Fortunately for us, that's all it is. When resources are too scarce, the feelings market turns into violent populism. If I had a dollar for every time Ana says "they shouldn't be allowed to do that...", I'd have a greater number of dollars than the number of people who died under communist regimes operating on the exact same principle

yeah
Yeah the Young Turks pretty much suck fucking ass.
The ill informed muppet just keeps on showing his ignorance.
He's issued an apology for "this comment about the beautiful city of Birmingham".
Our city isn't fucking beautiful, it's grubby and seedy.
Yeah, I never really liked TYT much, myself. But yeah, they don't go the critical thinking route pretty much ever. And that's unfortunate, because I've recently heard Cenk on several podcasts, and he seems reasonably intelligent and capable of critical thought. But like a500lbgorilla said, emotional appeal is like printing money.
I still watch TYT out of habit from my lefty days, and I rationalize that it helps me keep my thumb on the pulse of liberal america. They are mega retarded on the economy, but its hard to deny that they have an entertaining show and are having a lot of fun.
Yeah, I definitely see this, and I admire it. They were a completely independent start up, and pioneers of the "new media." While they may seem not that dissimilar to other pundits at times, you have to remember that they sort of are the bridge from that old stale media to the awesome variety of independent voices we now have on podcasts and other "new media" outlets.
Also, while they go for the emotions, they do pull cards on all sides of the aisle and that's gotta be worth something.
I can't really stomach them anymore either. Ana is pretty much #1 at being the worst at critical thinking. Cenk comes in a close second, but he has his moments. (To be fair Ana does too but very rarely.)
I do love John Mankiewicz though. Dave Rubin is good too. Michael Shure is amazing, wish he was on more. Cara Santa Maria, Desi...
Sometimes the comedian, I forget his name, makes really incisive points. Usually he's just atrociously annoying.
They are the reason I got more interested in politics and current events though, so credit where credit is due. I've been watching since 2008. :P
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuvK-od647c
Fuck nature
Me too.
I like watching them.
I do not only watch stuff I agree with though. I do like the fact that Cenk's mission in life seems to be to get the money out of politics. And mainly because of this, I support him. I also love how they troll Fox News all the time. I used to watch fox live though, back in like '08, but at some point it hit me like "WTF IS THIS SHIT" and I stopped. Nowadays, I only get news through the internet.
I wonder, if you guys do not watch TYT and can agree that mainstream media sucks in their coverage of what is going on in the world, where do you get your news (politics, current events, etc) from?
Also, fun:

The get the money out of politics thing is so alluring but he wants it to be replaced by public financing of elections which would be orders of magnitude worse than the way things currently are. It's a classic progressivism tendency to be perfectly on point with what the problems are (in this case, crony capitalism) but to suggest solutions that would exacerbate those problems or create entirely new and worse problems.
I'll make a couple points:
(1) There is no evidence that money in politics breeds success. We don't yet know if candidates who get lots of money become more electable or if the electable candidates are the ones who get more money. We have good reason to assume it's the latter instead of the former
(2) The rational voter isn't real. Voters overwhelmingly support authoritarianism. The last thing we want is an electoral system where morals beat out capital. Morals have done nothing to improve prosperity, yet capital has done immeasurable good for prosperity.
(3) Public finance would likely be the nail in the coffin for western civilization. This is because it would entirely neuter individuals' ability to affect things and instead would put all power into factions and institutions. The defining ethos of the US Constitution, as well as the defining ethos of economic policy that turned a shitty world into a highly prosperous one, is the individual to not have to kowtow to factions and institutions.
History is a good teacher: when things are controversial, it is not the masses who are right, but the few individuals. If it wasn't for an organizing principle that allowed individuals to have a big say in things when the merits can prove them right or wrong, we'd all still be poor and working the soil.
Look at it this way: who should have a say about things at the Large Hadron Collider: physicists working at the LHC or voters? Obviously the answer is the former, and if it was the latter, you could imagine how unfathomably dysfunctional things would be. Well, politics and policy work the same way. One of the last things we want is the enactment of the voters' will on policy since it is no different than if the LHC was run by voters' will.
Also, by far the best way to empower the common man is to reduce the power that government has. Public finance is just the opposite, as Renton pointed out. Public finance would make the government unstoppable
As for where to get the news, it's really fucking hard. Every organization leaves much to be desired
But do you wanna know why that is? Because the people who read the news (voters) have shitty, biased, moronic opinions and only want to read/watch things that support their version of shitty, biased, moronism. It's a great microcosm for why democracy sucks.
BTW that doesn't mean dictatorships are the answer. Capitalism is the answer. In full-on capitalism, those very same people can read their shitty, biased, moronism all they want without also having the power to impose their shitty, biased, moronism upon everybody else by law
What do we think of this?

Example:
http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/r...r77/Frauto.png
Surely wuf and Renton will explain that this is capitalism working effectively and that average car prices in the local area should drop as these guys drop their prices to make up for the poor image.
It is in the interests of Google that misleading or false ads be taken down. I don't think the police needs to get involved in that. Either google polices the search outputs (their discretion of course) or the auto place asks to have his listing removed from google.
It is in the interests of Yelp that false negative (and positive) reviews be culled, otherwise their service is no longer as useful to their customers. Either Yelp does this (again, their discretion) or the auto place asks to have his listing removed from Yelp.
Really don't see why a state is necessary in this, and I'm not sure what it has to do with capitalism. I'm not even sure if any laws (as they currently exist) are being broken.
I was just being facetious.
more like FECEtious, chump
No, I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be a bunch of upper case letters there.
Sometimes interesting things pop up on facebook. Then I think, "hmm, this is interesting, maybe I should participate in the discussion trailing said interesting item." Then I am filled with the deepest feeling of regret imaginable.
I'm not even sure why I open facebook anymore. I'm pretty sure it be adding positive value to my life.
I like the hive mind sometimes. Take that, F&R auto!
If they actually had to close because of this, that would make me so happy. It may seem like the punishment doesn't fit the crime, but maybe it does... How big of a dick do you have to be to harass a pizza delivery driver who has obviously done nothing wrong. To even call him back instead of admitting your mistake and just taking your loss is shitty, but then to berate him on top of that. Fuck those people.
Breaking news from the Associated Press: Dancing genitals clip not progressive enough for some Swedes

The video is below for context and improved "time to truth."

Some is exactly the number of Swedes I don't give a fuck about.
Facebook is still nice to keep a general overview of what people are doing but I've had to block a few people to keep my sanity. This guy who went feminist when he married a feminist wife. This girl who keeps using it as a blog and is not very bright. A few 20-something girls who kept spamming "BFF forever" type posts and inspiration quotes. But there's a few people I still keep in contact with through facebook that I otherwise wouldn't, and that's a big enough advantage to keep it around for me.
British TV presenters are the best. The lovely Cat Deeley...
wait is that not a joke?
that's amazing
It was only after I watched it three or four times that I looked to see who produced the programme it came from...
Peter Kay.
Sorry to ruin the briliance of it, but it's a joke.
Cat deeley is so hot, shame about the inverted nipple though.

Anyone here hate getting blowjobs? Just curious.
Depends who off.
No. Wtf! Admittedly I expect it to be followed by a fuck, but a bj is good foreplay.
A blowjob should be like a prayer, nothing less. Srsly, a proper blowjob should be religious worship, straight-up fundamentalist, like you'd kill for that shit (or at least picket a funeral).
I have important thoughts about important things.
Good BJ is better than the best intercourse. Mediocre tug is better than a mediocre BJ. This is all stated in the non-transitive property of sex acts in page 137 of your text.
That's not strictly true, its more by taking her for granted and/or not making her feel sexy, which is what most men do once they've been married for a while.
Well acting like a bitch would make her feel less sexy.
Funny quote from a guy I used to work for:
"The worst piece of pussy I ever got was still better than jerking off."
I think I agree in a vacuum, but not when you take $4/gallon gas into consideration.
I don't know if I agree with that. It's the kinda comment I'd throw out there and maybe mean it when I say it, but I'm sure there's times where sex has been disappointing and unsatisfying, where as I don't think I've ever let myself down in that way.
Did anyone watch their local MLB team last year without cable? I'm looking into using the MLB app and either Hola or another service to watch local games live. I know I can watch them after the broadcast or watch out of market teams but I need to figure out how I can watch teh local team without it being a fuzzy, sketchy free TV/sports website.
Dude from my hometown got popped for making moonshine in 2015:
http://www.yadkinripple.com/news/blo...s-of-moonshine
Welcome to the south.
Yeah I mean we gotta shut this moonshine gravy train down. What a thriving fucking black market that needs to be stopped.
Is moonshine really a big deal? My grandfather made high proof spirits without a license which I guess meets the definition of moonshine, my father did it, my father's 70 year old neighbor and great grandmother does it. I never much liked drinking it, but it's fun making it.
The county in question was dry until just a few years ago which is probably worth noting.
(For people who don't know, a dry county means that all alcohol sales are prohibited.)

interesting...
Freeeeeeedom.
I only found out yesterday that some anime is illegal over here. Some dude gotconvicted for having indecent images on his computer due to the apparent age of the depicted girl in his cartoon.
Holy duck, what's wrong with us?
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...s-9898541.html
Quote:
Three banned acts were deemed life threatening: strangulation, facesitting and fisting.
Other acts banned included spanking beyond a gentle level, full bondage and restraint (in conjunction with a gag and all four limbs restrained) and - bizarrely - female ejaculation.
Abusive language during sex is now also banned, alongside depictions of non-consensual sex.
TIL my taste in porn is very vanilla
He should've got a better lawyer. I'm not into this anime shit, but I've seen some. How the fuck am I supposed to determine the age of an unrealistic computerised image? If I draw a crude drawing of an eight year old girl, and then masturbate while looking at it, can I go to jail? What if I draw exactly the same picture and say she's 18?
Here's the details, should you care. I'm sure you'll find a better source with more info

According to UK law, one of these images is illegal, the other isn't...

OMG I'M A PEEDO
Can't open either.
fixed
It basically means I can't record a video of me fucking my girlfriend while calling her a dirty whore and then put it in the internet. I'm sure she'll be ok with that, but I feel my rights have been infringed.
High time for the UK to get rid of Cameron. Theres a reason europe is voting more and more nationalist parties, the left-wing nutters due to their worldview of everything needing to be solved by dialogue that doesnt offend anyone have no answer to the many actual problems that are relevant today. So they come with total bs freedom of speech oppression and spying policies because they cant provide any real answers. Its a delight to watch Belgian politics now that center-right has taken over. The socialsts keep lashing out in their known ways but theyve been made irrelevant and have nothing to say anymore. They still hold many positions as well being overrepresented in the media but the times are changing.
Just yesterday a socialist commented on the governments plan to take away the nationality of extremists (like duh obv) that it was ¨what the nazis did¨. He faced major backlash and was forced to apologize. Yunmy. And our right wing minister said she was going to change the laws to make child care prioritize people who actually work because theyre the ones paying for the service. Major outcry from the socialists, they want all the benefits to go to the unemployed and poor (who sit at home and dont even need it!). And our minister stood her ground. Needless to say that the general public loves thisl. Fucking finally we have a competent government we can trust on doing the right thing.
Unfortunately Cameron is going nowhere. His only serious challenger is even more unelectable than Cameron. Not that it matters. Our "democracy" is a joke, just like the majority of nations.
Cameron is such a tool. Hes feeling UKIP breathe down his neck though and yesterday he announced his plans to bring back immigration from hundreds of thousands to tens of thousands. Maybe hollow words but its something. I get that theres little alternative which is sad. Give it time.
Hollande has to go though. If Cameron is a tool, Hollande is the tool that all tools bow down to. I mean just look at the guy, who would want this to represent them?? La suicide francais. Getting the extreme right voted in isnt ideal (prefer a center-right realistic party) but at this point, Marine is the superior option between the two.
Oh and i havent seen anyone discuss Greece yet but for europe this is getting quite interesting. Pretty much everyone except Merkel (Germany benefits majorly from the EU because they have the superior economy) wants to curb EUs power (and spending). Tsipras actually looks to be a very intelligent guy and hes going to be launching bombshells at the EU, popcorn time.
Just FYI Camerson is from the "centre-right".
What is a centray (spelled centre)? Is that like center?
I'm interested in what's going on in Greece. I don't think this guy will last long though, he'll get nudged out one way or another. He's talking about reversing privatisation... that will displease the capitalists who are profiting from the mess Greece is in. Europe has a vested interest in ensuring this guy fails, because if he succeeds in restoring Greece's economy, then that tells Europe and all its people that austerity isn't the only way to recover. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a plane crash.
He'll probably just bankrupt the country for real, which would probably be an improvement.
There's no way Greece can fail because my cousin is their government spokesperson and deputy minister to the prime minister, SOOOOO uh clearly they'll be fine, what with my genes in such a high position of power! lol
in all seriousness, I think this is an incredible paradigm shift either way, Greece was seriously suffering and radical change was needed, I think. But I had similar thoughts to you Ong... We shall see.
(if that plane crash happens and my cousin is onboard i'm blaming you personally, you and your weird prophetic forum powers)
Btw this is awesome:

Quote:
GREECE'S new prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, made history within hours of his victory by informing the Archbishop of Athens, very politely, that clerical services would not be required for his swearing-in ceremony. An avowed atheist who has nonetheless made a point of dealing courteously with senior clergy, Mr Tsipras lost no time in making known that his oath of office would be a secular procedure. It was also explained that when the whole cabinet was sworn in, a more junior cleric (but not the archbishop) would be invited to assist those who wished to take a religious oath.
