll be home with family for the holidays, hanging out with a couple poker friends, and - hopefully - getting bored enough to put in some great, juicy, epic holiday sessions vs fish. the two weeks leading up the new year s eve are the best opportunity for a big score that i ve had in a long, long time. or at least that s what i m hoping for/imagining.
i imagine the 2 halves of the month playing out something like this :
part 1 - grind about 3k hands of PLO, 8k hands of NL (mainly at 100) and a few donkaments
part 2 - something like 7k hands of PLO and 10-12k hands of NL, a few bigger buy-in donkaments over the holidays (probably play both mills around xmas and new year s eve), mix in quite a bit of NL and PLO 200.
I would be extremely satisfied with 25k hands of cash and a decent volume of donkaments in december. today i ve tried taking a day off to do nothing, but i find myself instead looking forward to the month ahead, making a long-winded and somewhat hopeful post in this blog, and feeling excited in general.
hope everyone is playing, running and living well.
these are from my desktop from november, don t include about 4k hands of breakeven on my laptop :

nice graph. looks like you're off to a pretty good start with the bankroll rebuilding. gl in december!
yea nice job man, hope december is more of the same
Very nice. May December even bring more success for you sir!
jeezus christ just had what felt like the worst session in ages. miraculously i broke even over about 750 hands but i had the first head-scratching hand in NL that i can think of in a long, long time. posted it in SHNL.
keep crushing yo!
very strange day, wasn t really in a great mindset to play tonight but fired up a couple low level sit n gos and played about 45 mins of cash on the side, made a buyin at PLO, still alive in some 7$ PLO/PLHE. no idea why i played it lol.
was just donking around late tonight with a buddy playing some 12$ sit n gos and i managed to take down a 12$ 180 man for 600 smackers. highlight of the tourney was this hand vs 2nd place stack with 4 left :

played a little bit both fri and sat night, both sessions were short and ended with me up about 1.5 BI, so something like +300 overall. tomorrow will be a long day of donkaments with maybe an average of 4-6 tables of cash. something like 1.2k hands of cash and 6-10 donkaments would be nice.
1st death-session in a long time. i had almost forgotten what it felt like.
was doing fine, ho-humming my way to a couple buyins of profit and about to shut down my tables when this random guy showed up at one of my NL tables, posted-raised the first hand :

solid 1-outer there to cost me my stack. the river is actually pretty close (what is he potting that I beat?) but since he was pretty spewy it wasn t really a close decision. 6 bi downswing in about 45 mins.
just shut the tables down, a little too disgusted to continue. might fire up some donkaments in a bit.
fuck.
hah ya i suppose it could be except that i ll be playing buyins between 10 and 30$ where i would literally have to hire a button-clicking monkey in order to make losing plays.
well, ran brutally in the donkaments, played great, found creative ways to lose (AA vs K9s on bubble, twice AK vs Ax deepstack in the midstages vs spazzy 4 bet shoves, blbhalbhalbha), not much to say. pretty much did what i set out to do today in terms of volume and good solid play so can t exactly be upset at myself. back at it tomorrow.
*Best Of Luck* Hopefully putting out The Donks will lead to Greater Bankroll.....
I totally agree with your Quote, I have found getting my daily duties done. make sure I am caught up on everything and door n phone won't interupt, then I sit down and play off my bankroll. I find night time play is Best for me, although it seems harder to get 6 man table to fill, I find I do best @ SNG's more than big tournaments as to where I get ancey waiting for game to end then I usually turn into A Big Horse.........LOL.......Poker has taught me to have more pacients and to take more time in my plays so I can build from free and keep on building. Just like life, Have to take one step @ a time and keep on going. *Wishing Everyone The Best Of The Holiday Season and many more to come.* Hoping to build Nice Bankrolls for Dec. and start my New Year with Bigger, Better, Banging Play. Good Luck To All, See Ya @ The Tables Soon, *MINI*
ghosted a friend tonight and then had him ghost me for a couple hundred hands; both sessions went well (i helped him spew in a couple spots that were unusual for him, always a good thing) and i made back most of what i lost on sunday during the short session.
yay a day away
another one of those nights where i have no reason not to but i REALLY don t feel like playing, terrified of losing money... so fking weird. i ve just fired up a few donkaments but i m unsure whether or not to play cash.
meh. it s a recurring theme.
sucked it up and played for about 3 hrs, made 3 bi and i have a nice stack in a 22$ tourney on stars. long live the ambivalent grind.
bubbled final table m-fucking-e-h. still decent result on the day.
ya no shit. it s some neurotic reaction that i always get, even when i m running well. i remember i used to get really nervous even way back when i was crushing in '07... just the way i m hardwired i guess.
holy christ just had the wildest session of suckouts in forever. played an awesome, long session and just lost every allin except for 1 when i was dominating or flipping. PKR updated its software so no HH can be imported for now but wooooow it was crazy how bad i ran. shit like losing AIPF vs 57s, calling turn shoves w sets vs bare FD's, etc. amazingly (it ll be clear why it s amazing after i can post some hands) i only lost about half a buyin in prob about 1.5k hands
BUT while i grinded cash i took down the 33$ PLO nightly late tourney on stars for 750 so that day wasn t completely disappointing
props on the sesh G, have you moved back up to 200nl yet? if you haven't i think it's time unless you have a good reason not to
bang just took down a 180-man 12$ for 600 smackers while playing majora s mask.
wow sicko?
gah just played a frustrating cash session, lost a sick hand 200bbs deep with trips vs a whale, then lost 3/3 flips 100bbs+ at plo. played really well, ended up down about 250 i think but it sucks that i can t review things until HEM adapts their software to the PKR update.
ya +4.2k since nov 1st playing them. was pissed at the shitty cash sesh so fired up a cpl around 6 am last night, made back some of what i lost at cash.
full time 12$ 180-man pro in the making?
awesome gsp fight, pulled an all-nighter now gonna try to get through the day grinding mill qualifiers gogogo gadget puff-coffee-bailey's-football-winter storm-sleep avoiding mode
meh going shitty so far but about to hit final table of a 33$ PLO 6 max, 1st would get me unstuck and then some...

pretty tilting way to lose HU with a 300$ diff between 2nd and 1st.
and i guess i forgot to say BOOM ANOTHER NICE FUCKIGN SCORE.
So how long these tourneys usually take you.. assuming you final table/get HU?
maybe 5 hrs if it s not a turbo? turbos rarely go longer than 3 or 3.5 hrs with fields smaller than maybe 400 ppl...
played a pretty annoying session tonight, couldn t win a pot for a good long while at the start then lost 2 quick buyins at the end with KKs on J74sss where I CR flop and shoved then into A5ss then lost 555 on J58dd to KTdd. nothing interesting, but it kind of gave me the bug to grind hard tomorrow. hopefully HEM can finally come out with a patch and i ll be able to post some hands.
more of the same tonight.
lost KK vs KJ vs AT AI pre in a 109$ FO on stars on the bubble, would have been 3rd.
cash was horrendous, highlight was losing 99 vs 45s AI pre vs a mega whale who had stacked me the previous hand getting it in w JT vs my AQ on QQ9. it s now a mini 7 bi downswing in cash and i felt a little annoyed and tilted towards the end of this session so def gonna clamp down and make sure i m playing my A game over the next little while.
more of the same yet again tonight. dropped a couple buyins and busted out brutally from a tourney in the midstages.
i haven t felt 100% focused at the tables and won t be playing again until i get home for the holidays. the hands i ve been losing haven t exactly been terrible but they aren t near as ownage-oriented as i had been since the start of this operation. it s kind of meh stuff (getting to the river with top set in plo and calling a small bet rather than soul-read-folding, losing my flips in NL) and maybe it s unreasonable for me to expect to magically fold my way away from every cooler and i may go for incredibly thin value on every river...
i m on the fence regarding volume over christmas, it ll depend on the state of the games and the state of my poker appetite. still annoyed that i can t post any hands yet from this downswing. i m definitely considering upping the volume as a way of forgetting the short-term variance. the challenge for me when playing long sessions on lots of tables is to play with the same intensity and focus i play with when i m just 3 or 4 tabling vs late-night donks .
