playing tptk and knowing when to fold or check

wow on a fuckin roll up 400 bucks and bam, today i lose 50..

I've been getting beat on my AK/AQ and other hands of this sort because I've been trying to drag to much money out of people and they end up hitting...

Should I be betting the pot when I hit? I hate doing that because a lot of the times it just takes it down, but I'm guessing that may be the best strategy..

Also, when do you know to fold your Q's K's A's..

I've just been beaten by two tiny pocket pair sets, and yes i raised preflop a dollar. perhaps i should raise 1.50, but a lot of the time no one calls that..

People need to know what stakes you are playing for this to make sense.

if you're playing correctly preflop with your AK, AQ holdings then theres nothing wrong with taking down the pot on the flop when all you hit is top pair. if you're raising 4bb preflop, get 2 callers, hit, bet the pot and take down a 12bb pot thats a good/great result with AQ/AK when you've got such a vulnerable hand.

Yes bet the pot, in NL those hands just make you feel better about buying the pot. Remember in NL not to worry about those one pair/2 pair hands too much because in NL youre really just waiting to hit a monster and then take someones ass with it. Anything less than a set should usually be played for a small pot.

You really shouldnt raise thoes hands enough to drive off pocket pairs.

If you have a $25 stack, calling a $2.50 bet is often profitable with a small pocket pair.

so you need to raise way to much to get rid of the pocket pairs that are playing correctly, and even more for thoes who are not.

I will start grabbing those top pair hands in one round...

however if i get a caller... if the card looks like a blank, should i bet the pot again? Obviously if you get a caller there you're up a gainst a retard or someone who hit a set..

i wouldnt bet the pot on the flop or on the turn, i like to bet about 2/3 the pot with a top pair hand. It should be enough to take down the pot when someone has nothing, enough to entice a raise when someone is better, and cheap enough to let the bad players chase. 1/2 to 2/3 on the turn if you were called and you should know where you are for the river. If you bet the pot then the pot you are playing much too large for just TPTK if the pots 4 dollars preflop, then you bet 4 on the flop, thats a 12 dollar bet on the turn. Much rather bet 3 on the flop, 7 on the turn, and a value bet on the river or a check behind.

remember even though you have a vulnerable hand you still probably have the best hand, dont let those people that made a mistake preflop by playing their suited 2 gappers that caught an OESD or a flush draw off the hook. They owe you money if you bet the pot its far too easy for them to make the right decision and fold. You get paid when they make mistakes, give them a good price to chase just make sure its the wrong price.

sounds like a strong strategy.. I will try this out

The number of callers preflop should also be a factor.

Say you raise $1 pf and get 4 callers. You hit your TPTK on the flop. You have a $5.25 pot and decide to bet 2/3 of the pot ($3.50). 1st opponent (big fish) calls with poor odds. There is now $12.25 in the pot with 3 opponents still to make a decision.

$3.50 to call with a OESD or flush draw is now starting to look like pretty good odds, and with every caller the odds get better.

So you end up in a 3 or 4 way pot with a pair. Don't fancy your chances much.

A pot size bet may have discouraged the fish from making that 1st poor call.

a pot sized bet may have discouraged the first guy from making the call. He makes the right decision to fold, you dont make money when they make the right decisions, you make money when they make the wrong ones. So what if your hand doesnt hold up with 3 or 4 people seeing the river, as long as you played it correctly gave bad odds and didnt pay off the few times you are beaten then you are playing correctly and you'll make even more when you do hold up.
