It's a pitty because Sean Penn was quite entertaining. A bit of a mindfuck even the way he acted so DeNiro-like.
Yay, Sean Penn always puts his back into it. I don't think I've ever seen him not give his best.
Gangster Squad looks fantastic: Emma Stone, Nick Nolte, Sean Penn! What could possibly go wrong?
Mainly Josh Brolin and the writers went wrong. But indeed on paper it had potential.

I guess it wasn't awful, but what really bothers me is that kind of used-to-be-butch-but-has-settled-down-with-wife-and-kid-and-the-neighbors-like-him-because-he's-just-a-great-dude - character that they shoehorn into every single B-production lately. I guess they want everybody to be able to identify, but in the end nobody can identify with him because nobody that bland exists in the real world. And on top of that they forget that in this particular movie that-guy-that-makes-faceless-dude-from-hellraiser-look-like-a-three-dimensional-character is supposed to shoot his own dumb son right in his stupid face according to the script, and when they get to it, it makes sense to absolutely noone, least of all the actor which was painfully obvious.Quote:

Considerably more enjoyable than hangover 2, not as good as the original hangover.
Really enjoyed Man of Steel today, great sound track too. Bit of a glut of action which wasn't always necessary but the effects were really well done and enjoyed the story even though I really didn't know anything about Superman before I watched it

The secret life of Walter mitty is a great little movie, inspiring in a weird kinda way, kinda odd but rather enjoyable.
I think the books are supposed to be good. It's a trilogy I think. The movie will be child friendly though which will prob spoil it a bit.

I would agree with all of this. Well, except, I'm pretty sure that I also like it, it's not definitive for me yet. I went with friends who were all instantly "Oh my god I loved it." And that made me even more cynical about it. It's impressive film-making for lots of reasons, but I feel like I need to see it again, maybe twice, before I can decide whether or not I think it's a great movie. I watched it again yesterday. Still really enjoyed it. It's done incredibly well. It's almost like a modern period drama in terms of how it sets a scene and transforms you to a world that doesn't exist any more. Mad max was sop awesome. The feminism had me chuckle (didn't really bother me), but damn, that action! Whole movie was basically one sick car ride.

I like Neil Blomkamp a lot. He's a great writer, he has a great artistic vision, but I think he's a mediocre director. What I'm waiting for is a movie with him as writer/producer and someone who can work with actors.
KUNG FURY was a pleasant surprise. These kickstarter movies are going places. Iron Sky was worth watching and this one is truly unique.

I enjoyed Jupiter Ascending starring Mila Kunis. Has two brothers that have a heavy case of sibling rivalry. And the characters are pretty wealthy, some owning planets. In one scene Mila Kunis is surrounded by hives of flying bees that refuse to sting her.Quote:

After seeing latest rambo movie u can't see any action movie giving a similar level if satisfaction.
So I recently thought up a mechanic, and I'm curious if theres a good movie or show that does it well.
I guess you could describe it as an easter egg for people that know what they're talking about. For example, the movie Rocky I. There he eats lots of raw eggs; I think it'd be neat if the director subtly put in a scene or two of Rocky getting sick because of the eggs...and maybe even alluding to this being the reason he lost the fight. I want the subtlety though, keep all the fanfare, keep the epic montage music and the confidence we have in the character, but also show him doing something wrong and paying for it in some way...even though he and the narrator have no idea the two are related.
Other examples: In "My Cousin Vinny", include a copy of the Alabama Criminal Code somewhere hard to spot, that says something like "if the Prosecutor does x, case dismissed". But the audience doesnt see it, Vinny doesn't see it, and while he wins anyway...the whole thing coulda been different.
I wanna see them being imperfect, see them punished for it, but not have it be a centerpoint of the story and not have the character even be aware of his own imperfection.

I saw Jurrassic World twice.
First time: OmG amazing movie, best of the year, even better than Mad max, wtf how you make movies this damn good, I think my eyeballs exploded.
Second Time: Meh.
I think I feel this way because the story itself is meh, so once the action parts are known...it is nowhere near as thrilling/suspensful whatever.
But still, everyone should see it the first time.

Its not as bad as it seems. And at minimum, it's a solid monster movie.
Jurassic World is fucking awful. It's a decent attempt at a "bad" monster movie, but it didn't seem like that's what they were trying to make. As an attempt to make a good movie it's terrible. It's a never-ending sequence of every character making the worst possible decision for no real reason whatsoever.

Yeah, Inside Out was fantastic. Great movie to take your kids to and have a conversation about emotions. Brought the feels big time. Hell, even the short at the beginning had me all dusty. Of course, I'm a just a highly sensitive person when it comes to all sorts of emotional things. I highly recommend the movie.
Just saw Love and Mercy. Story about Brian Wilson (lead man and brain behind the beach boys) and his struggle with mental illness. It was brilliant with fine acting and beach boys music. What else could you want?
