Is it just me or?

Is it just me or are B&M games alot more profitable then online games. When I go to a live game at the casinos here in oklahoma I can conistently make abour $150-200 in 4-5 hours of play at the 4-8. However, online I usually only bring in around 100 in the same time even though I play more hands. I think the casinos around here might have a plethora of fish though. Routinley at the casino the table has 5-7 callers everytime. While online it is more like 3-5 callers per hand. What are some of your experiences.

Too bad B&M is not an option for me. I am not yet 21 :x

Anyone care to make an introductory guide to B&M play? It seems like there have been a lot of posts recently about people sharing their experiences about their first visits to a casino/cardroom. I think a lot of the questions/concerns could be answered with a brief guide of what to expect.

Hmmm...that's a good idea. I play a fair amount of B&M (maybe 20-25 hours a week both in and out of Vegas). Maybe I'll take a shot at this and we can make it a cool community thing...

I could help you if you'd like or we could both come up with something and then compare notes. I've been thinking about doing it for awhile, just havent gotten around to it yet.

Just as it does online or at home, the number of limpers in a B&M game depends greatly on the limits. In a 2/4 game at my local casino we consistantly see 5-7 limpers per hand. 3/6 is about 4-6 but more or less the same, with slightly (and I mean VERY slightly) smarter play after the flop.

I find in 2/4 that people will ride 88 until the river with tons of overcards out there trying to make something out of it. Or they will play connected or suited anything from any position. One time a guy sitting next to my girlfriend was about to fold after the river, showed her his hand and said "It's a shame to have to fold pretty cards like these." He was holding 36s with absolutely nothing going for him.

In 3/6 I see a little bit more PFR, but the quality of play isnt really that much better. It is a little bit, but nothing to get excited about. It seems like there are more hands that end before it comes to a showdown, especially if there's someone at the table with a big enough bankroll to start bullying people around. Even then, those tactics only work for those people about 1 out of every 7 times they try them...the rest of the time people bet right into them forever and they make a killing.

I would have to say that B&M are not more profitable than online poker (though I like playing B&M ALOT more than online).

In B&M, you can only play one table of poker at a time (obviously), whereas online if you multitable, you can make a killing (providing you are good at multitabling).
Another thing also is that in B&M, it is the norm to tip the dealer, and after a full 8-10 hour night at the casino you end up wasting quite a bit of money on the dealer.

Hmm i know what you mean.

In my local casino, there are two poker tables. Both are limit, one is 4/8, and other is 10/20.
The level of play at the 4/8 table, is incredibly loose. Half the table is ALWAYS going to see the flop, and there postflop decisions are not so inteliigent (e.g. staying in all the way to the river with pocket 5s, hoping to hit that set).
The 10/20 table is much much better. Most people there know what they are doing, so it is harder to make as much money there.

I dont look at my dealer tips as a waste. Dealers do very repetitive work for many, many hours and sometimes deal with assholes who have been losing too long and somehow think it's the dealer's fault. I want a good dealer when I'm at a table. By a good dealer, I dont mean that I have some kind of superstition about a certain dealer giving me good cards, I mean someone who doesnt make you feel like he has better things to do than deal you cards. Dealers like that can bring down the mood of the whole table.

It's a service industry. Those types of jobs let people make great money on tips, and it also separates the good ones from the bad ones.

I shouldnt have used the word waste in describing tipping the dealers, I was only trying to show one of the reasons as to why B&M isnt as profitable as online.
I dont mind tipping the dealers at all, as long as they are good dealers (man some can be verrrrry slow).

I'd like to see this B&M strategy guide as well. Please.

I know what you mean Mojo...some can be slow and some can misdeal 3 times in one sitting.

One night this new dealer sat down that had never dealt to me before. She starts dealing and the first card she gives me turns over because she's trying to be cute by flicking them up in the air. Now, im sitting there with a 4c showing and she says "Oh, sorry" and deals me my second card, seemingly expecting me to play them. I just sat there staring at her until she finally sighed then picked up all the cards and dealt again.
