Re-watched A History Of Violence and Eastern Promises while waiting for the next Cronenberg film.
It has been way too long :'(
In Bruges was surprisingly good.
Request: More pot movies
Land of the Lost was amazing when smoking pot.
I saw Cloverfield high in theaters. It was the best.

eternal sunshine one of my favs
not sure if it's been mentioned already but being john malkovich is a good one too, high or sober
get new friends. my wife loves those kind of movies, and zombies, obv.Quote:

Theres absolutely zero character development in that movie, and the fictional world they created wasnt believable/impressive enough to carry the movie. I mean, it wasnt street kings bad, but it was def a let down.

god Role Models was so funny. Is Zombieland supposed to actually be good? it looks so bad/cheesy in the trailers.
bad/cheesy is part of the humor and pretty much the gist of the genre. I liked it. Have you seen Sean of the Dead?
Zombieland was pretty awesome
I actually found Zombieland to be a huge let down. As far as joke Zombie movies go Shaun of the Dead was much more funny.
So I got some time to catch up on movies today.
Hurt Locker was amazing. In all ways.
Fantastic Mr. Fox was amazing. Voice acting was really good and the movie was just warm and enjoyable.
The Invention of Lying was high concept but not that good. Despite his amazing stand up, it kind of made me like Ricky Gervais a little less.
Saw Army of Darkness for the first time last night and man, that movie was miles behind Evil Dead 2 and the original
Two very good movies from my part of the world(Argentina) are:
1- "Nueve Reinas"
2- "El Secreto de sus Ojos"
BTW, theres a remake of "Nueve Reinas" called "Criminal" if any of you has already seen it. Id like to hear what you think of these movies. They are really good IMO.
I just watched The Hurt Locker, and was extremely disappointed. I suppose its well acted, but it just has no story. It's one of the most frustrating movies I've ever watched because the whole time I was trying to figure out what it was about.
You're wrong, it was an awesome movie. That's basically all they do. There are bombs everywhere and those are the mofos that go out and disarm them. No story needed to depict the lives of these guys. Everyday someone finds a bomb and everyday they go and disarm it.
renton shared his views with me on this movie and it makes me want to watch it now.. but because I dont trust his opinion, but because everyone else seems to disagree so I wanna see whats up.
I loved Hurt Locker but from what I understand the realism is fucking awful
i thought that this was going to be on poker movies
just saw a poker movie on cable
new with burt reynolds
noit very good
When it comes to poker movies you have two choices - Rounders or Cincinnati Kid
You have to be kidding me. One of the best cameos of all time. It was such a fun watch while drinking beers with a few buddies. My roommate bought it on DVD and I think we've watched it 5-6 times since.
In other news, I saw Shutter Island. Cinematography was great, movie was pretty good for the first 90 minutes.
LOL Shutter Island. Good for maybe the first 45 minutes.
Shutter Island I thought was alright. I thought the punchline was unraveled with good pacing and credibility and the acting and directing were top notch ldo
Downloaded and watched Cinci Kid. Not a poker movie. They were playing Stud.
Alice in Wonderland is epic bad, even when watched using StonerVision. Definitely don't recommend.
I know, sorry guys. I was really excited to go see it, but it bores you to tears (or sleep in the people in front of me's case). I really expected a lot more from Tim Burton, but what can you do. Jonny Depp was excellent but thats kind of a given.
youre a pretty big retard dranger, so Im probably gonna get high as well and pay 20$ to see it in imax anyways.
Haha agreed. Hope you have more fun with it than I did. :(
Just watched Flight of the Valkyrie last night for the first time. It's been out for a while, but DAMN is it a good movie. Probably my favorite Tom Cruise movie after Cocktail obv. ;) If you haven't seen it yet, go out and watch it.
talladega nights
shake N bake
YouTube - Talladega Nights - Prayer to Baby Jesus
I downloaded and watched "Precious" and I really enjoyed it.
Its a story about Lenny Kravitz and Mariah Carey helping an abused fatass black girl from Harlem.
It could be, but I probably just assumed it was Flight of the Valkyrie cuz of the song and all that. What disappointed you about it? I think overall it was a really good movie.
Top Gun was awesome, I haven't seen Mission Impossible since I was like 7 so I don't remember it tbh. Tropic Thunder luhlz. Cocktail was a joke obv.
Some must see movies that comes to mind...
Man From Earth
Das Boot
Boy A
Bin-Jip
I know tropic thunder wasnt a cruise movie really... and thats why I say its not the number one, but it gets the number two slot cuz he was so awesome in it and I think its the ONLY time Ive seen him not play tom cruise in a movie.
And dranger, it has nothing to do with the song, the actual codename for the mission was valkyrie.. like.. you know.. this really happened. Speaking of which, I think thats where a lot of my discontent with this movie comes from. I already thoroughly knew the story, so to me the movie was just a bunch of fluff piled on a story I already knew. I woudlnt say the movie was terrible, I just wouldnt ever watch it again or think to recommend it.
Yea, I know the op was named Valkyrie lol, I don't know why I assumed it had anything to do with the song. As you stated before, I'm a pretty big tard on occasion. ;)
Has anyone else gone to see Alice in Wonderland yet? Anyone like it?
Im going to see it tonight in glorious 3d while my brain is enhanced.
ya, youre an idiot dranger. Alice was probably the best "kids" movie Ive seen. Tim burton is the man..
Alice in Wonderland was not that good. Even in 3d!
I almost wonder if I would have liked it better in 2d. It was awesome in IMAX on that huge screen. But I remember someone saying that the movie was not filmed in 3d, but made to work in 3d post production because of avatars success. I could be wrong but I feel like I could tell the difference.. close up fast moving scenes were REALLY hard on the eyes. I think I will be avoiding "3D" movies that were not actually filmed in 3D from now on, but with that being said I still thought the movie was awesome.
The Boondock Saints 10th Anniversary Event
tonight only.
I still think it was Snoresville boost. It just wasn't interesting in the least, at least not what I was expecting. :/ I guess I expected more from it.
Elitism frowns upon youse guys and ur StonerVision
Definitely can make for a unique and entertaining experience, but not objectively.
I mean c'mon, I was baked out of my mind, went and saw Charlie's Angels II, and thought it was not terrible. Blasphemy
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
just came out on DVD, I thought it was great
That was so gay. I went to a double feature - the old Bad Lieutenant and the new one half a year ago, but it start at 11pm, and I had been up since 6 or so, and I decided to drive home after the first one because I was just way too tired.
:'(
Now the next chance I get to see it in the theater is ten years from now at a Werner Herzog special or sumthin.
Out of all the movies I've seen lately I would have to say check out Edge Of Darkness. That was a pretty sweet movie.
Just gonna put a warning out there
I love mindfuck movies and i just finished off watching Donnie Darko and its probably the worst movie ive seen in a very very long time. My god
It's David Lynch for the poor. I thought it was bad, but I didn't hate it.
You've probably seen it, but you might like Memento... obviously everything by David Lynch except Dune and the more recent ones. And just maybe Godards Week-End, and maybe Alphaville. - I don't think it's a good movie, but I like his courage. :D
About to watch Being John Malkovich, but dont have any weed on me.. and this seems like the perfect stoner movie.. Is it worth the watch without being stoned?
Speaking of David Lynch, I'm not a big fan because I tend to not like his content, but he is indeed fantastically skilled. His film, Straight Story, however, was awesome, and it was a curious deviation from his normal style
I watched The Sting again the other day.
Quality film. Bit of poker (stud) in there aswell.
Don't make them like that anymore.
Being John Malkovich is one of my favorites.
Also, I just saw Donnie Darko for the first time last week and didn't think it was that bad.
Another one I really like lately is Synecdoche, NY with Phillip Seymour Hoffman (awesome actor btw)
Watched Bad Lieutenant - wouldn't have noticed that it's a Herzog movie until about halfway through. I did not care much for his other attempts at Hollywood like Rescue Dawn and Invincible, but this one really blew me away. Absolutely worth watching. So is the original btw.
Office Space: I can't believe I've never even heard of it. It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. - And I mean Airplane! - funny.
Holy shitballs, you've never seen Office Space. o_O
Red Dawn weeeeeeeeeeee

Not a movie, but because I'm watching right now, and I think it's better than the movies:
Futurama season 5, episode 9: The Sting.
Easily my favorite episode of the entire series.
Well it's a tv show, but I just watched all 4 seasons of Prison Break.. First season is definitely pretty good imo. Second-Third season are meh.. By the Fourth, it gets kinda old having the same shit happen. Either way, it wasted some time, so whatever.
there is a TV show thread as well guys
Too bad there's no "I am an anal retentive and this is my story" - thread ;)
No Spenda's right. This is the *** OFFICIAL Movies & Movie Recommendations Thread *** and we have to respect that. Why have all these ***OFFICIAL*** threads if we are just going to post random comments? I'm thinking a strike or temp ban could be a possibility.
True. I know it's blasphemy, but I would have preferred them to cancel the Simpsons and keep Futurama on the air.
I was going to recommend some 70's Anthony Hopkins film, but to piss off jyms:
Duckman Season 3, Episode 6: A room with a Bellevue
Easily one of the best episodes in the series. Along with Noir Gang, America the Beautiful and About Face
You can watch them on youtube. Until recently it hasn't even been out on DVD. Apparently it completely bombed. It's a shame because it was brilliant.

Here it is you lazy sacks of shit. Take your TV Show discussion elsewhere.
Captain Buzzkill here to save the day as per usual.
Saw Hot Tub Time Machine last night, and it was better than I expected.
Yea I seen HTTM a couple weeks back, its pretty good imo for what it is.
One of my fav parts is when he's pounding on the guys sister and he's like, 'HOLY SHIT IM F***KIN' YOU'RE SISTER!!!!!!!!'
what was he fucking him's sister for
***SPOILER***
So the kid they went back in time with would exist again since he was the dad and apparently boned her back in the day but they never knew he was the dad.
your sure?
Pretty sure
Obviously I could be wrong since I was baked when I seen it but it sounds right lol.
So I am staring at 3 movies. The Bad Lieutenant, From Paris with love and Defendor. My run bad for picking movies when I have a choice continues with Defendor. Had some not so high but semi decent hopes for this movie. Not so much luck.
Watched Crazy Heart last night though and enjoyed it.
Yeah I was disappointed with Defendor too. I love Harrelson and the preview looked good, but the move was just ok at best.
IMDB rating system
For some reason people don't seem to wanna think that an external rating system is reliable, but it really is. Before I started using the system as a tool to pick movies, I watched a ton of garbage. But after using the system, the bad movies became few and far between. The system is, after all, pretty much a large sampling of peer-review from avid film fans
Seriously, there's a reason that some movies get high ratings like 8.0 and other movies get low ones like 6.5. I guarantee that if you did an experiment and watched fifty 8.0+ rated films then fifty 6.0-7.0 rated films you would be substantially more pleased with the former category, and it's really not even close.
There are nuances involved with how the system works, but generally, if you avoid watching all films rated below 7.5, you'll be watching so many good films that you'll begin to get sick of the quality and just wanna watch something stupid to keep from feeling like a snob or something
